Rona’s voice carried through the house as she screamed insults and challenges to her dad.

You can’t make me! I’m a grown woman! I’ll do what I want!”

Ben’s voice rumbled.

More deep rumbles.

Daddy! What are you doing! Dad... ”

The sound of leather meeting flesh sounded through the house, causing April to gasp and everyone to exchange stunned glances.

The sounds of the whipping continued. Delores never moved from her seat, her face hidden in her hands.

Bout time,” Cameron said.

Oh, yeah,” Caleb agreed.

Whack... whack... whack... whack... whack.

OOOhhhh, Daddy! Pleeeaassee... I’ll change my dress! Please!”

Whack... whack... whack... whack... whack.

I can’t believe he’s doing this,” April whispered.

The belt continued to snap.

Man,” Cameron said. “He’s giving her a good one.”

That’s one way to start the New Year,” Caleb said.

After what seemed like an eternity the whipping stopped. Within a couple of minutes Ben Jamison came back down the stairs, his belt buckled neatly around his waist. Shoshana looked at the heavy leather and shuddered. She’d never noticed that he wore such a scary-looking belt before.

Caleb cleared his throat, breaking the awkward silence, and glanced at the clock.

Do you think... should I go check on her?” April asked.

“
If you want,” her dad said.

April disappeared up the steps as Ben walked over to pat his wife’s back. “Okay... everyone will be here soon. We’d better finish getting ready.”

What do you need me to do?” Cameron asked.

Shoshana helped Delores place the finger foods on the table feeling more at home than she ever had at her in laws. Her mother-in-law seemed softer somehow, more approachable, and she was infinitely nicer to Shoshana and Caleb. Her attitude with her husband had changed as well. Shoshana’s stopped and stared at her mother-in-law as she hugged her father-in-law, leaning her head against his chest in what seemed like submission. It was almost as if
she’d
been spanked.

When Cameron’s friends arrived, Shoshana made a special effort to talk to them, her pregnancy giving her the perfect subject to break the ice. After only a few minutes she found herself relaxing around them for the first time, and smiled up at Cameron when he draped an arm across her shoulders and kissed her on the cheek.

She noticed that April returned to the party to find Caleb, followed by Rona a few minutes later. Clad in modest but lovely attire, she made her way straight to her father’s side to give him a hug. When she whispered something into his ear he smiled down at her and kissed her cheek.

The party was well underway when Aunt Florence arrived, going straight over to where Shoshana and April sat with Delores enjoying their food.

As usual she went on and on with her feminist jargon. Shoshana forced herself to ignore her so that she wouldn’t run off at the mouth and cause Cameron to be upset with her.

“

Shoshana sighed and exchanged glances with April who rolled her eyes.

... have to train them to be sensitive to your feelings; otherwise, they’ll never realize... ”

Florence, have you ever been married?” Delores suddenly interrupted, causing both Shoshana and April to snap to attention.

Florence frowned at her sister since it was common knowledge she had never married. “What are you trying to say, Delores?”

Delores looked at her husband who stood halfway across the room and blushed when he winked at her. Her eyes moved back to her sister.
