Thanks, April,” she said as she climbed out of the car. Her hands shook as she climbed the stairs to the workout area. She’d never been inside a gym before and she felt horribly out of place with all the people walking around in spandex. Her eyes frantically sought Cameron in hopes he would be ready to leave soon.

She found him on the third floor leaning against a piece of gym equipment and smiling down at several scantily clad girls. One of them moved to the side and she saw that Stacy was among the admirers. He winked at her and smiled his dimpled smile. Shoshana’s heart turned over in her chest and she spun about to leave, not even thinking of where she’d go.

Tears hindered her vision, but she could tell that a bus at the nearby bus stop said “Rose” on it. Since she knew this road to be near their apartment, she quickly boarded, handing the driver a dollar from her purse as she blinked back tears. She’d just call Cameron on his cell phone and tell him she would grab a snack at home.

The bus ride seemed to take an awful long while. She thought the gym wasn’t far from their apartment, but maybe the bus took a longer route to pick up more passengers. Trying to relax, she sat back in her seat. She’d never been on a bus before. Some of the other passengers looked a bit unsavory. Already she regretted her impulsiveness.

Finally the bus stopped and she got off with a thankful sigh. She looked up and down the street. Nothing looked familiar. Maybe she was on the wrong end of Rose Street. She started to walk, praying all the while. It was starting to get a bit dark. Cameron would not be happy with her if she didn’t call him soon.

Shoshana walked for what seemed like forever before she saw the street sign and froze. Rose... mont! She was on the wrong street and she had no idea how to get to their apartment. Fighting the urge to wring her hands, she walked back to the bus stop in hopes of catching a bus where she needed to go. After what seemed like forever another bus stopped.

Excuse me, Sir,” she said to the driver, “I need to get to Rose Street or Vine Street. Does this bus go that way?”

The driver frowned. “This bus goes to Leestown Road, Ma’am, but you could probably catch a bus from there on down to Main and walk to Vine from there.”

Okay,” Shoshana said, fighting tears as she found a seat near the front. Several even more unsavory characters shared the bus with her. An older man gave her a toothless smile that made her skin crawl.

Again the bus seemed to take forever to reach their destination. It was getting dark. She really needed to call Cameron.

Excuse me, Sir,” she said to a long haired teenager who had a cell phone on his belt clip. “May I borrow your phone?”

He looked at his watch. “The minutes aren’t free yet,” he told her.

I... I’ll pay you for the minutes. Please... ”

With a sigh he handed her the phone. She dialed Cameron’s cell number and got his voice mail, explaining as well as she could that she’d made a mistake and was now on a bus headed toward Leestown Road. She also left a message on the answering machine at home just in case he went there to look for her. She’d never done anything this stupid in her life. Caleb would skin her alive when he heard about it.

Once she reached the Leestown Road bus stop she again had to wait for quite some time for another bus to come by. It was very dark out now and Shoshana could do little more than cry and pray while she waited. Finally the bus came and she boarded, relieved to see that it said Main Street.

Finally, a full two and a half hours after she boarded the first bus, she got off on Main Street and set a brisk pace toward Vine. Her stomach churned as she worried what Cameron would say. She hoped he wouldn’t tell Caleb on her.

She was fully winded when she reached the door to their apartment building. She pushed the button to the elevator and waited. When the door opened, however, Cameron stood inside looking pale and more than a little upset. Color rushed into his face when he saw her. He grasped her none too gently by the arms and shook her.

Where have you been?” he spat through clenched teeth. “I’ve been worried to
death
about you! You were supposed to come to the gym. April said she dropped you off there.”

You didn’t get my message?” she asked, her teeth chattering with nerves.

Yes, just now! After looking for you for two hours! April dropped you off at the gym. Why would you go anywhere else?” He was nearly shouting as he led her back into the elevator and punched button number fifteen.

I’m sorry! I... I got lost. I got on a bus and... ”

Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to ride a bus in this city this time of night?”

She did now, but she didn’t think it was the best time tell him that since he was propelling her toward the apartment with an uncompromising hand.

Cameron, please don’t be mad. I’m sorry. I made a mistake. Please don’t tell Caleb.”

Caleb’s not the one you should be worrying about,” he said through clenched teeth. “Why did you do it?”

I... I... ”

Why did you get on a bus when you knew you weren’t supposed to? Why did you leave the gym?”

I just... did. I wanted to go home... ”

Why didn’t you ask me to take you home?”

I just... wanted to ride the bus.”

That is not a good enough reason,” he told her.

Her heart leapt into her chest as he unbuckled his belt and pulled it from his pants. “Go to your room,” he ordered.

Cameron,” she whispered, her eyes on the belt. She was terrified of a belt. Her dad only used one for the very worst punishments. “D... don’t. P... please... ”

Go. To. Your. Room.”

With a cry she did as she was told. He was right behind her. “Bend over the bed,” he ordered.

Cameron!” she squealed. “Don’t do this! Please!”

He drew back his arm and brought the belt down hard across the front of her thighs, jerking a scream from her lips. “Bend over the bed now!”

Shoshana leaned over the bed and grabbed a pillow, already sobbing with fear and pain. He wasted no time in bringing the leather down again across her bottom. She squeaked in agony. Almost before she could catch her breath, the leather wrapped around her thighs, and then her lower buttocks with a snap. Her mouth opened in a silent scream as she lost her breath. She’d never been spanked so hard in her life.

His fast strokes continued to sear her backside. Her skirt rode up to show her pink cotton panties as she writhed and wiggled but she couldn’t care, aware only of her need to end the agony. Her bottom and thighs were on fire and she could barely breath.

She couldn’t stand it. She rolled over onto her back, her eyes pleading with him to stop while she cried uncontrollably. He hesitated only a moment before he stroked the front of her thighs. Again she screamed. She’d never been in so much pain.

Turn back over, Shoshana,” he ordered as he spanked her thighs again. “You’re making things worse for yourself.”

Please,” she begged, her hands shielding the front of her thighs. “Please!”

Turn back over!” he ordered.

She rolled onto her stomach with a sob, the front of her thighs burning as well as the back. “You’re killing me!” Her words ended on a scream as he resumed his spanking of her hind parts. “Pleeaase stop! I can’t stand it!”

Finally she was spent and could do no more than gasp and whimper until he deemed her thoroughly spanked. She’d never been so sorry for anything in her life. If only she could take it back. It was the most foolish thing she’d ever done and she knew she’d never do anything like it again as long as she lived.

She sobbed in relief when the spanking was over, her thighs and buttocks throbbing and burning as never before. She watched from the bed as he buckled his belt back around his waist.

He laid his hand gently on her back and with a whimper she flew into his arms where he held her while she cried and sniffed and hiccoughed.

I... I’m s... sorry,” she hiccoughed. “I... ”

Shhh. It’s over,” he told her softly.

It’s just that I don’t fit in and I realized that. I’m not the kind of person you usually... like... and I’m so stupid because I fell in love with you. Stacy was there with you and she looked like she belonged there and so I just went out and got on a bus. I wasn’t thinking... I just wanted to get away.” Vaguely Shoshana realized she was making very little sense but it felt so good to just lay in his arms and confess everything.

He kissed her. Shoshana didn’t allow herself to think, only feel. Her arms crept around his neck and he laid her back on the bed to kiss her again. His hands were everywhere. A helpless sound came from her throat. She loved him so much.

As suddenly as it began he jerked himself back and sat on the side of the bed, chest heaving and his head in his hands.

Cameron?” she whispered.

He put a hand back to rub her arm. “Shana... ” He was silent for several more seconds before he swallowed hard and turned his body back to face her. “Baby, listen to me. You do fit into my life. No, you’re not like the other girls I’ve dated, but I never loved any of them. I do love you. But Caleb trusted me and I can’t... ” He stood suddenly and put out a hand for her. “Let’s go into the living room, okay?”

Tentatively she put her hand in his and rose from the bed. Her whole hind end still burned, but she allowed him to lead her down the hallway and into the living room. She gasped when her sore bottom hit the sofa.

The sides of his mouth quirked. “You better
never
do anything like that again. Do you hear me? When we’re married, I swear I’ll wear you out if you even look at a bus.”

Her mouth went dry. “
Married
?”

Yes. I want to marry you. I don’t really know how to go about asking you. I think I’m supposed to talk to Caleb first.”

You’d probably need to talk to my dad,” Shoshana told him, still in shock.

If I did and he was fine with it, would you be willing to marry me?”

Yes!” she said, eyes filling with tears. “Yes, yes, yes.”

CHAPTER 4

Oh, my goodness!” Shoshana’s heart sank as she peered out the tiny window of the church. So much for a small, intimate wedding. She’d never seen so many Mercedes in one place in her whole life.

April came up behind her and laid a hand on her arm. “I’m sorry, Shana. I don’t think Cameron realized they would actually come this far when he sent them their invitations.”

Shoshana sighed. “It’s okay. He has a right to have his family here, too.”

Sympathy filled April’s eyes. “They’re not so bad. Really. They just take a little bit of getting used to.”

Shoshana looked into April’s big blue eyes that reminded her so much of Cameron’s. She looked beautiful today. Her hair was a lighter blond than Cam’s and had grown to her shoulders. The pink gown Shoshana had chosen for her bridesmaids made her look like an angel. April had made a lot of changes as of late. She hoped Caleb noticed and appreciated them. “I’m so glad you’re going to be my sister,” Shoshana told her.

April’s eyes filled with tears. “Me too. I just hope I end up marrying Caleb and we can be sisters in that way too.”

Shoshana’s heart went out to her and she pulled her into a hug. “I will pray for God’s will in your life. You won’t be happy any other way.”

April nodded and swiped at her eyes. “Now look what you’ve done to my makeup.”

Shoshana smiled and went back to peering out the window with her stomach churning. She’d never met most of Cameron’s family, and those she had did not seem to like her. They were just so different than her family.

Shoshana’s older sister bustled into the room, also dressed in her pink gown with a cloth diaper slung over her shoulder. Shoshana removed it with a smirk.

Just you wait, Shana. Pretty soon you’ll have spit rags on your shoulder, too, and snot on your sleeve and chocolate hand prints on your skirt and Lord knows what else... ”

I know, I know,” Shoshana giggled. “But hopefully I won’t wear a spit rag down the aisle at someone’s wedding.”

Susannah wrinkled her nose. “That could have been embarrassing.” She moved to adjust Shoshana’s veil. “You look beautiful, but you ought to see your groom. He is absolutely
gorgeous
.” She turned her head to April. “Don’t tell him I said that.”
