As I walked out of the bedroom, I pressed “play” on my iPod and Tweet’s song
Oops Oh My
started to fill the room. The beat to the song allowed me to let loose and grind my hips seductively. I also started singing to him as I danced, making sure he paid me all of his attention.

I saw him say, “Holy shit,” holding his glass midair in front of his mouth. He watched me with hooded eyes as I teased my body and touched myself to the song. I swear if I had a pole in front of me, I would have really messed him up. But me dropping my ass to the ground and popping it in front of him was doing the trick.

When the chorus came on and said, “Oops there goes my shirt up over my head,” I pulled my shirt off to show him my bra, tiny panties, and garter belt. Once I lost the shirt, I really showed my goodies to him as I continued my assault on his senses.

Now he has told me he doesn’t frequent strip clubs because seeing women dancing around naked does nothing for him. Even when they dance on his lap, he says all it does is gives his dick a brush burn from his jeans, but he is never aroused.

So I popped my bra and let it fall to the ground, turned around, and sat on his lap with my back to his front. I felt he was extremely aroused. I smiled to myself. When the rap part of the song came on, I leaned back on him. Resting my head on his shoulder, I began playing with myself and grinding on his lap.

I felt his breathing change, and he growled in my ear, “You are going to destroy me.”

He then started playing with my breasts and nipples, while I pleasured myself on his lap. I have never done this for anyone. As the rhythm of the beat combined with him showing his need for me—kissing on my neck and shoulders—I was about to come. So I stopped and turned to face him. I continued my grinding session on him as the song started to end. He brought my fingers to his mouth and tasted them. ‘He definitely wasn’t going to be the only one destroyed.’

The beat just kept going, and he just watched me, letting me know that he was definitely going to fuck me until my head exploded.

Another song started to play, and he stood from the chair with me still attached to him. I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he went over to the cake.

“Are you going to make a wish?” I asked him.

I lit the candle, and he quickly blew it out. Then he shocked the hell out of me by reaching into the cake and grabbing a huge handful of frosting. He smeared it on my chest and then licked his fingers.

“I fucking love whipped cream icing.” I laughed, and he grabbed the bottle of champagne and headed to the bedroom.

That night, what we had was something I can only describe as fucking phenomenal, mind-blowing, kinky ass, fucking love making. I have never in my life experienced anything remotely like it before. He drank champagne off my body and just had his way with me and I with him. The cake was never eaten in the traditional way, but we didn’t care.

We had the time of our lives, and I hoped, even if it was for a few hours, Mason was able to not worry.

Chapter 14
Maxine

The next morning I crawled out of the bed slowly, trying not to wake Mason. We went bananas last night and with his fight last night, the upcoming ones today, and Alex, I wanted him to sleep as much as possible.

I ordered breakfast for the birthday boy and sat out on the patio that was off our room.

I was up for about two hours when I finally heard him stirring behind me.

He groaned and said to me, “Hey, why are you not lying next to me?”

I turned from the beautiful ocean view and walked back into the room. I crawled back in the bed and kissed him.

“Happy birthday, baby.”

“Hmmm. Thank you, baby.”

He touched my face and looked in my eyes.

Seeing the worry in them, he said, “How do I look?”

I shook my head. “Like you were punched in the face.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, I was.”

“How do you feel?”

He pulled me down on top of him and started kissing my neck. “Like I want more birthday cake.”

When we finally got out of bed, I placed his breakfast—eggs and a T-bone steak—in front of him while he sat at the table smiling at me.

“What?”

“It seems we have a lot to talk about.”

I looked confused. “What do you mean?”

“I’m thinking since you proposed to me, I expect a ring on my finger. Or I’ll take some other type of jewelry to seal the deal.”

I laughed. “Yeah, I think I can accommodate you.”

I had already had his gift in the living room, so I grabbed it off the side table and pushed the small box over to him. The fork stopped in midair—it seems I’m doing a lot of shocking these days—and then he looked up at me.

“Uh, baby, I was kidding.”

I shrugged. “Happy Birthday. I hope you like it.”

He groaned. “Angel, you shouldn’t have.”

He put his fork down and slowly removed wrapping paper that had “Champ” written all over it. The box was non-descriptive. But when he opened it, his eyes grew wide. On one of the days he sent me out shopping, I found a watch that I fell in love with. I saved all my tips and threw in a few of my savings to make sure I found something he would like. I knew his taste was far beyond what I could afford. But I lucked out and found a black solid steel watch with a large face that only showed the hands. Diamonds circled the face. It was simple and expensive, but the look on his face made it worth every penny saved. I figured if I was moving in with him, why not use some of my savings on him? I don’t need a car right now, anyway. He removed the watch from its case and took a long look at it. His silence was driving me crazy.

“Do you like it? I had it engraved, so I hope you do.”

He turned the face over and studied it some more before he stood, placed his butt on the table, and swiveled until he was facing me. He stood and pulled me into him, placing his lips on mine. His hand went to my hair, and he pulled me closer as he devoured my mouth. When he pulled back, he rested his forehead against mine.

“I love it. And I love you.”

“Yeah, you really like it?” I asked, trying to gather myself from the whopper of a kiss he just put on me.

“No, I love it. It’s the greatest gift anyone has ever given to me.”

He put the watch down on the table and pulled me to his lips again, this time with both hands in my hair. Kissing him has never ceased to blow my mind and, just as it’s doing now, I’m losing the strength in my legs.

“I love you so much, baby,” he said while still kissing me.

I let Mason rest for the rest of the day. He has to be on his A-game tonight, and I don’t want to be the cause of him not performing. I also knew he was worried about Alex. Alex called him last night and assured him he would be there for at least the second fight, if he would do what he’s supposed to do and knock out his first opponent.

I know hearing his voice gave him some peace of mind, but I know he won’t relax until he sees his face.

When we arrived at the building for his last list of fights, I could see he was looking around the faces in the crowd. He was watching the door of our waiting room, hoping Alex would walk through.

“Are you ready for this?” Lou asked him.

“I’m straight,” Mason told him and started warming up.

Lou looked over at me skeptically, but I tried to give him a reassuring smile. I was worried about Mason’s focus, too. But if Mason said he was okay, then I trusted him.

Once the fights started, we sat next to the cage waiting for Mason’s turn to fight. Mason and Lou exchanged notes about the two fighters in the ring, just in case one of them would become his opponent if he moves to the next round. When it was finally his turn, he looked over at me, and I smiled.

“Go kick his ass.”

He nodded and kissed me before entering the cage. The announcer did his thing and announced both fighters. Mason was up against Viper, one of the fighters Tim mentioned would be a threatening opponent for him.

Once the bell rang, Mason watched Viper. But he but didn’t have to wait very long for Viper to attack. He was true to his name, because he attacked swiftly by throwing a barrage of punches and kicks toward Mason. Mason blocked all, but one kick that landed on his side. He grunted but stayed upright.

Mason managed to get a few hits in but still wasn’t able to land the hit he wanted. They went back and forth until the bell rang for the end of the first round.

As Lou was talked to Mason, Mason looked past his shoulder toward the crowd. I followed his gaze and found Roland standing there. I went over to him to hand him a back-stage pass.

I asked him, “Where’s Alex?”

Roland looked at me and smiled, but his smile didn’t reach his eyes.

“He had to take a leak.”

He then walked past me and headed up to the cage. I watched Mason look at Roland, but they never exchanged words. I knew something was terribly wrong when I saw Mason’s demeanor change. It was the same thing I saw when he fought Trip.
Oh God
.

The bell rang before I got to the cage. Just as I sat down, Mason let Viper get a few hits on him without protecting himself. I started screaming for him to block, but he wasn’t listening. I looked over at Roland, who just looked straight ahead with a blank face. I heard a loud crunch and a thud, and I closed my eyes.
Please, God
, I said to myself. But as the crowd went crazy, I opened my eyes and turned to the cage to see Mason standing back while the ref counted and ended the fight.

I looked wide-eyed at Mason who simply stared off into nothing. When he climbed out of the cage, he went right up to Roland. He threw the gloves off his hands and grabbed Roland by the shirt.

“What the fuck happened?”

Roland put his hands up in surrender.

“Reap, man, I…” he started, but Mason let him go and walked off.

Roland followed him, and so did I. When Mason got away from the crowd, he turned to Roland.

“How?” was all he asked.

“Sniper,” Roland replied.

Mason leaned against the wall behind him and closed his eyes. I looked between Roland and Mason and finally understood what happened.

“Oh my God!”

Mason eyes shot open, and he looked at me. I put my hands to my mouth to stop myself from screaming as tears started falling. Mason walked toward me and wrapped me in his arms. I hugged him back, as I heard footsteps coming up behind me. I stood silently as Mason told Lou that Alex was killed. Lou looked stunned but just nodded his head. Mason wiped my tears, and I looked in his eyes that no longer showed the light and liveliness I was used to. Instead, his eyes were dark and seemed full of anger and rage.

“I’m sorry, baby,” I told him.

He kissed my lips.

“I know. I’m sorry too…more than you’ll ever know.”

One of the officials of the tournament came over to get Lou and Mason, and they walked back to the cage. I was numb, and I couldn’t imagine what Mason was feeling right now. I know how close he was with Alex, and I knew how adamant he was about not wanting him to go. To know that Alex was dead, and he couldn’t prevent it had to be eating away at him.

The Mason that stepped into the cage was no longer the Mason that I woke up next to this morning. He wasn’t the Mason that made love to me with passion and determination. No, this Mason was filled with anger…and possibly with guilt. I thought this would be a long night. But instead, when that bell rang, Mason took out everything he was feeling on the man in front of him. His opponent, Shane the Butcher Wallace, was another fighter that Tim and his friends mentioned, and he was definitely good.

He gave Mason two rounds of hell. But at the end of round two, Mason did an unbelievable move that I had seen him do to Trip. He stepped up on the cage and punched the hell out of the Butcher. Then, as the Butcher was thrown back from the force of his punch, Mason grabbed him and threw him over his shoulder, coming down with him to land a vicious blow to his face that knocked the Butcher out.

When Mason got up, he wasn’t even breathing heavy. It was as if he didn’t waste even one ounce of energy. The place erupted in shouts and applause. I knew Mason didn’t hear any of it. He just left the cage and took his seat, while he waited for his next fight.

I watched the man I fell in love with slowly close himself off from everyone around him. This wasn’t good, but I didn’t know what to do about it. Lou talked to him quietly, and he responded with nods and even a few words if necessary. Who he spoke to longer was Roland. I wanted to know what they were talking about, and I moved closer to the two. But the look that Mason gave me stopped me in my tracks.

Mason’s next fight was a blur for everyone in the building. He walked in the cage, heard the bell, and started pounding on the man in front of him. He was relentless and methodical. His opponent didn’t stand a chance. To be honest, it didn’t matter who was in the ring with him. He decimated his quarry with either a knock-out or submission.

He made it to the championship. He fought the Executioner and made the fight one of the most interesting and brutal fights in history. The two men went at each other blow for blow, kick for kick. But Mason was fueled by deadly rage that was too much for his opponent. I watched in amazement as Mason brought the big man down and moved his body to complete one of the most deadly and difficult choke holds—the Peruvian necktie that made his opponent tap out—to gain the title.

Mason grinned and looked at me when they named him champion. I smiled, hoping that the smile he gave me wouldn’t be the last one I would see on his handsome face.

I waited next to Lou while he did some interviews, posed for photos, and even signed some autographs. Tim, Lock, and Jared found Mason, and he gave them extra attention and time while his other fans just watched in awe. I thought that was the sweetest thing I had ever seen. So when we finally got back to the room and away from the public, I was shocked as hell to see the anger dripping from his body.

Roland was sitting on the couch as was I, and we both watched Mason pace back and forth in front of us. Roland told Mason what happened on the trip. They were entering the area identified as the kidnapping site when someone started shooting at them.

“Ro, help me understand how a sniper picked off five of your guys, including Alex, when this was supposed to be a recon type of mission with little to no danger,” he yelled.

“I don’t know, Reap. Man, we’ve made this trip to this area a dozen times, and we never had an issue. I’ve got my guys looking into to what happened, and I’m waiting for them to get back to me.”

Mason looked at him and took a deep breath.

“The moment you get the intel, you let me know. Is that understood?”

Roland stood and looked at me, then back at Mason. He nodded.

“Copy that.”

He walked out of the room and, after I heard the door close, I looked at Mason.

“Baby, from what you’ve told me about the guys you served with, this can’t be Roland’s fault.”

“I know it’s not, Maxine,” he said sharply.

I frowned.

“It’s not yours either.”

Mason glared at me for a minute. Then his face softened but only slightly. He slumped down in the chair next to him and closed his eyes.

When he seemed to be calm, he looked at me.

“Look, I know it’s no one’s fault Alex is dead but the person who pulled the trigger. It still doesn’t take away the fact that he shouldn’t have been there in the first place. As a matter of fact, no one should have. I knew something was off…I knew it. The op just didn’t feel right, even when Roland explained it at the club. I should have been there, Max. I shouldn’t have been here fighting against these fucking low lives. I should have been there with them. Maybe if I was, I could have prevented…”

I sat up. “Could have prevented what? Alex from getting killed? Mason, for all you know you could’ve been killed right along with them.”

“Yeah, well, there are worse things than dying,” he muttered

“Mason…”

He rose from the chair and said, “I need some air.”
