“Who?”
Jared asked.

“He
is a hierarchy demon, known as ‘The Tempter of the Holy’ or ‘The Demon of
Corruption,” Hecate told them. “I think maybe your father was against us. It sounds
as though he had been recruited to join the bad guys and wanted to bring Vetis
into it. Hmmm…I wonder if Vetis would have been happy about that; he can be an
incredibly mean son of a bitch.”

“Was
killing himself part of the ritual?” Lucian asked her.

“No,
I don’t think so, so hopefully his little plan was ruined. Maybe he came to his
senses for a moment and decided to end his own life before the ritual was completed.
I’ll make some inquiries.”

“What
exactly is going on here? Why did we have to come to you?” Jared asked.

“Oh,
here we go again with the explaining,” I sighed.

“And
while we’re asking questions,” Marshal said. “What the hell are
you,
Keira?”

I
didn’t like his tone, and Danny and Hecate noticed me tense a little.

“Keira,
calm down. Ignore his tone,” Danny said quickly while throwing a look of death
at Marshal.

“I’m
sorry Keira. I didn’t mean to sound so cold, I just don’t understand what’s
going on here,” Marshal said, cupping his head in his hands. “I didn’t mean to
take it out on you.”

“It’s
okay,” I said, taking a deep breath and calming down. I couldn’t believe how
sensitive this new power was. I’d instantly wanted to go on the defensive.

“Please
try not to upset her; it’s dangerous at the moment,” Lily reminded the new
guys.

“Can
someone start at the beginning and tell us what’s happening, please?” Olivia
asked.

“Here
we go again,” Lucian started.

He
started from when they were calling out to me. This was going to take a long
time, and I wasn’t in the mood to listen to it all. I was just about to walk
out of the living room when Eligos appeared in front of me.

“Lilith
is going nuts,” he told me. “And so is Lucifer. They both want to see you, now.”

“Am
I in trouble?”

“No,
you’re
not, but
somebody
is. This won’t be good. If what I think
is going to happen
actually
happens…well, let’s just say it could cause
the third war between Heaven and Hell.”

“Great,”
I sighed. “A war with some idiot we don’t know yet, and now a possibility of
another one. Jesus, this life, it’s not actually about life…it’s all about
death. If people aren’t killing each other, then Heaven and Hell kill us all.”

“If
we can calm them down it may not come to that,” he said, taking my hand. “But
we need to go now.”

I
turned to look at the others. Lucian was busy explaining everything and the
others were filling bits in that he missed. Hecate was staring at us.

“Just
go,” she mouthed to us. “I’ll tell them you’ve gone.”

I
nodded and turned back to Eligos.

“Let’s
see what happens—you might not even be able to go to Hell now,” he told me.

“Oh,
I’m going,” I said, determined, and watched as the room disappeared.

Chapter 4

Seriously
Forbidden

Keira

We
arrived in the main hall of the palace and found Lucifer and Lilith waiting for
us. I looked around. Every exit was blocked by no less than five guards; I
instantly felt threatened and had to try to relax before the angel showed
itself again.

“Keira,
these guards are
not
to keep
you
in,” Lucifer explained as he
walked over to me. “They’re to make sure nobody gets inside. I have people in
the corridors and rooms off here too. So please don’t think we’re trying to
trap you. You’re free to leave whenever you like.”

I
didn’t speak, I just nodded my head quickly and continued to try and relax.

“We
need to know exactly what happened,” Lilith said, standing beside him.

“I
can’t talk right now,” I quickly said.

“I’ll
tell you,” Eligos said.

I
stood in silence while he explained about the church and the mist, and then
about what happened when I returned home. Lucifer and Lilith never spoke; they
just listened to every word he said to them.

“Right!”
Lucifer shouted. “Right, that’s it!” He turned his back on us, and I saw his
fists clench by his side.

“Lucifer,
control yourself!” Lilith said sternly. “You can’t do it.”

“Watch
me,” he said through gritted teeth as he turned to face us all.

His
eyes were the deepest red I had ever seen, richer in color than any ruby nature
could create. A minute later he disappeared.

“Shit!
Take my advice,” Lilith said in a panicked voice. “Hide, get out of the palace.”
She turned to the guards. “Tell everyone you can to get underground—now!”

“Keira
come quickly,” Eligos said, grabbing my arm and dragging me out of the hall.

“What
about Lilith?” I asked.

“She’ll
be okay, she’ll go somewhere safe.” He tried to teleport us to his castle but
something was stopping him. “Shit!” he shouted, before taking a firm hold of my
hand. “We’re gonna have to run for it.”

As
soon as he had finished his sentence we heard people screaming and very loud
noises coming from outside.

“What’s
going on?” I asked as we ran down the corridor.

“This
isn’t the time; just don’t look back and keep hold of my hand no matter what.”

“Okay,”
I said, gripping him tighter.

“Don’t
stop running!”

We
ran down the remainder of the corridor. He held his free hand out in front of him,
the large entrance doors opened quickly, and we ran out and down the stone
steps. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. People were running around hysterically,
screaming and seeking shelter. Eligos gripped my hand even tighter as we ran
through the hordes of people.

Beams
of light were travelling down from the sky and then moving across the ground,
as though the light beams were tornados. Anyone caught in their path was burned—the
light was killing them, destroying their very souls. I saw their souls emerge
from their bodies then disperse.

If
the light touched the buildings, they were blown up. Large pieces of stone were
thrown into the air before landing, sometimes on top of the people and trapping
them. The ground was shaking and cracking. In some parts, lava was shooting up
out of the large voids, instantly setting fire to and sometimes melting
whatever it came in contact with.

“Unsere,”
I heard Eligos shout.

I
looked in front of me and saw her and Eaven start running towards us.

“We
can’t get home,” she shouted. “We’re too far away, and we can’t teleport.”

“Come
with us, quickly.”

They
ran beside us holding each other’s hand. Large balls of fire began to fall from
the sky, causing explosions all around us. I felt like I was in the middle of a
severe meteor shower. I’d tried hard not to panic or get scared, but now I
couldn’t help it. I stopped dead in my tracks, causing Eligos to lose his grip
on my hand.

“Keira,
we can’t stop,” he shouted, grabbing hold of me again. But no matter how hard
he tried, he couldn’t move me. “Keira come....”

He
stopped half way through his sentence when he saw the glowing marks appear on
my skin. I couldn’t contain it anymore; the angel was going to break free. Eligos
let go of my hand quickly but didn’t leave my side. Unsere and Eaven were
screaming at both of us, telling us to run until they noticed what was
happening.

I
still couldn’t move…I was frozen to the spot. Some of the people stopped
running for safety, and instead stood there staring at me, frightened but
intrigued. I had to watch helplessly while some of them were hit by the balls
of fire and light beams. My whole body warmed, and I watched as a force field
started to appear around me, growing larger with every second that passed until
Eligos was underneath it too. He looked worried when it first approached him,
but he didn’t move.

“It
will not harm you,” I said, still staring ahead of me. “It will protect you.”

The
force field continued to grow; Unsere and Eaven got brave and walked right
inside it. I could see Unsere looking at it in awe. Eligos finally left my side
and started motioning for the people to take shelter within it. They ran
towards it as fast as they could, hundreds of them. I didn’t know how they
would all fit inside, but as soon as it became cramped the force field would
grow larger. Lords, ladies, normal people, and creatures, all of them were
close together, some holding each other. All of them watched what was happening,
and all of them knew they were safe within the force field; it was their
shelter. If one of the beams of light hit the outside of the shield it created
a blinding white light, but it couldn’t penetrate the barrier. If one of the
raining balls of fire hit it, the fire would instantly disappear. It even
protected some of the buildings. When I saw that I turned to face the palace.

“Lilith,”
I almost whispered.

As
soon as I said her name the force field grew again, enveloping the palace. At
least now I was certain she would be safe. Guards came running out towards the
palace gates, not understanding what was happening. As soon as they saw the
field they all seemed to smile slightly and look in my direction. Lilith came
out and looked directly at me. Her face was almost unreadable from the distance,
but it looked like she was relieved.

I
turned my attention back to Eligos. He stood beside me once again.

“How
long can you keep this up?” he asked me.

“I
have no idea; it’s not really me that’s doing it if you know what I mean.”

“Keira,
it
is
you; it’s you that’s protecting everyone. The power of the angel is
responding to your feelings.”

“If
that’s true then I’ll keep this up until everything returns to normal.”

“I
hope so,” Unsere said from behind me. “This is...it’s unbelievable.”

“What’s
going on here?” I asked.

“We
don’t know. I know
I’ve
never seen anything like it,” Eaven said,
joining us.

“Lucifer
has gone to Heaven,” Eligos told us.

“What?”
we all gasped.

“I
didn’t think that was possible,” I said, in shock.

“He
is the only one who can do it—well, God himself could come here, but He never
has…He detests the place,” he explained. “Oh, and God can send His warriors
here, but we can’t send ours to Heaven, which I personally think is a load of
crap.”

“Warriors?”

“Archangels
are Gods most ferocious and toughest creation,” Eaven told me. “Lucifer is one.”

“Have
you ever faced one?” I asked.

“No.”

“Never
even met one, other than Lucifer of course,” Unsere said.

“You
have now,” Eligos told her. “She’s standing right in front of you.”

“I
thought she was just a normal angel,” she said, examining me.

“No,
only archangels have glowing blue eyes.”

“So
you’re no longer a demon?” she asked me.

“Yes,
I’m a demon too.”

“What?”

“We’ll
explain later,” Eligos told her.

I
looked back towards the palace; Lilith was nowhere to be seen. Some of the
guards had gone too. How long would this carry on? How long would Lucifer be
gone? Did he know what would happen once he had gone, and if so,
why
did
he go? He cared about the people in Hell; I didn’t understand why he would do
something that would put them at risk. It was terrible. Luckily though, I didn’t
have to watch anyone else die. The force field was so large now, and there were
so many people and creatures underneath it that I couldn’t see very far ahead
of me.

“Eligos,”
I said, turning to face him. “How much longer do we have to wait here like
this?”

“I
don’t know. Are you okay?”

“I
think so; I just feel a little tired.”

“He’s
been gone awhile now…I’m hoping he’ll be back soon.”

“Will
all this stop then?”

“I
don’t know,” he said sadly. “All we can do is wait and see.”

Chapter 5

Lucifer
Returns

Keira

I
don’t know how long we waited for Lucifer to come back to Hell. I just knew I
was getting more and more tired by the second, and was starting to worry that I
couldn’t keep the force field going. I was relieved, to say the least, when the
light beams disappeared and the balls of fire stopped falling. We were finally safe
again. The force field disappeared, but I didn’t return to normal. My eyes were
still blue, and the vine markings on my skin still glowed.
