The next morning I woke up to an empty bed and saw a note from Spencer on the dresser.

I laughed out loud and threw on some comfy pajama pants and a loose fitting bra. I had no intentions of doing anything today, though I knew we only had a few days left. I swallowed an entire water bottle and headed to the girl’s room, finding them all huddled in one bed, moaning and bitching. I fit right in, lifting the covers to join them. Rory raised her eyes to me and I quickly shook my head with a disappointed no. I hadn’t gotten the goods from Spencer. She smiled briefly then lifted her hand to her head with a groan. We sat in silence mourning our brain cells and watching
Thelma and Louise
. We barely looked up when Jack and Spencer came in toting a huge amount of breakfast.

“Thanks, guys,” Amy said, her voice hoarse as she lifted up only to grab whatever food was in the bag and shove it in her mouth.

“Baby, you can have whatever you want today.” Jack beamed at her with a knowing smile.

“Silence is golden,” Amy chimed. “And the curtains, draw them immediately.” I gave Amy a knowing smile as she blushed. I had given her a few tips on how to drive a man insane last night. I was sure she had used them all.

The guys looked at each other as Rory, Ellie and I grabbed a handful of the breakfast sandwiches and began to devour them. Spencer gave me a wink and brushed my leg with his fingertips as he stood next to the bed.

“The girls are useless today, bro,” Spencer said, eyeing me as I stuffed half a sandwich in my mouth.

“Guys, go and don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you,” Ellie said, muffled only by her sandwich. We all cracked up and motioned them on to leave us in our misery. Spencer gave me a look of remorse as they left us to wither away. At noon we slowly emerged from our coma, all of us passing out immediately after Thelma and Louise took their plunge. We all woke with one thing on our minds: a shower.

We had three rooms so I went to the one Spencer and I shared the night before and claimed it. Rory was fast behind me, bitching that she wasn’t paying for the room so she would suck it up. I laughed at her still whining as I stripped. I felt great, better than great. I would take it easy on the booze tonight, so I could be hard on Spencer. I had a goal and had no intentions of going soft on it. After my shower, I heard Spencer talking to Rory, so I decided to play dumb and come out wearing nothing. I saw his eyes widen and Rory’s knowing smile as she muttered something and took the bathroom.

“Thanks for last night,” I said, wrapping the towel around me, seeing his disappointment.

“Why don’t you come over here and thank me.”

He was sitting in a desk chair, looking heavenly in shorts and a white t-shirt. His legs parted slightly and he patted his lap. Everything about his demeanor made him irresistibly dangerous.

“No.”

“No?”

“No.”

“Well that’s a terrible way to thank a man,” he said with a small amount of humor in his voice.

“Sorry,” I said dryly, feigning indifference.

“Get over here,” he said in a commanding way and I was instantly hot.

I dropped the towel again, sliding on my skimpiest pair of lace panties, leaving my breasts bare and slid a flowered sundress over my head.

“No.”

“Nadine, you are going to regret that.”

I smiled and walked over to the table, picking up his iced tea.

“Love it. Can I have it?” Without waiting for an answer I sucked it dry making a slurping noise.

“You will pay for that, too.”

“Wow, looks like I’m in trouble.” I giggled as he wrapped his arms around my waist and dragged me to his lap.

“So flowers on top and the devil underneath?”

“Pretty much sums it up.”

“I understand your game, girl.”

“Are you ready to play today, Spencer?”

“Baby, am I ever.” He slid his hand up my thigh, making no attempt to slow himself, and reached my panties in seconds, circling me and making me cry out suddenly. He nibbled on my lobe before sticking his tongue into my ear. “You’re wet already.” I moaned louder, still hearing the water going, and knew we were safe. I waited on his next move.

He kept circling, bringing me to the point and then slid his hand underneath my panties, dragging my slickness over me. I turned my head and bit his shirt, grabbing a little skin with my teeth while furiously rubbing my ass over his erection, up and down as he circled me. His breath was just as ragged as mine. Still teasing me with one hand, he used the other to roam my chest, cupping my breast and pinching my nipple gently. I moaned out to him as his tongue flicked in and out of my ear. Neither one of us was winning this round; it was time.

I turned on him suddenly and sank to my knees, freeing him. I took a little time to admire his hard length. I showed my appreciation by taking him fully in my mouth. Within seconds I was swallowing his hardness completely and saw him exhale as he titled my chin up to meet his eyes. There—already—was the look I craved. He reached in his pocket and grabbed a condom and ripped it with his teeth. I studied his sex in awe and found myself sad at the loss of the sight of him as he fitted himself with the condom. I gave him one quick stroke of my hand and climbed onto his lap and positioned myself. He grabbed my hips, ready.

“Jesus,” he breathed across my parted lips. I put the tip of him in me and heard the water shut off. Spencer cursed a string of obscenities as I let out my own, sliding my underwear in place as he fastened his throbbing back into his pants.

“You are so going to pay,” he said as he stood up quickly and walked out of the room.

I was too consumed with what almost happened to laugh at his quick retreat to relieve himself. It had been too much. I was all too tempted to follow and let him take me somewhere, anywhere, the elevator, the staircase, a freaking bathroom. Truth be told, we were both enjoying this amazing game of cat and mouse, but enough was enough. We were total idiots at this point for missing any chance we had at being alone. I was positive we were now in agreement.

I would make sure tonight there were no interruptions. The ache inside my thighs had me uncomfortable and bitchy. Rory circled the corner and met me, flaming and puffed up.

“Damn, Rory, you couldn’t take a longer shower!”

“Well, looks like you struck out again, Nadine.” She laughed. I picked up a brush off the bed and smacked her ass with it hard.

We spent less than an hour on our appearance and met up with everyone in Jack and Amy’s room. Once we all gathered again, we headed to the nearest place for crawfish. Apparently, this was the place to get it. I wasn’t fond of the idea. As we sat ordering beers, I was having second thoughts. I knew what they were, but they didn’t appeal to me. Not at all. I had taken it easy on the beer as Spencer sat across from me, screwing me every which way from Sunday with his eyes and I did the same.

“We should do it again, what we did last night. Exactly the same way,” Jack snickered, eyeing his wife.

“Shut up, honey. Really, if you don’t, it will never happen again,” Amy said, her face lighting up. I gave her a knowing smile and looked at Jack who seemed to be glowing. Wow.

“I don’t freaking think so,” Rory and Ellie muttered simultaneously at the recall of their pounding heads this morning. I was smiling along with them until an entire trough of crawfish was dumped onto the table before us. They had heads, and eyes, there were
eyes
on the damn things. NO, NO, NO.

“Hell yes,” Jack said, digging in and taking one by the head and sucking it dry. Everyone looked excited and I quickly stood up.

“I…” I stifled a gag. “I won’t be able to join you for this one guys. Those look really… Ya’ll enjoy that. I’ll be at the shops. Call me, Rory.” I covered my mouth as I ran from the table and as usual, everyone laughed at me.

“Oh come on, honey. You can inhale crab legs, you’ve got this,” Jack said, his voice growing distant as I got the hell out of there.

“How about a burger?” Spencer said, catching up with me.

“Jesus, that’s disgusting. I will eat a rare steak, but I damn sure don’t want its eyes on me when I do.”

“It’s not for everyone.” He laughed as he led me out the door.

“He sucked the brains out of that thing, Spencer!”

He laughed again at my disgust and grabbed my hand. I looked up to him and chuckled. I saw a clock over an awning in front of us that read five o’clock and was quickly saddened. I had lost half a day being hungover. Not worth it. I made a mental note to chill out. I saw a sign directly beneath the clock that made me smile.

“Come on.” I dragged Spencer across the street and he eyed me with a smirk as we made our way into the store.

“Voodoo?” His lips twitched in amusement as we reached the door.

“Why the hell not? I mean no I don’t practice, but it’s fascinating, isn’t it? The dark side.” I wriggled my eyebrows and he laughed as we stepped up into the mustiest smelling shop I had ever been in. It reeked of sweat and incense, the latter trying to mask the stench, but doing a horrible job. My distaste for the smell echoed on my face and I turned to see Spencer’s nostrils flaring as well.

There was a lady behind the counter turned around watching a tiny TV. Some voodoo shop, I thought. All it had in it was tiny trinkets that looked to be commercially made. This was a tourist trap. Only an idiot would endure the smell to buy a replicated mini voodoo doll. I looked at Spencer and nodded for the door, but our unspoken quick escape plan was interrupted.

“Oh, chérie, sumthing you looking for?” The woman’s hair was white, like ghost white, like the color of chalk, and tucked underneath a frumpy knitted hat. It must have been at least a hundred degrees outside. I tried to keep my fascination with her appearance to myself. Her skin was the exact opposite of her hair, dark as night and looked to be as smooth as silk. Her eyes were a color I couldn’t describe. I had no doubt when she was younger she was never left alone. She had a dark look about her, but the tone of her voice was genuine, sweet.

“No, just browsing.”

I gave Spencer an apologetic look as we were forced further into the store to save face. I began closely looking at a shelf full of ridiculously marked ingredients for spells and rolled my eyes. I started browsing through books titled
Voodoo for the Modern Man
and
Authentic Voodoo Rituals
. They might as well have read IDIOT, you are an IDIOT for believing this total bullshit.

I was sure the Voodoo practice was real, but nothing in the shop was. It got me no closer to the dark side and I was a little relived. I was both fascinated and afraid of the dark side. I once bought a Ouija board just to turn around and throw it away an hour later. I was fascinated by evil, or the evil that people do. I studied every single notorious serial killer as a young teen, trying to figure out what made them tick. Voodoo, witchcraft, and all of the other elements that were depicted as evil had nothing to do with any of those cases. They were simply insane, and their nature was evil, and typically methodical. It had nothing to do with believing in anything. Still, all facets of what was considered evil fascinated me.

After a few painful minutes of browsing as the woman watched both Spencer and I carefully, I turned to thank her and she turned back to her TV, not giving us another glance. I walked to the door to find Spencer frozen at the threshold, a look of pure terror on his face. I followed his eyes to find him staring at a black cat who was clearly irritated. It was hiked up on all fours, tail high in the air ready to pounce. The cat was huge. It had to weigh at least twenty-five pounds. Spencer was paling by the second and I heard the cat’s hiss.

“Ma’am, your cat seems to be terrifying my friend.” Spencer’s head refused to look away. He didn’t move, but he was clearly going through the scariest moment of his life.

The lady approached the cat and with the wave of her hand it went completely lax and disappeared behind a shelf. I was now free to laugh and I did so with so much ferocity, I couldn’t stop. Spencer turned on his heel and hauled ass out of the shop and I followed, howling and choking. When we got outside he was completely covered in a layer of sweat that didn’t have a damn thing to do with the humidity.

“You don’t hate cats, you’re terrified of them.” I went into another raging bout of laughter.

It took Spencer a few minutes to recover. When he finally did, he started in with a string of curses and then directed his anger toward me. I backed up, still laughing, my hands up as he cornered me into the shop’s wall.

“You see this scar?” he said, pointing to the one I noticed over his eye a few days ago.

“Yeah so, a cat did that?”

“Fucking A right a cat did that. T-Rex, our family pet. I was into dinosaurs when I named him. Anyway, that was the worst animal on earth. He attacked me while I slept!”

“Okay, Spencer, it’s over. I’m sorry I dragged you into the scary cat shop.”

“Not fucking funny, Nadine. Quit laughing!” I let out another chuckle and grabbed his hand.

“Sorry, it’s just you don’t seem the type to be scared of much.”
