"Oh fuck, Kyle, that's so good." The words were torn from him on a half-strangled moan as the pressure inside became intense.

"It's gonna get better when I get my cock in there."

Kyle's promise sent a flash of heat through Jared's balls. He groaned as Kyle's fingers continued to work on him, stretching him, getting him ready. Then Kyle moved closer. Jared watched him through slitted eyes. Kyle's face was a mask of need, his breathing heavy, labored. Kyle's cock was dripping, the thick, heavy shaft engorged and keen. Jared moaned. He wanted it in him. He wanted Kyle in him.

"Now, Kyle. I want you now."

Kyle's blue gaze pierced his, holding him, the passion in them startlingly raw. Jared lifted his hips a little, and Kyle grabbed hold of his leg, pushing it back toward his chest. Nostrils flared, jaw tightened, Kyle slipped his fingers free. Jared protested on a moan, his fists curled around the sheet beneath him. Kyle glanced up at him once, then gripped his cock and pushed forward with his hips.

The softer, spongy tip pressed against Jared's anus, and he surged toward it, feeling the penetration with only a mild discomfort and a whole lot of pleasure.

"Easy, Jared. I've got to take this slow."

Jared tried to stop the almost frantic urge to take more of Kyle. He wanted him in deep. "I never realized this could be so good," Jared groaned. "Kyle, you have to do this."

"We're going to. But first I've got to get all of me in you."

The hand gripping Jared's leg tightened, and the pressure in his back passage increased. The rest of Kyle's crown entered him, Jared's muscles aching slightly as he adjusted to the extra thickness.

Kyle paused. "You still all right?"

"Yeah. Give me more."

"That good?" Kyle chuckled.

"Just wait. You're not going to believe it."

The smile on Kyle's mouth was of both amusement and doubt.

"Kyle?" When Jared had his attention, when those blue eyes were focused on his, Jared reached out and stroked down Kyle's smooth chest. "I trusted you with this, Kyle. Trust me. I'll make it good."

Kyle's eyes darkened as something behind them shifted. "I do trust you."

"Then fuck me the way you want me to fuck you."

Kyle's grin was the one Jared was used to seeing. "You know I like it slow," Kyle informed him.

"Then do me slow. But please, do me!"

Kyle took a tighter grip and pressed his hips closer once again. His cock sank in another inch, and then another. Kyle groaned. "You're so fucking tight!"

"That's virgin territory you're entering. It damn well should be tight."

"Give me some more lube," Kyle demanded, reaching for the bottle as Jared passed it to him.

Cool liquid drizzled down between Jared's cheeks as Kyle poured more over both of them; then the lube was smoothed over and around Jared's stretched opening. Jared waited for Kyle to move; instead he felt a burn as something eased in besides Kyle cock.

"What the fuck!"

"It's my finger. I need to loosen you up a bit more."

Jared closed his eyes. He didn't even want to imagine how sore he was going to be in the morning. "Next time let me know when you're going to do something like that. I almost shit myself."

"You're a funny guy, Jared. Now, take a deep breath and breathe out slowly."

Jared did so, and Kyle plunged in deep, finally filling him in one long, slow glide.

Their groans combined to charge their already needy bodies.

"I've never done this bare," Kyle confessed on a moan. "I can't believe how hot you are. This is fucking amazing."

"You're telling me?" Jared was staring into Kyle's eyes, taking slow, deep breaths to hold himself still. The need to move, the need to have Kyle's cock glide in and out of him was compulsive. He'd fucked enough guys to know most bottoms preferred to do so because they actually enjoyed it. Jared now knew why, though he didn't think he would enjoy it so much if it was just anyone fucking him. He knew without a doubt it was Kyle who was doing this to him, who was making him feel this way.

"I'm not hurting you?"

"No." To prove his point, Jared clenched the muscles surrounding Kyle's shaft.

Kyle groaned. "Oh fuck!"

"That's how good it feels, Kyle."

"I believe you. Fuck, I believe you." Kyle took a couple of steadying breaths, then flexed his thighs. "Are you ready for me to move now?"

"Kiss me first." Jared wanted Kyle's mouth on his, needed it.

Kyle leaned forward, the change of angle causing his cock to shift within its berth. Jared grunted and instinctively wrapped his legs around Kyle's waist to hold him there.

Kyle's grin as he took Jared's mouth had them both laughing. "This isn't supposed to be something to laugh about," Jared announced, though he loved the fact that both he and Kyle were so comfortable with each other they
could
laugh at a time like this. Kyle kissed him again with a little less humor and a lot more passion. Jared slid his arms around Kyle's neck and ran his lips along Kyle's jaw. "Mmm, you smell good," he said, his tongue delving along the sensitive area below Kyle's ear. Kyle shuddered.

"Jared."

"Yeah?"

"I need to move now."

Jared needed him to move too. "You gonna go slow?" he asked, perfectly confident Kyle was going to take them both beyond pleasure to somewhere else entirely.

"The slower, the better." Kyle's leer should have warned Jared, yet he was still unprepared for when Kyle pulled slowly back, the agonizingly torturous glide across the overly sensitized flesh almost impossible to take.

Jared's back arched under Kyle's heavy weight as he gripped his lover's shoulders. He couldn't even moan; the sound was trapped in his throat as Kyle started forward again. And so it began. Each beautifully executed move was designed to please, to cause as much delight as possible. Kyle was an expert in torment, Jared realized, and now it was too late to do anything but lie back and take it.

Kyle's body bore down on him, unrelenting, strong, masculine, and yet with a gentleness that affected Jared more than anything else. Jared held Kyle, beginning to rock with him, their movements slow and easy but driven by building passion.

"You feel so good," Kyle moaned. "So tight, so hot."

"You keep telling me that."

"I've never felt anything like this. Never had anyone like you. Do you understand what I'm saying?" Kyle's eyes were glowing, the blue flames searing in their intensity. They burned deep into Jared's heart, filling it, claiming it. Yet he couldn't say anything back, not right then, not until they had a chance to talk, not until tomorrow. He felt a little ashamed at his lack of response, more so when the light dimmed in Kyle's eyes.

He dropped his gaze, then pulled Kyle down to him, relieved when Kyle didn't resist. Their mouths met, tongues stroking, fueling the fire that was beginning to burn between them as Kyle unrelentingly pitched his hips, slanting them to go deeper. Trapped between Kyle's stomach and his own, Jared's cock was being kneaded and squeezed, the rub of their joined bodies pushing him to the edge. He groaned, then broke free of their kiss, panting now as he met each of Kyle's thrusts with one of his own.

Kyle took some of his weight on his forearms and rested his head on Jared's shoulder. "Jared," he said, his voice softly muted. "I'm coming. Please tell me you're close."

"I'm barely hanging on," Jared confessed, Kyle's plea sending a shiver down his spine and making his stomach clench.

"Then come with me," Kyle said, lifting onto his hands and stroking the hard length of his cock deep, filling Jared with both pleasure and a profound sense of belonging. This was what he wanted. This was what he'd been looking for.

He looked up at Kyle, watching those blue eyes, seeing in them everything he'd ever hoped to get and more. He needed to say something, and he needed to do it now. Instead he bit his lip and moaned.

"Jared. I'm going to come hard." The strain in Kyle's voice echoed the strain in Jared's body. Strung tight, he reached toward a climax, the glide of Kyle deep inside him pushing him there, taking him higher until he was so close he could feel the edge of it like a knife. He scarcely had enough awareness of anything else to consider that this was the first time a man was going to come in his ass.

"Kyle." Nothing else got past his throat as the purest sensation he'd ever felt took him and swept him away on a tide that seemed never ending. Muscles clenching, pulsing, he shuddered as his cock gushed a torrent of hot, steamy seed. His internal muscles, the ones that held Kyle like a glove, tightened, sending another wave of unbidden bliss to rip apart every sense this was anything but real.

Kyle gave a strangled cry, thrusting uncontrollably, his hips toiling to bring about his own orgasm. He reared back, neck taut.

"Look at me. Kyle, look at me!" Jared ordered. He grabbed Kyle's face, forcing his lover to open his eyes. Blue flame encompassed him, throwing him back into the heat of the fire.

"Jared. Now!" Kyle's hips gave one final, hard thrust, and Jared geared himself to take the hot eruption of Kyle's climax. He felt the torrid pulse saturate him, fill him, own him.

Jared groaned, throwing his arms around Kyle's body, holding them both until they slowly came down from the high Kyle had sent them to. Jared stroked Kyle's back, the muscles beneath his palms relaxing as the sated man snuggled into his chest, Kyle's own arms cradling Jared's neck. Jared let him stay for a minute, then dropped his legs from around Kyle's waist and unceremoniously dumped him to the side so he could breathe a little easier.

"Wassa matta?" Kyle mumbled.

Jared nearly laughed aloud; instead he just smiled. "Nothing, lover. Go to sleep." He waited a few minutes and then untangled himself from Kyle's arms and quickly headed for the bathroom. He wet a cloth with some soap and warm water and, after washing himself down, returned to the bedroom, the cloth rinsed and resoaped.

Kyle's big body filled the whole bed. Jared stood and looked down at him, the smile that etched his mouth repeated in his heart. He gently cleansed Kyle, careful not to wake him; then he threw the wet cloth into the bathroom and climbed into bed, easing back into Kyle's arms. Kyle reached for him, pulling him close, unconsciously throwing his leg over Jared's thigh, trapping him in an embrace.

Jared didn't mind. He liked Kyle holding him. He liked the idea that, even asleep, Kyle wanted him. He smiled again, the happiness that settled in his chest both wonderful and unexpected. He grabbed the sheet and slipped it over both of them and then closed his eyes. Sleep, he knew, was going to come quickly. He was replete in more ways than one. He'd just had the best sex of his life, but what made Jared happy, what made this night different than any other was that he was going to sleep with a man he knew he could seriously fall in love with.

The concept wasn't as staggering as he'd thought. He knew his feelings toward Kyle were unlike anything he'd ever felt before, knew Kyle was unlike any man he'd ever met before. He wanted Kyle, wanted to make Kyle his. He tried to think of a way, tried to weigh up the pros and cons, tried to accept what his heart was telling him, which was to ignore what his mind wouldn't let go of, and once more uncertainty warred with desire. What they'd done tonight didn't tell him anything except he was a fool to think he could ever let Kyle go. Jared slid his arms tighter around Kyle. Again he asked himself why his life couldn't be simple, again he knew the answer, but now he
was
trying to open himself up for some happiness; he just didn't know if he was allowed to have it.

Tomorrow. He could sort it out tomorrow. Perhaps Kyle might have an idea and come up with a solution that would suit both of them. God, he hoped so, because he couldn't think anymore. One thing was for certain, though; he was definitely going to have to tell Kyle how he felt. Exhausted, Jared let unconsciousness take him, confident in the knowledge that Kyle would be there to talk to in the morning.

However, when morning came round and Jared woke up, Kyle was nowhere to be seen.

Kyle had gone.

Chapter Four

Confused, Jared waited a full five minutes before getting out of bed and checking the room. He hadn't been mistaken. Kyle was gone.

Why?

Why the hell would Kyle leave? What the hell had gone wrong? He'd thought they had something. He'd thought Kyle had wanted the same things he did. Yesterday Kyle had said he was looking for something permanent, that he'd never had anyone like Jared. Had Kyle lied to him? Had the whole thing been nothing more than a ploy to get him into bed? Jared didn't want to believe it, but with Kyle gone, there was no other explanation.

Sitting on the corner of the bed, Jared closed his eyes and put his head in his hands. What a fucking idiot! Pleasure had obviously swamped whatever sense existed, and he'd stupidly imagined something that wasn't there. He stood up, agitated, pacing the room in an attempt to understand. But there wasn't anything to understand. Kyle had used him. Was that Kyle's usual style? Pick someone up, fuck him, and then leave him?

The swift and intense pain that hit Jared in the chest had him gasping for air. His legs buckled beneath him, and he collapsed onto the edge of the bed.

How could he have been so wrong!

The pain in his chest eased as anger began to replace the hurt. It was his own fault, but that acknowledgment didn't really help him. It didn't lessen the feeling of abandonment or of being duped. His anger swelled until it took everything away except the need to get out of there.

He got dressed and threw his stuff into his bag. Jared didn't even take a last sweeping look around the room to see if he'd missed anything. He didn't want to look at the bed. He didn't want a reminder of the foolish sentiment he'd harbored.

Fuck Kyle anyway!

He slammed the door behind him and walked the few minutes to his truck with his jaw clenched and his gaze firmly on the road ahead. He didn't look back; what would be the point?

Six hours. Six hours and then he'd be home. Jared tried to muster some enthusiasm but couldn't. Last night he'd dreamed he'd told Kyle about the ranch, had told him about his ambition to build it into the biggest bull breeding farm in the area. In his dream, Kyle had been willing to share it with him, had wanted to stay and be a part of that life, and when Jared had woken up this morning, between that half dream state and full wakefulness, he'd decided to ask Kyle to come home with him. But he'd never got the chance to ask. He'd never even got the chance to say good-bye.

Hurt once more claimed his heart, and this time Jared had a much harder time pushing it away. He tried to concentrate on the road, tried to clear his head, but blue eyes haunted his vision, and a smile that could stop his breath seemed to mock him. He'd never been this gullible before. He'd never thought himself to be anything but levelheaded. Too levelheaded sometimes, but now he felt nothing but a whole lot of stupid.

The blaring sound of a siren behind him had Jared quickly checking his rearview mirror. Blue and red lights flashed, two sets, the first on a police car, the second on an ambulance. Jared checked his speed and slowed down, pulling over slightly to allow the two vehicles to pass without having to cross into the oncoming lane. There was nothing coming, but Jared had been driving these roads long enough to know it was better to be prudent than sorry.

Ahead the two emergency vehicles traveled around a bend in the road, and as Jared geared down to negotiate the same bend, he saw that both the police car and ambulance had stopped, lights still flashing, headlights blazing. Jared braked, thankful he wasn't going too fast. He keyed his hazard lights on and stopped behind the police car, noticing the officer had already placed a flare on the edge of the highway, which gave cars coming in the opposite direction a chance to slow down and stop.

Dawn had already begun along the horizon, the pink and gold threads of light tinting the sky and illuminating the tall deciduous trees that lined the road, forcing shadows to flicker across the blacktop, adding to the confusion of the scene ahead.

Jared could see a body in the road, the ambulance crew kneeling beside it. There was a man standing beside a car parked on the verge, another police officer questioning him. Without any real reason, Jared opened the door of his truck and slowly climbed down. He was never one of those men who slowed at the scene of an accident to get a look at the carnage. Throughout the years of driving, he'd seen enough and knew he could go the rest of his life without seeing any more, but something compelled him to get closer, to view the leather-jacketed, blond-headed, broken and bloodied body that lay as still as death upon the cold and hard ground.

"Fuck, no!"

Racing toward the kneeling ambulance crew, Jared tried to stop the terror that entered his heart, knowing he'd failed miserably as he felt his chest turn an icy cold and his limbs turn to lead. He fell at Kyle's side, ignoring the restrictive hand that locked around his arm.

"Hey, keep back; we need to get him stable." The hand gripping his arm pulled, but Jared resisted. He stared down at Kyle's deathly pale face, fearing what he'd see, terrified he would find no life, no warmth. Hands shaking, he reached out and stroked along Kyle's blood-streaked cheek, the skin so cold and clammy it caused Jared's heart to squeeze painfully. A half-strangled moan was ripped from his throat, a sound so anguished Jared instantly recognized it for what it was--a sound of grief. Closing his eyes, he bowed his head and was startled as he felt a cold hand steal over his.

"Jared?"

Unbelieving, he opened his eyes and drew in a sharp, shocked breath as startling blue eyes stared up at him.

"Kyle, oh fuck, Kyle!" Overwhelming relief flooded through Jared, making him feel lightheaded and sick at the same time. He couldn't help it. He gathered Kyle into his arms and pulled him close, forgetting the possibility that he could injure Kyle further and once again ignoring the protests of the medic who was trying to get Jared to move away.

It was Kyle's groan that had Jared releasing him and laying him back down on the road. "Where are you hurt?" he asked as he quickly checked up and down Kyle's prone body, noticing the smears of dirt and blood on his clothes and shuddering in response.

"Come on, mate. We're still checking him out." The gruff voice behind him and the pull on his arm forced Jared to turn around and face the man who had spoken.

"How bad is he?" Jared asked, flicking him a quick glance before returning his gaze to Kyle, who looked paler than before.

"We don't know yet. That's what we're trying to find out. So do you mind?"

"It's just my ankle and my chest." Kyle's optimistic enlightenment did nothing to ease Jared's mind.

"What happened?" Kyle closed his eyes for a moment, and fear dug agonizing fingers into Jared's heart. "Kyle?"

"Hit by a car," Kyle said, opening his eyes again, the blue in them dull and filled with something more than just pain.

Jared lifted his head to look at the man who was standing by the parked car, talking to the police. Anger flared deep, and he almost stood up in an act of confrontation, but a firm hand on his stopped him.

"Wasn't his fault." Kyle's whispered words were barely audible. Jared looked back down onto Kyle's white face.

"What were you doing here, Kyle?" It wasn't the question he wanted to ask, but it was close enough, and Kyle would know what he meant. But Kyle didn't answer. Or perhaps he did. His hand fell away, and he closed his eyes again, turning his face in the opposite direction. The same hurt and anger that had filled Jared earlier filled him again. Though the hurt was swift, sharp, and fierce, it quickly dissipated, leaving behind a dark, menacing ball of resentment that stewed below the surface, prevailing simply because Jared wouldn't let it go. He stood up and moved away, watching impassively as the paramedics worked on Kyle, lifted him onto a gurney, and loaded him into the back of the ambulance.

"Where are you taking him?" he asked just before one of the men climbed into the back after Kyle.

"The hospital on Dean Street. Do you know it?"

"No, but I'll find it."

The man paused before closing the door to the ambulance. "Do you want to go with him?"

Jared shook his head. "No." Then at the man's frown, he indicated his truck. "I can't." He needed to move it; the cops wouldn't take too kindly to him leaving it there.

The man nodded before a curious gaze settled on his. "He was calling out your name, just before you got here. Seems like he needs you." Then he closed the door, and within seconds the ambulance moved off, lights still flashing, the siren starting up again.

Without him wanting it to, his anger drained away to be replaced with confusion. Kyle had called out his name? Why, when it had been Kyle who had walked away? With no immediate answer, Jared returned to his truck, his mind numb, his body on automatic. He climbed inside but then just sat there, staring straight ahead, vaguely aware that the police officer was walking back to his car, clearing the way for Jared to move his truck, but Jared didn't think he could drive. Gripping the steering wheel, he felt his hands start to shake and his body grow cold, and with partial awareness he realized he was going into mild shock. Teeth chattering, Jared felt like a fool. He hadn't been injured, hadn't been hurt, but seeing Kyle like that... Tears suddenly blurred his vision, and unable to blink them away, Jared let them fall.

It took him several minutes to pull himself together, several minutes in which he began to think. Had he been wrong about Kyle? Could there have been a reason for Kyle to leave that he hadn't thought of? Not sure if he needed to find out, not sure he could handle finding out, Jared nevertheless fired up the engine and set the truck in gear. He couldn't just sit there; he had to do something. He had to get to the hospital. He had to see for himself that Kyle was going to be all right, but after that...?

Bright lights sent new pinpoints of pain into the backs of his eyes, fighting for dominance with the pain that already flooded the rest of his body. Kyle groaned and tried to put an arm over his eyes to block out the light, but his arm felt heavy, tied down. He tried to remember why, tried to think about what the pain meant, but his head seemed fuzzy, disjointed, as if it didn't belong to him.

Jared. He remembered Jared, remembered seeing his distraught face, his terror-stricken eyes. Why? What was wrong? What had happened? Confused, Kyle tried to lift his arm again, this time getting it to move but noticing as he did so that he was indeed tied down. No, not tied, attached--he was attached to something. Coordination only barely there, Kyle focused his gaze on his arm and fuzzily recognized the clear plastic tubing and needle stuck into his skin. A drip? He was on a drip? Why?

Then it all came back to him. The road, the car, the pain, the loss of consciousness before he came awake to see Jared kneeling over him, that look in his eyes. Jared. Fuck.

Kyle groaned again, but it wasn't from the pain in his body. God, what had he done? He closed his eyes against the feelings of shame and humiliation that stuck him with deep, relentless barbs. How could he have done that? How could he have left Jared like that? How the fuck had insecurities he'd thought long gone reared their ugly heads and made him risk losing something that could have been wonderful?

Could have been, Kyle acknowledged. Now he'd never know.

Pain in his body began to flare a little brighter, converging around his ankle and chest specifically. Struggling, Kyle looked down and saw his left ankle encased in a cast. He wriggled his toes experimentally and cursed all living hell at the sickening pain that hit him. Okay, don't do that again, he warned himself, conscious of the beads of sweat that dewed his skin. With his right hand, he probed his chest, felt bandages wrapped around it and a deep-seated ache he reckoned was from bruising and not broken ribs. Though knowing his ankle seemed to be the worst of his problems didn't seem to help, because he ached all over and he felt tired and listless, worn and damaged. His vision swam, and a headache started to form behind his eyes. Okay, maybe his ankle wasn't the worst of his problems. Fighting nausea and dizziness, Kyle closed his eyes and felt unconsciousness begin to creep in. Sleep or otherwise, it didn't matter. It would take away the pain, and so Kyle gave in, letting it take him.

When he woke, Kyle had the distinct feeling he was not alone. Struggling with disorientation, he tried to sit up and then thought better of it, instead turning his head to the side.

Jared sat slumped in a chair, arms crossed over his wide chest, longs legs straight out, eyes narrowed into slits, his mouth in a grim line. Shocked, Kyle stared at him, not quite believing Jared was there, yet feeling a profound sense of relief at the sight of him. He attempted a smile but wasn't sure if he'd succeeded, especially when Jared didn't smile back.

At a loss, he waited, unsure what to say, unsure if he could even start to say something that could repair what he'd done. Jared stared back, silent; however, his gold-flecked eyes spoke volumes, and Kyle was fully aware of what Jared was thinking. And what he was thinking didn't give Kyle any sense of hope. Slowly, though, Jared's mouth softened, and the glittering in his eyes softened with it, though by no means was he anywhere close to cracking a smile. He hauled himself out of the chair, arms now hanging loosely at his sides. He wore a soft pair of jeans and a black T-shirt that Kyle thought might have originally given Jared that menacing look, but the way Jared advanced toward him, Kyle decided the menace was all in Jared's body language.
