Nasty flashes of memory beat at her brain, but they no longer had any power. They could no longer hurt her. She had so many more positive experiences that overlaid the trauma that the fear was absent, the familiar spiral toward panic almost completely gone.

She lifted her legs, wrapping them around Kallum’s hips, grinning when he gave her a startled look that melted into one of pure pleasure. He moved faster, starting to pound into her the way Drew had done in the kitchen earlier. But this time, when her peak came and pleasure threw her into the abyss of pure sensation there were no tears, only love, and wonder, and a sense of peace she’d never believed possible.

Kallum held her close, murmuring words of love as she slowly came down from such an incredible high. Eventually he rolled off her, his grin widening when Drew rolled her onto her side and then reached for the lube.

The slippery pressure against her anus was strange, not quite painful but not very appealing either. She held still, trying to relax, remembering all the times she watched Drew and Kallum make love. She gasped when Kallum slid down the bed and took one of her nipples into his mouth, his tongue flicking over the hard peak, the sensation sending lightning bolts of pleasure to her clit, her ass pulsing in response. Drew pushed a single finger inside her back passage, the gentle invasion nudging all of her nerve endings to vivid life.

The second finger hurt more than she expected, but the gentle bite on her nipple distracted her, the strange pleasure-pain giving her a new understanding of the world and her own desires. She giggled as she pushed back, the needy response completely unexpected.

“That’s it, baby. Soon it’ll be my cock sliding into your ass.” Drew moved her closer to Kallum, urging her to rest her head on his chest and her knee over his legs. It opened her wide, her ass and pussy throbbing as she imagined the sight she made for Drew.

He wriggled his fingers inside her ass, the muscles seeming to loosen, accepting his invasion more easily, her anus opening to his attentions. She was pushing back, unable to control her own responses when he removed his fingers. She whimpered at the loss, uncertain how to fill her incredible need.

“Just relax,” Drew said as he rolled her fully onto her stomach. Kallum made room for her to be comfortable and then lay down at her side once more.

“You’re going to love this,” Kallum said as Drew’s cock, slippery with lube, pressed against her back passage.

He took his time, driving her pleasure higher as he eased in a little, pulled back, and then gently pushed in a little deeper, his cock seeming to drag against nerve endings she’d never really noticed before. Finally he pushed to the hilt, his cock deep in her ass, his moan of arousal sending an echo of his pleasure through her as well.

He held still, letting her adjust, waiting for the incredible pleasure that Kallum had once told her about. Slowly the feeling changed, the slight discomfort melting into something more beautiful than she had words to describe. Drew groaned, starting to move inside her, pulling away only to thrust back in, his own need seeming to override his control.

She tightened her muscles around him, deliberately squeezing his cock.

“Baby,” he said on a gasping breath, “don’t do that.”

“Why not?” she asked in a voice that she hoped made it clear that she knew exactly what she was doing.

“Because I can barely hold back now.”

“Don’t hold back,” she said, feeling the last of her fear melt away. “I love you. I trust you, and I want you to fuck me hard.”

He made a strangled noise, apparently looking to Kallum for reassurance. Kallum studied her face for a moment, nodded to his husband, and then smiled widely when Drew began to move faster.

“We love you,” he said as Drew started thrusting harder, moving faster, cramming his cock into her ass as pleasure overwhelmed her.

She opened her mouth to reply, but a scream caught her by surprise, the lusty, needy sound filling the room as Drew groaned and moved even faster. His weight pushed her deeper into the mattress, her clit rubbing against the bedding each time he pushed forward, the snap and sizzle of nerve endings suddenly exploding into movement. Unable to stop her orgasm, Ally went with it, gasping as Drew’s cock started to throb inside her, his movements faltering as he filled her with his seed.

He jolted several more times, finally falling forward to cover her, his large body surrounding her, trapping her against the mattress. She should have been frightened. She should have been freaking out. This position was almost an exact replica of what had happened soon after Alex had been born, and according to everything she’d ever read about trauma, should have triggered that unexpected fear that lurked within her mind waiting to ensnare her once more.

But despite the similarities, Ally knew in her heart and her mind exactly where she was and precisely who she was with.

And felt nothing but peace.

Chapter Eight

Ally watched her baby boy interact with men who loved him, loved her, and loved each other. A part of her wondered how she’d become so lucky to find such a perfect family, but an even larger part was just willing to grasp it while she had the chance.

Her young son currently sat on Kallum’s lap, Drew beside them as the three of them read a book together. Alex’s current contribution seemed to be an attempt to eat the electronic reader, but Kallum easily avoided disaster and managed to draw her son’s attention back to the colorful pictures and large-print Desconian words.

“I should learn to read Desconian,” she whispered as Drew held his hand out to her and pulled her onto the sofa.

“They didn’t teach you in the compound?” Kallum asked, sounding more than a little shocked.

“They don’t,” Drew said to his husband. “Most of the classes are run by human volunteers, so they spend most of their time trying to help fill in the gaps of the new arrivals’ education. I suppose the assumption is that with the advanced translation matrixes available now, if they’re at least able to read one language it should be enough to get them through everyday life.”

“But it won’t do me any good when my son needs help with his homework.”

“Probably not,” Kallum agreed, still looking concerned. “Drew and I plan to always be here to help, but it would be a good idea for you to learn as well.” He looked thoughtful for a few moments. “We were going to buy Alex the early reading system for his first birthday, but there’s no harm in getting it early. I don’t think this little guy will mind if his mom plays with his gifts first.”

“Birthday?” Ally asked, feeling a little ill. Technically she knew what a birthday was. She just had no idea when hers or Alex’s were. At the time of Alex’s birth, protecting them both had seemed more important than taking note of the day.

“It’s okay, Ally. Most of the human refugees don’t know their birthday either. Do you know the Earth date Alex was born?”

She shook her head as tears filled her eyes. She knew from the ancient TV series from Earth they’d been watching that humans had once celebrated their birthdays, but she hadn’t really related that back to Desconian traditions.

Drew pulled her into his embrace. “It’s okay, baby,” he said, rocking her slightly. “We don’t need to know the exact day. Descon has longer days and fewer weeks in a year than Earth, so the translation is always just an approximation anyway. We’ll pick a day and celebrate it every year.”

She nodded in agreement.

“Is there such a thing as adoption on Descon?”

“Of course,” Drew said with a wide smile. Perhaps he’d already considered the same thing. The idea had been brewing ever since she’d heard of the concept on the TV series from Earth.

“Alex already thinks of you two as his fathers. Would it cost a lot of money to make it official?”

“No,” Kallum said, smiling widely also. “In fact, I think with the recent changes in law that it’s easier than ever. There have been a lot of unaccompanied children in the last few refugee ships. There are stringent rules in finding adoptive parents for them, but once approved the process is quite simple.”

“Will we have to comply with those rules?” Ally asked, feeling worried. Ever since Alex’s birth her biggest fear had been that someone might try to take him away. Arriving on a planet where children were desperately wanted hadn’t alleviated that fear at all. She was more than happy to have Kallum and Drew be officially listed as Alex’s fathers. That way she’d know he was safe and loved if something happened to her, but she wasn’t willing to let anyone else be his mother. Alex was her son, and she would spend the rest of her life loving and protecting him, no matter what.

“No, sweetheart,” Drew said, running his hand up and down her arm as she shivered slightly. “Alex has a parent capable of making decisions on his behalf. It should simple up the process.”

“So you’ll be his official fathers?” she asked excitedly.

“If that’s what you want.”

“It’s definitely what I want.”

“Perfect,” Drew said as he pulled her closer. “I’ll make a few calls and get the pa—”

Drew’s words cut off as he glanced up at the newsfeed on the communication screen. The volume was turned down, but the pictures looked frightening.

Ally felt his sudden tension and held her breath as Drew grabbed the remote control and turned up the sound. Some of the words were beyond her comprehension, but the ones she did understand made her shake. “Everyone is dead?” she finally asked as footage of a planet shown from several angles appeared on the screen.

“I’m sorry, baby,” Kallum said as he moved closer, the three adults embracing with Alex in the middle. Almost as if he understood the importance of the moment, Alex stayed quiet, clinging to the adults who made him feel safe.

Drew watched the footage over and over, barely able to comprehend the massive loss of life. Seventeen billion human lives gone in an instant. The news was full of speculation and theories, but whatever had happened on the planet Earth—war, pollution, doomsday devices—the result was that it had destroyed the ozone layer completely. Without that protection the planet and everything on it had died almost instantly. There was no one to rescue. No aid to offer. No sanctuary to give.

Everyone and everything that had been on planet Earth at the time was gone.

Drew held his lovers closer, aching for billions of strangers he’d never known and a man he’d hoped one day to meet. Ally had told them so much about David that Drew almost felt like he’d known the man. He pressed a kiss to Ally’s forehead, and then held his family close as they mourned the loss together.

Chapter Nine

Kallum smiled sadly when he saw Jenelle. The news that several more refugee ships had been on their way to Descon before the tragic events on Earth had been welcomed by many. The sad part was that most were hoping that the people they cared for were on the ships. Considering that the survivors were several thousand out of billions, it was very unlikely.

Still, until there was none, it was Desconian nature to hope.

“How many?” he asked, knowing that Jenelle would already have spoken to Katarnia, the Desconian Royal Guard in charge of new refugee arrivals to this planet.

“Between the four ships—3,709. They have men, women, and children aboard.” She gave him a sad smile. “And ironically several breeding pairs of Australian koalas.”

“What are they?” he asked as it finally occurred to him that humans weren’t the only species to have lost their home planet.

“I only ever saw them in books,” Jenelle said with an overly bright smile. “They were a species on the verge of extinction even when I was a kid. They were being transported to a planet several more light years from Descon in the hopes that they could rebuild the population before reintroducing them into what was left of Earth’s habitat, but the humans who were traveling with them have applied for asylum on Descon for them and their koalas.”

“Do you think they’ll be able to stay?”

“I suspect so,” Jenelle said. “Even now the lawmakers are talking about relaxing the refugee laws for humans. With the ships no longer coming they don’t really need the stringent laws put in place over a year ago. Rather ironic for me, wouldn’t you say?”

Kallum smiled as Jenelle’s husband, Baylen, wrapped his arms protectively around her and her other two husbands came over to join them. Jenelle had initially refused Baylen’s, Tosh’s, and Jax’s declarations of love, only letting them marry her temporarily to avoid being deported from Descon. The men had let her believe she was entering a marriage of convenience in the hopes of pinning her down long enough for Jenelle to realize that they really did love her.

Fortunately, the woman had finally accepted that even though she was unable to give them children, Jax, Tosh, and Baylen loved her regardless. Tosh’s research into in vitro fertilization had been the catalyst for the work Kallum and Tosh were doing now.

“How is Galeena?” Kallum asked, smiling as he thought of the experimental procedure that had, so far, been more successful than they’d hoped.

“Doing well,” Jenelle said with genuine affection. It was true that hers and Galeena’s friendship had gotten off to a rocky start, but they’d found a way to get along and these days—with what was essentially a shared pregnancy—were closer than most sisters.
