Stepping closer to him, she decided it was now or never. She was going to give them a second chance and hopefully he would accept it.

“Come with me,” she said with a fresher mind. She took his hand and led him up the stairs. “Do you trust me now?” she asked as she stalled quickly and turned to him. “Do you trust me that I’m not as drunk as you seem to think I am?”

“Yes,” he gave her a monosyllable response, but the conviction in it spoke louder than the word itself.

Amber nodded, bit her lip and then carried on up the stairs. She could feel him behind her, following each and every one of her steps carefully, his eyes burning into her back with anticipation. She walked back into the bedroom and placed her hands behind her back so she could unclasp her bra. As she slipped the strap down, she felt Ethan stand flush against her back and place his hand on hers and help her remove the bra entirely.

Having her now nearly naked, he swept her hand to the side and watched her head fall with it so he could kiss her neck. He wasn’t going to let this moment go this time. This was do or die right now. He spun her around and ran his hand up her jaw until he was cupping the back of her head, supporting it in her palm as he ignited a newer kiss between them.

She elicited a small moan before pulling away, her eyes devilish and sensual. “Take a shower with me.”

Ethan only nodded as he let her go. He watched her go to the doorway of the bathroom, her hand flat on the switch as she turned the light on and he couldn’t stop himself from gazing at her perfect arse in her knickers as she pushed them down her body. Now that she was entirely naked, he couldn’t walk away again.

Stripping out of
his own clothes, he followed her footsteps again and found her dousing herself under the shower. The water was pouring down her body, running the natural curves of her body and he felt his erection stiffen more than ever.

Amber stopped pushing the water back over her head for a moment and looked out of the shower door to see Ethan. She bit her lip and watched as he came towards her. Everything was falling into place for once. She was finally enjoying fate’s help to get them here.

Climbing under the water, Ethan pulled her close to him and continued one of the many kisses that never reached their appropriate end. He had so many half-finished kisses with Amber he felt it was time they really felt the love they felt for one another.

Amber felt like she was in a whirlwind, there seem to be barely any time between Ethan kissing her and him filling her with his size. It all felt so perfect. She had never felt this whole in her entire life. As he withdrew and thrust back into her, she let out a gasp, the water still pouring down around them, Ethan’s hands on her body, keeping her standing.

“Ethan,” she managed a small murmur and willed her eyes to open and look at him.

Shh,” he answered back, working faster to reach the pinnacle of perfection. There were no disruptions; absolutely no reason to believe their relationship was now in tatters. The way she spoke his name purred him on. He could feel her getting close to giving in and if he had it his way he would steal more than just this orgasmic moment with her.

She ran her hand into his hair and gripped as the orgasm ripped through her, stealing her every breath from her, making her lose her mind completely. She knew her sanity had gone down the drain with the shower water, but there was no way she could compare this moment or replace it with another.

Especially when he came and her name left his lips in such a way it made her heart blossom beyond any measure.

Pinned against the wall, ruined entirely by an earth shattering orgasm she looked into Ethan’s eyes. His gaze was strongly set on hers, his lips parted with his bated breath and she melted into the happiest smile she had felt in what had to be a lifetime. “It really has always been you.”

Carefully, without letting her go, Ethan turned the shower off and pulled her from the small space. Standing in the opening, he wrapped her body with a towel, using it as another reason to hold her close.

Bowing her head Amber let the wet hair drop against her skin. "I don't deserve you."

Lifting her chin, he surprised her with a kiss and she forgot all regret that was lingering on her mind. She pushed against his torso, back against the white tiled wall behind them. Ethan groaned as the cold tile hit his back, but he let Amber assault him.

She kissed across his chest, down his sternum and ran her tongue along the ridges of his muscles. Kneeling on the floor before him she took him in her mouth and he let her work against his length, as she played and toyed with him with her tongue. Feeling himself build again, he pulled her by her shoulders and lifted her over to the bed. Even though they were both still soaking wet from their shower, Ethan unravelled the towel from Amber and laid it flat beneath her. Kissing all over her body, he slowly sunk into her again, and Amber couldn't deny the ecstasy flowing through her veins. Slow kisses kept their tongues working against each other, as he slowly took her again, but this time he was making sweet love to her, making her remember what they could be. Kissing and biting at her earlobe, Ethan groaned as she dug her nails into his back and ran them across his shoulder blades.

He didn't care if he was bleeding. Her panting breaths were shallow and deep as he made her moan with pleasure every time he hit her sensitive nerves deep inside her. Fuelling with each other's releases, Ethan made love to her; to the woman he had wanted for the past five years. She was his. He could never deny the love for her, the need for her.

"Ethan," Amber breathed before she felt herself release and gave in to the orgasm consuming her. He was leaving her, he was going to London. She would be alone. Forcing herself to stay awake, Amber knew she had to savour this moment for as long as possible.

Falling asleep with his arms wrapped around the love of his life, Ethan dreamt of a life without any more complications, where it would just be him and Amber, forever.

Chapter Eleven

Waking with a jolt, Amber lay with her heart racing, trying to make an escape from its caged captivity. She felt a hand run around her side; it had been so long since she felt anything remotely close to it and she had woken terrified for a moment.

The moment she saw Ethan sound asleep before her, she smiled sleepily, loving the sight of him. She wanted it to be like this forever. She wanted to always wake up to this sight, to always feel this adorned in love. The feeling of impending doom was slowly building in her and she panicked that this moment wouldn’t last long.

Swallowing hard, she squashed that notion and revelled in the early morning sight before her. After last night, this was pure, unadulterated heaven bestowed upon her.

Reaching out to him, she had to touch him. She had to make sure this wasn’t a mirage, a beautiful hallucination as a result of one too many birthday cocktails. When her fingertips grazed across his soft cheek, she let out the breath she had been holding onto and felt her eyes water. It really happened. It finally happened and he was still here with her the morning after.

In the quietness, she drank in the sight of Ethan and didn’t move more than her arm. Pulling away from him, he mumbled something in his sleep and took his hand off of her side to grab her leaving hand. He kissed her knuckles and settled back into her slumber.

Amber sighed. How could this be any more perfect?

"Amber!" Connor's voice floated up the stairs. His voice was followed by the slamming of the door, the house shaking in effect and shattering Amber’s blissful state along with it.

Feeling her eyes widen, Amber couldn't believe Ethan continued to sleep. Well, they had sex a fair few times, but that didn’t mean anything. She was awake and watching the room close in on her as she heard the first creaky step of the stairs sound out. With just that noise, panic rose like bile in her throat. Fuck, she wasn’t in heaven anymore. This was rapidly turning into a massive mess. Shaking Ethan awake, she covered his mouth to shut him up, his eyes looking at her in horror and she shushed him.

"Connor's out there," she whispered barely audibly, the panic shining beautifully in her eyes. "I need to go to him. I'll distract him so you can leave." She looked at him sympathetically and kissed him on the lips purposefully. Her heart was sealed now. It was pumping a delightful beat in Ethan's hands now. She just prayed he knew that. "I'm sorry. I will sort this."

He watched her jump up, dress in her crinkled pyjamas and head for the door.

Turning back to him, she looked saddened suddenly. “I really do love you, Ethan.” It was all she said before leaving entirely and closing it behind her to keep his presence unknown to Connor. Taking the moment slowly, he could hear Connor getting closer to her, but Ethan dressed himself as quietly as possible. Ignoring the pounding of
his own heart. He even tried to deny the feeling of his own wounds cracking open again across the surface of his heart. Once he was fully clothed he looked around for somewhere to hide. There was nowhere, and he knew he had one escape route and very little time.

Opening the window, Ethan clambered out, holding on tightly. As the door began to open he froze and he was glad he had as the conversation took a new turn and Connor stood blocking the gap with his back. Ethan held on as he listened to the conversation. He clung onto the windowsill allowing curiosity to grip him and ultimately weaken him.

"I can't wait. I thought I could but I can't," Connor spoke up, releasing the door handle and reaching into his pocket. "Will you marry me, Amber Watson?" Connor's voice resonated up the stairway and into every room in this house.

Ethan didn't stand a chance to hear the response as his palms became slick with sweat and he lost his grip entirely. He fell from the terrace on the house and onto the bush below with a painful impact. As he lay there winded he didn't know what hurt him more - his heart or his body.

Had he just lost the girl of his dreams forever? Slowly, he started to clamber to his feet, Ethan ran painfully from the front garden and walked home, ignoring his car and just focused on covering the distance between his house and Amber's.

He didn’t know if she had said yes or no, but he sure felt like he had lost her already.

Why would she pick him over Connor Pearce – the entrepreneur, the hot shot, the guy that would make up for not being there on her birthday?

Amber was going to be putty in his hand again and there was nothing Ethan could do about it except watch as the carnage unfolded in his sanity.

"No, no, now wait-" Pushing away from Connor, she wandered back into her bedroom and pulled on her dressing gown. "You don't get to come here and propose to me when you missed my fucking birthday. You're lucky you're still even in my house right now."

Reaching for her, Amber pushed his hand away.

"Amber, I came here to propose to you, my train got delayed, then my phone died, it was a nightmare for me yesterday." Sighing Connor sat down on the bed. "I just wanted to make your birthday incredible, and yet here I am breaking you down some more. I'm so sorry, Amber." Leaning his elbows on his knees, he dropped his head in his hands.

"Don't make me feel sorry for you, Connor, you missed my birthday." Standing to his feet he pushed her against the wardrobe.

"Don't you think I feel all the guilt for that now? I can't imagine how horrible it was for you yesterday without me."

"Let me go," Amber protested. Seeing him now, she remembered why she loved him. He was boisterous with her, adventurous and she loved that side of him. But, she was still angry at him,
even if it wasn't on purpose. Ethan floated through her veins, the feel of him in her made her look down at the bed and back up to the sorry looking eyes staring at her. "You missed it, you didn't even call me in the morning. You know Ethan called me bang on midnight, how does that make you feel? You could have called me then. You promised you'd be here Con, you promised." Feeling her knees break beneath her she fisted at the floor as she fell to it, cutting her knuckles slightly.

"Amber? Are you okay?" Connor asked falling to the floor with her and pulling her into his lap. Feeling the tears come unbidden to her eyes, she didn't want to feel this pain anymore. She had fallen into Ethan and it felt like a stranger was holding her, but she didn't want to hurt Connor. She didn't know what to do. She loved him.

"I've lost you haven't I?" Connor asked pushing her off his lap and jumping to his feet. "That's it isn't it? Five years of us, pushed away, gone because I missed one day, unintentionally might I add, and you're here making me feel like I've done the worst thing in the world. I even bought you a ring Amber. I bought you a ring," he repeated and walked out of the bedroom. Stopping in his tracks as he reached the top of the stairs he stormed back into the bedroom and pulled Amber to her feet. Locking eyes with her, he kissed his whole world and she became a frozen feature in front of him. "Kiss me back Amber, please."

She let her lips work with his, and the feeling she got made her
wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him back. She had missed him, what had she done?

"I have to go back soon," Connor spoke up as they ate through a home cooked meal. Pushing the peas around her plate, Amber nodded and looked up to smile at him. "Talk to me Ambi." Looking up at him she tilted her head to the side.
