represented the gay community in general.

“Do they give you a hard time?” he asked once he was able to

stop laughing. “The straight agents?”

“Nah. We’re damn good at what we do and everybody knows

it. They don’t dare mess with us.”

“That’s great.” Mac was relieved to hear that. “Did you always

want to join the FBI?”

“Yes. In order to get there I joined the force first and attended

college while I was in uniform.” Sam’s eyes became distant. “I

was married back then… don’t want to talk about it.”

“Fair enough.”

“What about you?” Sam asked, smiling politely at their waitress

when she came back with their appetizers and waiting for her to

take their order and leave before resuming their conversation.

“What’s the story with the friend you came out to?”

“His name is Remy.” Mac bit on a Crab Rangoon from the

combination platter they’d ordered, rolling his eyes in ecstasy,

doing his best to hide how elated he was from having Sam show

some interest in his life and friends. That was definite progress.

With luck and some time, he should be able to talk to Sam about

his family, and especially the twins. He loved them more than

anything in the world, and needed to be able to share that with

Sam.

“Good?”

“This is amazing!” Sam was busy making his own choice from

the platter, but that didn’t stop Mac from pretty much shoving

the rest of his own appetizer under his guy’s nose. “You gotta try

it.” There was no pause or awkwardness in the way Sam opened

his mouth and let Mac feed him. “Anyway. He’s an awesome

dude. He’s a chef and thinks he’s straight.”

“Thinks?” Sam swallowed. “You’re right, that’s delicious.”

“He’s got the biggest crush on this one guy, but because he

ain’t attracted to any other males he’s convinced himself he can’t

be queer.”

“What an idiot.” Sam shook his head and decided to try the

iced shrimp rémoulade, only biting half of it so that he could

feed the rest to Mac.

“That’s what I say.” Mac chewed slowly. “Hmm… Not bad,

but I’ve had better.” He chose an egg roll next, and the whole,

eat half, feed the rest to his guy process was repeated. “Did I tell

you I came out to Brax?”

“No, you didn’t.” Sam already knew Braxton was as much a

friend as he was Mac’s boss. “I don’t care too much for the egg

roll… what do you wanna try next?”

“The cheese thing.”

“I think they’ve mushrooms and ham…” He chose one and

fed Mac before trying it himself. “So what happened with Brax?”

“He wasn’t surprised. At all.” He flashed a mocking smile.

“Turns out all those years of me behavin’ like a big, bad breeder

didn’t fool him for a second, but he understood I needed to come

out on my own terms and time.” He finished his drink and looked

around for their waitress so that he could order a second round.

“Welcomed me to the dark side by takin’ us out to dinner, and

then surprised the shit out of us by lettin’ me and Remy know

he’s making us partners in the New York venture.” Although

he didn’t have an actual college degree, Mac had taken several

business and finance classes that helped him tremendously when

it came to managing his own investments and the bar. His family

didn’t know about it, but he’d told Sam. “Which reminds me,

I’m comin’ to your neck of the woods in early September for

business. If you want to stop by one night you’ll be more than

welcome, but know I’m still planning on gettin’ our agreed two

nights later on.”

“I’ll think about it,” was what Sam said, but I’ll be there with

lube and condoms was what his tone implied. “Here, try the

Nams and let me know how they are. Don’t wanna eat it if the

garlic sauce is too spicy.”

“You’re such a wuss.” He opened his mouth and let Sam feed

him.

“Would a wuss let you bury your fat cock deep in his hole?”

Every drop of blood in Mac’s body rushed to his prick, giving

him the biggest, hardest, quickest erection of his life.

Sam was ready to bottom for him. He’d hinted at it a few

times in the past week, and it’d been pure torture to not react.

Under different circumstances, Mac would have been buried

balls deep in Sam the second he got the go from the guy, but it

wouldn’t be right to do it yet. Not until he’d been totally honest.

Only after they’d cleared up a few things would Mac be able to

accept what, to him, was a precious gift.

He leaned forward and kissed the guy. “We’ll see when the

time comes.”

After a fabulous dinner of Mahi Mahi and a few drinks, the

two sat back and enjoyed the floor show of dancers and fire

eaters. And before leaving for the night they walked quietly along

the path that took them through the amazing tropical garden

the restaurant seemed to be as famous for as they were for their

show and food. The air smelled of flowers, and the tiki torches

strategically placed here and there throughout the flowery maze

gave the place a romantic and intimate ambience that was ideal

for soft conversation and stolen kisses. They did both.

As far as first dates went, Mac couldn’t have asked for a

better one. Everything about it was perfect, and by the time they

returned to their hotel Mac knew there wasn’t a damn thing he

wouldn’t do to keep this man for himself.

New York City

Besitos, a Mexican restaurant and bar located in the Village,

was hopping when Logan managed to get there around ten

o’clock. Usually a busy spot, it was almost impossible to get a

table without a reservation on a Saturday night. Their tacos were

good, but the Margaritas and top shelf tequila were even better,

something he knew from prior visits. There was a reason why his

friend Adam had chosen to throw his birthday party here, and

although superior, the quesadillas and guacamole were not it.

A cute young waiter escorted him to one of the private rooms

located in the back of the restaurant, and he lingered for a few

minutes at the door, taking everything in. There seemed to be

at least a hundred bodies inside, with Adam front and center

surrounded by a Mariachi. He had a Mexican hat on and one

arm around someone’s shoulders, the drink in his hand spilling

a little. With his other hand he held a microphone, and seemed

to be oblivious to the world while he belted out what had to be

the most off key, linguistically challenged rendition of Cielito

Lindo Logan had ever heard. But the moment the song finished

he clapped and whistled along with the other guests.

“Ohhh eeem geee, everybody! It’s my friend Logan!” Adam

said on the microphone, pointing at the door with his drink and

spilling some more on the floor. “Say hi to him!”

A rambunctious chorus of “Hi Logan” followed his friend’s

request, and Logan was relieved when the music started and

people stopped paying attention to him.

Adam put the microphone down and ran to the door. Logan

met him halfway and pecked him on the lips, then returned his

friend’s tight hug.

“Happy Birthday, babe!” When Adam let him go, Logan

presented a big, artfully wrapped box to him. “This is for you.”

“You have no idea how happy I am you were able to make it.

I missed you the past two years!” Adam’s eyes were a little misty

and Logan thought he might get emotional as well. It sucked that

sometimes he had to work so much.

“I told you I was going to do my best, didn’t I?” He almost

hadn’t made it, though. After two fucked up days, he’d been close

to staying home and getting some much needed rest. He hugged

Adam again, smiled, and tapped the huge Mexican hat with his

index finger. “Had I known you were planning on letting your

inner Vicente Fernandez loose I would have taken longer getting

here, though. That was awful!”

“Oh, shut up. You’re just jealous because my Spanish is so

much better than yours.” They both laughed and Adam took a

good look at his friend. “You look fantastic. Not clubbing gear,

but not serious suit either, and you’re wearing you’re eyebrow

and lip rings. You look nothing like the boring FBI agent tonight.

Love it!”

“Thanks, babe.”

Logan was damn tired, but he was hoping the dark gray eye

shadow and black eyeliner he’d applied would conceal that.

Another body had been found in Maryland in the early hours

of Friday morning, and Duncan, Bobbie, and himself had flown

there to check things out. It was supposed to be a quick trip,

but they’d run into some interference from the local police and

ended up staying overnight as a result.

Once they’d gotten clearance and their jurisdiction

emphatically established, they’d spent a good part of their

Saturday looking for, collecting, and documenting evidence, and

after the bureau’s plane had finally landed in NYC he’d already

been running an hour late for the party.

He’d stopped by his apartment to get ready, and after a quick

shower and a phone call to Sasha to make sure he was okay, he’d

thrown on his usual black pants, Doc Marten calf high boots,

and a white shirt and rushed out his door.

“You look gorgeous, as usual,” he told his friend.

“Right?” Adam spun around and laughed. “Let’s hope that

hottie over there thinks so, too.” He glanced over his shoulder at

a twink standing by the bar. Adam liked his guys on the young

side. “You know I have to mingle but please, stay for a while

and have fun? Maybe hook up with some young, hot thing and

take him home with you? It’d be fabulous if you had some juicy

details of a sexual nature to share with me when we catch up

later.”

Like that was ever going to happen.

Logan was so not attracted to young and hot. Manly and on

the mature side was more his type. Show him a strong, preferably

thirtyish, well groomed butch and he might consider it. His job

and many personal issues didn’t really allow for him to be in a

relationship, but it’d be cool to find someone his type that would

be willing to put up with his kinks and play along.

“Come on, babe!” Adam grabbed his hand and pulled him

into the room, stopping by a small table to leave his present with

several others before dragging him further in. “There are a lot

of interesting people to meet, and of course the few you already

know and should say hi to, but I’m sure you’ll be happier hanging

out with them.” Adam finally stopped in front of a table all the

way in the back “Hey guys! You wouldn’t mind some company,

would you?”

“Absolutely not!” answered Gabriela Moreau, hugging Logan

and moving to the side so that Christian could do the same.

“Thanks for bringing him over, Adam,” Chris smiled. “I was

about to go get him myself.”

“It’s so nice to see you again, Gabi.” Logan smiled at the girl,

then at his friend. “Thank you, Adam. I’ll see you later.”

“Have fun!” As soon as Adam turned around Chris took both

of Logan’s hands in his and stepped back with an appreciative

shine in his blue eyes “My my, don’t you look delicious. I loved

you in that suit you were wearing when I first met you, and even

348 Taylor V. Donovan

the jeans and t-shirts I’ve seen you in every other time we’ve been

out are pretty damn sexy too, but this is…wow.”

Logan rolled his eyes, smiling a little. He never took

compliments well. “Please, it’s not all that.”

“Says you!” teased Christian. They’d become good friends,

often meeting for coffee, a drink, and even karaoke. “Come on,

take a seat and have a drink with us.”

Seconds after Logan sat down between Gabi and Christian a

waiter came over to take his drink order and give him the menu,

but the waiter’s full attention was on Gabi. He was smiling at her

like a love bitten teenager, and perhaps because she felt flattered

by the attention or because she was a bit tipsy, Gabi decided to

flirt a little with him. Poor guy was tripping over his words by the

time Logan decided he wanted to have guacamole with his chips.

But seriously, who could blame him? The boy clearly had

good taste. Gabi was gorgeous and had an equally attractive

personality. He could see why Sam was still all tied up in knots

over the way their marriage had ended years ago. It had to be

tough to hurt someone as sweet as she was.

But hey, at least he was away with a guy he liked.

Four days so far, and though Sam had texted Logan to let him

know he was going to pay for that choice of accommodations

with his life, he hadn’t booked a different room or tried to come

back to New York. He wasn’t backing out, which meant some
