“It don't matter what he got going on.” London rolled her neck. “You have a great dude in your life, who loves your ass to pieces. I'm team J.R. all the way.”
“He is pretty wonderful, isn't he?” Farrah blushed as her phone rang. “Speak of the devil. Let me take this y'all. I'll be right back and don't start eating without me,” she yelled over her shoulder, walking outside.
“Hello?” she answered sweetly.
“What's up, pretty girl?” J.R. spoke in a raspy tone.
“Hi, my baby,” Farrah said, beaming. “How are you?”
“Tired than a muthafucka,” J.R. yawned. “This tour is kicking my ass.”
“Where are you at tonight? What state?” she asked, feeling bad that he sounded so exhausted.
“We're on our way to Atlanta, Georgia. What you up to?” J.R. gazed out the tour bus window.
“Having lunch with my girls.”
“That's what's up. How did everything go?” He referred to her divorce.
“It went well. Everything's done,” Farrah said after a pause.
“How are you feeling? You a'ight?” he asked out of genuine concern.
“Yeah, I'm fine,” she replied. “I'm just happy that the whole chapter of my life is behind me now.”
“Me too,” J.R. laughed.
“Shut up,” Farrah laughed too. “I miss you,” she said, seriously. “It's been forever since we last saw each other.”
“I know,” J.R. sighed. “But I'ma be there soon. You're all mine when I get there.”
“I sure as hell am. I want you to fuck this pussy up baby! And I can't wait to taste your dick, boo. You gonna have that chocolate ready for me?” Farrah joked. She had never been the type to talk nasty to any man she'd ever been with, but with J.R. she could say and act any way she wanted. There was no holding back between them and she loved that about their relationship. He brought out sides to her she never even knew existed, including that extra- freaky side of her.
“You stupid, man,” J.R. bugged up laughing. “But listen babe, I gotta go. I'ma let you get back wit' your girls. Have fun.”
“Okay.” Farrah pouted, not wanting to get off the phone.
“I love you,” J.R. spoke.
Farrah's heart skipped a beat hearing him say this. For months she'd wondered why he never said it to her, so she'd been wondering if J.R. felt that way for her. To hear him say that he loved her sent her over the moon, but for some reason she hesitated to say it back. It was like she was too afraid to say it.
“Okay babe, the girls are calling me back to the table. I'll talk to you later.” She rushed him off of the phone.

J.R. was really thrown off with the way Farrah rushed him off the phone. He had just said to her the three words that women are always dying to hear from a man. Telling somebody he loved them was no easy task for J.R. There had been only three women he had ever said that to in his life and that was his mother, his first love, and now Farrah.
He had really fucked up with his first love by cheating on her left and right. He was young, dumb, and horny so he was getting pussy from anybody who offered. When his girl found this out she left him and never looked back. J.R. was hurt by all this, but it helped him grow. He eventually realized he was dead wrong for treating her like that and he made a vow that the next woman to have his heart would be his last and he would love, honor, and respect her the way she deserved. And being that he had fallen in love with Farrah, he didn't have time to be playing games with her.
He wanted to call her back and ask her straight up if she loved him, but on the other hand he was struggling hard to give her the benefit of the doubt that she really did have to get back to her girlfriends. He decided to let it be for now. He'd give her another opportunity to tell him she loved him. For now, he was just gonna let it go and get some rest. He was gonna need it if he was gonna put on a helluva concert tonight.
Chapter 22
I told her baby you can spend the night.
-Lil Twist, “By the End of the Night”

Dr. Keiffer's office was swarming with parents and their rambunctious children. Some kids were sick, others were playing on the floor with toys, some were crying or sleeping. Jade had a massive headache; Jaysin wouldn't stop crying. No amount of patting her on the back or bouncing her up and down soothed her. Jade's appointment time was at 1:00 and it was now a half an hour later and she hadn't been seen.
It didn't make it any better that Jaysin was there to get her shots, which would result in even more crying. It also didn't help that Mills was supposed to meet her there and hadn't shown up yet. He was late as usual. Jade was over it. For months he'd been playing a back-and-forth game of acting as if he was all in, to then distance himself from her.
She didn't understand him. She'd put it out there on several occasions that she loved and wanted him. He'd come over, spend time with her and the baby, take her out, have sex with her, and show affection, but wouldn't fully commit to a relationship. Whenever she pressed the issue he'd get mad and say he was going through a lot and needed some time. Jade tried to be understanding and patient because he was going through a divorce, but he couldn't continue to spoon-feed her doses of hope. She wanted all of him, not half. There was no way in hell she was going to go from being the main chick to being reduced to the side chick.
“Oh my god, Jaysin will you please stop crying.” She placed her up on her daughter's shoulder and massaged her back.
Jade needed an aspirin and a cocktail ASAP.
“Sorry I'm late.” Mills rushed in.
Jade didn't even respond. Instead, she rolled her eyes.
“Here, get your daughter. She won't stop crying.” Jade handed her to him.
“Why haven't you been seen yet? I thought your appointment was at one?”
“It was. Dr. Keiffer is runnin' behind,” Jade responded with an attitude.
“What's wrong wit' you?” Mills whispered so no one else could hear their conversation.
“My head hurts.” Jade massaged her temple. “And I can never rely on your ass,” she snapped.
“What the fuck you talkin' about? I'm here ain't I?”
“Yeah, when you got good and damn ready. I'm sick of everything being on your time.”
“You can't be this mad because I'm a few minutes late. What is this about? 'Cause after the day I've had I ain't got time for a bunch of back-and-forth shit with you today?” Mills shot back.
“You ain't got time?” Jade turned and looked at him angrily.
“I swear you are so fuckin' self-centered.” Jade shook her head. “It's all about you and your feelings. Fuck everybody else, right? Where were you?”
“For your information, I was late 'cause I was at my lawyer's office finalizing my fuckin' divorce.”
Jade paused and let his words seep in. Mills was a free man. He was all hers. Farrah was no longer standing between them being together. If she wouldn't look like a complete fool, Jade would jump for joy and do the running man right in the middle of the waiting room. She had to play it cool, though.
“Mmm . . .” Jade crossed her legs. “So what now?”
“I don't know. You tell me.” Mills rocked Jaysin in his arms.
She had finally calmed down and stopped crying.
“Mills, I'm not doing this with you. Either you want to be with me or not. I'm not doing this . . .” She pointed her
hand toward him, then back to her. “. . . anymore.”
“I guess we can try to work this out.”
“You guess?” Jade snarled. “Who do you think I am?”
“Will you calm your crazy ass down? I'm just messing with you,” Mills laughed. “I want us to be a family.
“Jade Simmons,” the nurse called out her name.
“Well, if you want us to be a family . . .” Jade stood up and looked back at Mills. “Act like it,” she said, picking up the baby bag and her purse.

“Okay, that's a wrap everyone! Thank you!” yelled the photographer in charge. As soon as he said this, people were in a total frenzy. The makeup artist started putting her things away. The photographer's assistants were busy taking down the background drop and disassembling the lights. The photographer went back to his desk and started reviewing the pictures he took from today's shoot.
“Excuse me?” said a soft-spoken voice. “Mr. Campbell?” she asked.
“Yes, little lady?” he replied, looking up at the figure standing in his office doorway. “They told me you would have my check ready after the shoot was completed?” she asked.
“Oh yes, that's right. I have it right here for you,” Mr. Campbell said, reaching out to give her the check. “The pictures came out great, by the way. Just wait until they hit the stores. This is gonna be great!” he exclaimed as he went back to scrolling through his camera.
“Yes, I'm sure it will,” was all he heard. He was about to say something else, but when he looked up, she was gone.
Chapter 23
I will always want you.
-Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”

“Oh lord. Kill me now,” Farrah groaned, reaching over for a tissue.
She was sick as hell with the flu and had been for a week. Her nose was stuffed up, her throat hurt, and her chest was filled with phlegm. She'd tried numerous medications to shake it, but so far nothing worked. She was in absolute hell. One minute she was hot, the next she was freezing cold. At this moment she was as cold as a glacier. The heat was on, but no amount of heat, blankets, or extra clothes could make her feel warm. She wanted to die. If she coughed one more time she was going to throw something.
“Ugh.” She blew her nose.
Then her cell phone rang. It was J.R.
“Hello?” she coughed.
“Hey baby. How are you feeling?” J.R. asked.
“Like death,” she said in a hoarse tone.
“Damn, I'm sorry. I wish I could be there to take care of you.”
“Me too. This shit is torture.” She searched the bed for more medicine, but found that she'd run out.
“Goddamn!” She tossed the box across the room.
“What?” J.R. asked, alarmed.
“I don't have anymore Sudafed.” Farrah threw her head back onto the pillow.
“Ask London to run out and get you some more.”
“She's still at work,” Farrah groaned. “I'ma have to go to the store myself.”
“Ain't it like thirty below there?”
“Yeah, I'll be fine,” Farrah replied in between coughs.
“You sure you don't want me to send you a nurse?”
“Nah, it's just the flu. I'll survive. Let me get up and run to the store. I'll call you as soon as I get back.”
“A'ight be careful babe,” he said. “I love you.”
“I will. I love you too J.R.,” she responded. Farrah felt happy that she had finally expressed her love to him out loud. On the other end of the line, J.R. felt a sense of relief that she had finally said it back.
Minutes later Farrah was at Walgreens. She'd grabbed her medicine and was now in the baby and feminine products aisle. It never made any sense to her why the baby items were always in the same aisle as the feminine products. In true Farrah logic, she thought it was idiotic to have the two in the same aisle, because if a woman was purchasing tampons or pads, that meant she wasn't pregnant. It made perfect sense to her. She walked slowly down the aisle in search of the Kotex overnight maxi pads. Her time of the month was due soon and so she had to make sure she was stocked up. She found the pads at the bottom row and was stooping down to get them when she heard a familiar voice say, “Babe, we gotta get Jaysin some more wipes.”

No-no-no-no-no
,” Farrah repeated, turning her face in the opposite direction so Mills and Jade would not recognize her.
This cannot be happening,
she thought. On all of the days she would run into Mills. She hadn't seen nor heard from him in months and when she did, not only was he with the bitch he cheated on her with, but she was looking a hot freakin' mess. Farrah assumed when she left the house that running into Walgreens would be an in-and-out thing. She didn't care that her hair was pulled up into a ratty ponytail or that she wore a black peacoat, tattered sweatshirt, oversized sweatpants, and rain boots.
She wasn't supposed to run into anyone she knew! Yet here she was with a red stuffy nose, medicine, and overnight maxi pads in her hand. Realizing she couldn't stay crouched down on the floor forever, Farrah rolled her eyes and stood up. Cursing her very existence on earth, she cleared her throat.
“Farrah?” Mills called out, unsure if it was her.
“Hi.” She waved her hand awkwardly.
Farrah had never felt like a bigger idiot. She looked like a creature from the woods while Jade stood before her dressed to the nines in a southwestern print oversized cardigan, skintight light blue skinny jeans, and Alexander Wang heels. Mills looked as if he'd stepped straight out of a
GQ
magazine shoot. His sex appeal was at an ultimate high. He donned a black-hooded jacket unzipped, black slouchy T-shirt, black skinny jeans, and Air Yeezys.
But no amount of sex appeal could take away the fact that he was standing in front of her with Jade. She was a little taken aback by the discovery that they were back together. She wondered how long they'd been a couple again.
Had he been fuckin' with her the whole time he was begging me for forgiveness?
she wondered. In all honesty the timing didn't matter at all. Whether he got with Jade before or after their divorce would not make a difference to her because it stung either way you sliced it.
She wondered if they could see the agony in her eyes. He had to know that he was killing her softly with this shit. How could he go back to the same chick that stepped out on him and made him cry? The same chick that kept his baby against his will and was the cause of them being divorced? Farrah was starting to wonder if she ever really knew Mills at all.
“Funny running into you here,” she said, smiling.
“How are you?” Mills reached out for a hug.
“No,” Farrah quickly backed up. “You don't wanna do that.”
“Exactly,” Jade agreed with an attitude.
“I have the flu. I wouldn't want to get you or the baby sick.” Farrah looked down at Jaysin, who was in her stroller.
“Oh wow. She's a big girl now. I mean not in a fat kind of way. Just bigger in size,” Farrah explained.
“We get it,” Jade quipped.
“Jade, I see nothing's changed.”
“I concur.” Jade eyed her up and down and laughed.
Farrah was always a hot mess whenever Jade was around and now standing there looking like she just came off the unemployment line, she knew Jade would look at her like she was about nothing.
“You two are back together?” Farrah asked Mills, feeling as if her heart was about to explode.
“Yep, one big happy family,” Jade responded before Mills could. “Ain't that right baby?”
“It was good seeing you, Farrah,” Mills chimed in, unwilling to play Jade's game. “I hope you feel better,” Mills said.
“Thanks. Let me go pay for my stuff.” Farrah unknowingly held up the bag of pads.
Mortified, she whisked past Jade and Mills. After paying for her things Farrah rushed out of the store, hopped in her Jeep, and sped home. Thank God London was there. Farrah needed someone to talk to.
“London!” Farrah yelled.
“What?” London shouted from her room.
“Girl,” Farrah walked briskly into her room. “Guess who I just ran into at Walgreens of all places?”
“Who? Lindsay Lohan? 'Cause I thought I saw her yesterday.”
Farrah screwed up her face.
“No fool. Mills and Jade,” Farrah said with disgust.

Whaaat?
” London's mouth flew open.
“Yes, them muthafuckas are back together.”
“I ain't surprised. What you expect from that nigga?”
“Not that shit. He talked about her ass like a dog when we were together. He said he would never get back with her.”
“Farrah . . . you know that's what niggas do. They talk mad shit about a bitch and be the main one fuckin' her. Let Mills's sorry ass do whatever it is he gon' do. If Jade dumb enough to go back to his ass then let her. Hell, it's a weight off of your shoulders. Let her deal with his trifling ass and all the drama that comes along with him. 'Cause trust and believe ain't shit about that nigga changed.”

Farrah felt like an absolute idiot and low-key stalker for constantly creeping on Mills's Instagram page. She should've been working, but now here she was going through his pics like a crazy ass. Ever since she saw him she hadn't been able to get him off of her mind. Prior to their divorce she hadn't thought about him at all. Mills wasn't even on her radar.
She had tossed his ass up the deuce and kept it moving. J.R. was the only man she was checking for. He'd been nothing but perfect, but after seeing Mills and Jade together a spark was ignited inside of Farrah. She didn't understand why it bothered her or why she cared, but she did. Although he was no longer her husband and she no longer wanted him to be, it pissed her off that he could so easily go back to the same woman who was a part of their demise.
If he'd never slept with Jade they wouldn't be divorced. They'd still be together building a home and a family. But he did and it was obvious that he'd moved on, which made Farrah wonder if all of the tears and begging to be back with her was ever real. How long had he and Jade been back on romantic terms? It'd only been a few months since Farrah had given him the ring back.
From the look of his Instagram pictures Jade's words were true. They were one, big happy family. It also looked like Mills was back living with Jade. Not only was he back living with her, but he was living with her in the home he'd bought for them. Farrah swore she'd been sucker punched in the gut. The disrespect had reached an all-new level. If he was trying to hurt her, he was succeeding. Farrah had way too much respect for their marriage to even dare post pictures of her and J.R. so soon after her divorce.
Obviously Mills didn't share the same sentiments. Every bit of her yearned to pick up the phone and give him a piece of her mind for making her look like such a big fool. But cussing him out wouldn't solve anything. Hurt would still lay in the pit of her stomach.
“What are you doing?” London asked, walking past her door.
“Huh?” Farrah jumped, hiding her phone in her lap.
“Yo' ass is up to something.” London walked into her office.
“I don't know what you're talking about.” Farrah placed her phone facedown onto her desk. “I'm working on something. The same thing you should be doing instead of worrying about me, you nosy li'l girl.” Farrah faced her computer and pretended to work.
“Girl bye. You ain't foolin' me.” London swiftly picked up her phone and stepped back.
“Give me back my phone, London!” Farrah hopped up.
“No, ma'am.” London swiped the phone to unlock and saw that she was on Mills's Instagram page. “Really bitch?”
“I know!” Farrah sat back down and buried her face into her hands. “I'm an idiot.”
“You sure are. Girl, you need to stay off that man's page.”
“I can't help it,” Farrah confessed.
“Yes you can. How many times do I have to tell you? Fuck Mills!” London slammed her phone down. “I keep tellin' yo' hardheaded ass. So what is it?”
London took a seat at Farrah's desk.
“You call yourself missing him or something? You regret the divorce?”
Farrah swallowed hard.
“I don't know. All I know is I feel some type of way and I don't know why. I don't want him back, but to see him with Jade bothers me.”
“But why? This is what you wanted. What? You expected him to stay single or something? This is Mills we're talkin' about here. That nigga can't stay alone for five minutes. Why do you think he keeps on bouncing back and forth between you two?”
“That's the thing, though. I don't think I would be that upset if it were some random chick, but it's Jade. This bitch has caused me so much hell. She's the reason why Mills and I are divorced now.”
“Let's keep it all the way one hundred. You and Mills are not together for multiple reasons. Y'all niggas were doomed from the start. That shit was never gonna work. And I understand your feelings being hurt. After all he put you through I would expect you to feel hurt. But you have to remember, my dear friend, that you are better off without him. Not to mention, you have a good man in your life now. J.R. is two times the man Mills is. He's funny, fine with a capital
ƒ
and he treats you like a queen. Don't let this shit with Mills fuck up what you have going on with J.R.” London preached on.
“Yeah, you're right. My man is da bomb dot com,” Farrah said snapping her fingers. “I need to stop trippin'.”
“You sure in the fuck do!” London said, laughing.
“Thanks for putting me in check, babe. I knew I keep you around for something,” Farrah said jokingly.
“Whatever bitch. Bye!” London snapped back as she walked out of Farrah's office.
