CHAPTER TEN

They spent Victoria’s birthday lounging on the beach and talking.  Dominic knew that she missed her mom so whenever she started to look sad, he would say or do something to make her laugh.  After spending the entire day at the villa, they made dinner reservations at a local Caribbean restaurant called Tempus.  The restaurant was a beautiful structure with palm trees lining the entrance and the building was all stone with gold inlays.  The look and feel of the restaurant was airy, but elegant.  As they were escorted to their seats they notice a baby grand piano off to the side.  They were given the choice of sitting inside or out.  Victoria chose to sit inside, close to the piano. 

As they finished their meal, Dominic stared at Victoria and raised his glass “Happy Birthday Ms. Victoria Hart, I am really going to miss you; you are something special
.”  They tapped their glasses. “And I am going to miss you also, Mr. Dominic Moretti you have made this the best vacation slash birthday gift ever.”  They began to laugh.  “In all seriousness if you ever need anything or just someone to talk to you can call me.”  Dominic said seriously.  “Thank you for that and you have my number as well.  I would like to hear from you about your business and how things are going.”  She wanted to say that he could call if he just wanted to hangout or go to dinner from time to time but she knew the deal, the only reason he was there was because of the money and that was the bottom line.

“So what do you think?” Dominic said bring her out of her thoughts. 

“I’m sorry what did you say?” 

“I said do you want to share a dessert?” 

“Sure, that would be great.”  He nodded to the waitress and she brought a small cake to the table as other staff gathered around and began to sing the “Happy Birthday” song.  Victoria was slightly embarrassed but happy. She made a wish and blew out the candle.  The entire staff cheered and wished her well as Dominic continued to stare at her with that same look he had when he’s about to make love to her.  She blushed as she talked about the delicious cake trying not to think about the look he was giving her. 

The entire ride home was comfortably quiet, both caught up in their own thoughts.  When they arrived at the villa both decided to take a shower.  Victoria showered in the main bathroom while Dominic showered in the other bathroom.  Both thought of the
each other, as they got ready for bed.  Dominic padded across the tiled hallway from one bedroom to the other.  As he entered the room Victoria was lowering a short silk nightie over her body.  Wearing pajama bottoms only, he approached her. 

“Are you alright Vic?”

“This trip has been great, just what the doctor ordered
, and the company wasn’t half bad either,” he said joking.  He must have seen the disappointment in her face.  “Hey, hey I was just joking.”  He pulled her into an embrace.  She gazed in his eyes, “I know I’m going to miss this place, it’s truly paradise,” she said as she laid her head on his shoulder.  He inhaled and could smell that amazing smell that has been driving him crazy for the last two weeks. “You are an amazing woman and I had an unbelievable experience.  You are truly special Vic.”  She pulled out of his embrace; her heart was pounding so hard she was sure he could feel it.  That was her body’s reaction to him. 

“So when you’re done breakfast, we can head to the airport.”  She turned, “Oh I almost forgot,” she walked towards the living room.  She was wearing a white silk blouse and black slacks with a pair of black stilettos.  He was mesmerized by the sway of her hips and that ass, god he was going to miss that ass.  She turned to see him looking at
her backside and she smiled inwardly as she handed him an envelope.  “I would rather do this here, in private, than at the airport when we arrive home.  Dominic opened the envelope to find a cashier’s check for twenty five thousand dollars. 

“Victoria this is too much, the agreed upon amount was twenty thousand dollars.” 

“I gave you a tip. Is tipping not allowed?  Well it’s too late now it’s already done.  You deserve it and…” Just then the phone is the villa rang.  They had forgotten there was a phone, because it never rang.  “Good morning.  Yes, this is she, what, I don’t understand?  Okay well thank you very much.”  Victoria hung up the phone and he could see the excitement on her face.  “Nick you are not going to believe this but I was just told that we were their one hundred thousandth customer and our entire stay is complimentary.  How crazy it that?”  She said smiling at him. 

“Wow that is crazy,” Dominic smiled.  He had arranged for payment of the villa and told the concierge to make up a story. There was silence for a few seconds before Victoria said, “thank you Nick, this has been the one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had.  You were amazing the entire two weeks.  Thank you.”  She tilted her head towards his and kissed him softly on the lips.  There was a knock at the
door; it was the same bellboy that brought them both to the villa.  “I’m here for your luggage and this is for you madam.” He handed her an envelope with an invoice showing a zero balance.  They gathered the rest of their things as they both took a second look at the villa before leaving for the airport. 

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Over the next few weeks, Victoria fell back into the swing of things.  She often thought about her time with Dominic; actually every time she had down time, thoughts of their two weeks together would flood her memory.  Victoria sat in her office overlooking Philly’s skyline when Jacqueline walked in at sat on the sofa, Victoria was not even aware that she had entered the office. 

“So how is the Dylan account coming along?”  When there was no response, Jacqueline stood and walked towards the desk. “Earth to Victoria.” 

“Huhh, I’m sorry Jackie, what did you say?” 

“What’s going on with you dear?  You seem to have your head in the clouds.” 

“I don’t know Jackie, do you ever have a problem with concentrating after you come back from one of your trips?”

“Do I sometimes reminisce about the experience?  Of course, but I don’t dwell on it, it’s just sex, mind you, very good sex, but just sex all the same.” 

Victoria stood and walked closer to the window “I don't know Jackie, Dominic was so amazing, just the perfect lover and I can't get him out of my mind.” Victoria turned to face Jacqueline, knowing that she had said too much.  She used her hands to smooth her skirt and focused her attention back to Jacqueline. “But I’ll get over it, so what's up Jackie?” 

Jacqueline stared at Victoria for a moment before speaking. “Victoria dear that wasn’t about feelings, it was just supposed to be about sex and once you put that into perspective you'll be okay.”

Victoria looked at Jacqueline and nodded. “So what did you need Jackie?”

“I came in to get an update on the Dylan account.” 

Victoria grabbed the file.  “There have been some interesting developments in that account.” Victoria and Jacqueline sat and talked for over an hour on the strategy of how to handle the Dylan account.  Jacqueline stood to walk out the door “Remember dear,
its just sex.”  She kissed her fingers and blew a kiss at Victoria before exiting. Victoria thought about Jacqueline parting comments, she knew Jackie was right, it was just sex and she really need to get over it. She sat back at her desk and turned her attention back to work.

Over the next couple of weeks Victoria used work as her distraction, working long hours including weekends, to finalize the Dylan account. It had been to two months since her vacation and her thoughts of Dominic started to lessen. She needed to put the thoughts of that vacation behind her and move forward. Victoria came in to the office on Monday morning prepared to do a presentation.  She had a difficult time finding a suit that would fit, as most of her suits were a little too tight.  She made her way to the office after finally finding something that fit.

She had been so sluggish the last couple of weeks that she was too tired to work out and figured that was the reason her suits were snug. She had not been feeling well all weekend and decided to go home and get some rest after her presentation. She walked into her office, retrieved the folder and immediately began to review her notes when her stomach started feeling queasy.  She had been feeling nauseous over the last week and a half, but it never brought her to the point of actually throwing up. She laid her head back in her chair until the feeling of queasiness
subsided; her nerves were really getting to her. When the feeling subside she raced ahead to continue reviewing her notes.  Another wave of nausea overtook her suddenly and she had to run to the bathroom in her office.  She barely made it to the toilet before emptying the contents of her stomach.  Jacqueline heard the commotion as she walked in.

“Are you all right Victoria, what's going on?”

“I think I caught some type of bug, I'm not feeling well today.”

“Do you want me to do the presentation for you? Maybe you should go home and get some rest, you don't look well”

“Give me a minute Jackie, I’ll be fine, after I do the presentation I will head home.”  Victoria stood, washed her face, brushed her teeth and went back to reviewing her notes. Victoria was able to make it through the presentation, nailing the account. After finalizing the paperwork, Victoria packed her briefcase so that she could head home. Jacqueline walked into her office.

“You really need to see a doctor Victoria, just to make sure you're okay.”

“I promise if I’m not feeling well by tomorrow I will go to the doctors before coming into the office.”

Victoria went straight home, made soup and got into bed.  Victoria woke up the next morning feeling even worse than she did the day before. She got out of bed and had to run to the toilet to throw up.
Okay I really do need to go to the doctors. 
She showered as she tried to get herself together. She called the doctor's office and they were able to squeeze her in at 10 o'clock. As soon as she entered the doctor's office and described her symptoms they gave her a cup to pee in and put her in one of the rooms to wait for her doctor. The doctor entered the room.

“So what's going on with you Victoria, I understand you are not been feeling well and have had a bout with nausea.” He said as he began to examine Victoria.  She explained her
symptoms and upon completing his exam he said “Victoria you can get dressed and meet me in my office.” Victoria hoped he had medicine to help with the way she was feeling because she was swamped at the office and really couldn’t afford to take off anymore time off after a two-week vacation. The thoughts of her vacation and Dominic invaded her thoughts.

Victoria finished dressing and walked into the doctor's office. “So what's the verdict Dr. Cooper, am I going to live?” Victoria said joking. “You are absolutely going to live.”  Dr. Cooper said smiling. “I do have some unbelievably amazing news for you. It appears that your pregnancy tests came back positive,” he said nonchalantly, she was so stunned that she was having a hard time understanding as she tried, unsuccessfully to regulate her breathing. 

“There must be some mistake, I can't get pregnant, I’m sterile remember?”

“Well the initial test indicates that you are indeed pregnant my dear. We need to draw some blood and send it out for testing. You will need to make an appointment to come back in so we can see how far along you are.  Here’s a prescription for prenatal vitamins.  Congratulations Victoria, this is a blessing.  He looked at Victoria when she didn’t respond.  “It is a blessing Victoria.” Still in shock; it took a few seconds to realize that the doctor was speaking to her. 

“Of course it’s a blessing Dr. Cooper, I’m just trying to get over the initial surprise. “

“Good, now make an appointment to see me in two weeks, we’ll check to see how far along you are and talk about what to expect during your pregnancy.  Because you just turned 35 we will need to run some tests as a precaution, because you are technically a high risk age.”

Victoria could only nod as she walked out of his office.  She headed home and got back into bed, how was she going to explain this; a chill ran down her spine.  “Oh my God, what am I going to tell Dominic?” She said out loud.  She decided to work from home on Wednesday and by Thursday Jacqueline was at her condo demanding to know what was going on.  Jacqueline knew whatever it was, it was not good, because Victoria was still in her pajamas at two o'clock in the afternoon.

“Victoria what's going on, what did the doctor say?” Victoria looked at her best friend and business partner and began to cry. Jacqueline moved quickly to her side.  “What is it see, you can tell me, please tell me, you're scaring me.”

“Jackie I went to the doctor on Tuesday and he told me I was pregnant.”

“What?” Jacqueline
yelled, “how is this possible, you've been told for years you were sterile. How did this happen Victoria, didn’t you guys use protection?” Victoria looked at her best friend and the tears began streaming down her face again.

“It's a long story Jackie, but to answer your question no, we didn’t use protection. I was so certain that I couldn't get pregnant. Part of my arrangement with Dominic was that we both be tested because I wanted to have two weeks of barrier free sex. I feel like such an idiot now Jackie, what am I going to tell Dominic?”

“You will tell him the truth.  You are both adults and both took part in that agreement, now he needs to be man enough to accept the consequences.”

“It's not his fault Jackie
, Dr. Cooper and I assured him that I was sterile and unable to conceive. This isn’t fair to him and why does he have to know anyway, I am financially capable of taking care of me and my child.”

“You can't be serious Victoria, listen to yourself, you need to let that man know that he's going to be a father.”

“Jackie my careless decision is now going to affect his life, my life and the life of our child forever. I don't know what to do.” 

“What you are going to do is, look at this as the blessing it is, take care of yourself and have a healthy happy baby that you will love and cherish, but you need to tell Dominic and let the chips fall where they may.”  Victoria knew that Jacqueline was right.  She was extremely happy about the pregnancy; she had been given a gift that she thought she thought was not possible. Victoria looked down at her stomach as she rubbed her hand across it, she was happy, truly happy and it was a blessing.
