Burning the Candle

I look up at Clayton and he bends down to kiss me on the mouth. He gets off of me and reaches over to untie my handcuffs.

“That was… intense,” I say through breaths. Clayton just smiles as he unfastens me from the bedposts. For a moment, I felt a bit alone and vulnerable, as he didn’t speak. “I bet you bring a lot of girls here and do this at all of your parties.”

Clayton still doesn’t say anything as he gets up and begins to put his pants back on himself. I pull up the top of my dress just when a phone ringing breaks the silence.

“Hello,” Clayton says firmly as he answers the phone. “I’ll be right down.”

Clayton puts his clothes on, unlocks the door, and leaves the room as I change.

“Good job, Sierra,” I say to myself. “You just found yourself another asshole.”

I put my shoe on, collect my purse, and begin to walk out of the room. When I go to close the door, I see the toy laying on the bed. I walk over to it and pick it up.

“I’ll be taking this,” I say as I place the toy in my purse and leave the room.

Most of the candles in the hallway are now out and sconces on the walls light up the house. After a few moments, I find the washroom and begin freshening up. After splashing water on my face, I look to a mirror and begin touching up my makeup.

Suddenly, I hear a loud noise coming from downstairs. I put my things back in my purse, strap on my mask, and quickly leave the room.

“Fuck you, man!” I heard a voice yell as I come down the spiraling stairs.

“Sir,” says Martin. “I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

Looking down, I see Clayton and Martin standing before a guy in a jog suit with his back to me. He is being held back by a couple of men in black tuxedos. The music has stopped and most of the guests begin to leave. I look through my purse at my phone to see that it is nearly 2am.

“I’m not leaving until I get to punch the guy who has been fucking my girlfriend!” struggles the man in the jog suit. Then I look over and realize that I know who this guy is.

“I’m not your girlfriend anymore, Josh!” screams the girl.

“Like hell you aren’t!” Josh yells back.

“You’re a lying, cheating piece of shit, and I never want to see you again!” she screams at him.

“The police are on their way,” warns Clayton.

“You called the cops?” yells Josh. “Why don’t you just let your friend here act like a man and
fight
?”

The Josh breaks free of the hold he was in and lunges at the man next to Clayton. As Josh approaches, Clayton quickly moves in front of him and punches Josh in the face. He falls onto his back and grabs his nose.

“What the fuck man?” shouts Josh. I hear sirens and see a flash of red and green lights coming up to the driveway.

“Everyone, time to leave,” says Martin. The guests begin piling down the hallway. “Thank you for coming this evening.”

I step down to see Clayton who doesn’t seem to notice me. It was strange seeing Josh and Clayton both
in the same room. I follow the stream of guests out of the mansion as the cops enter the main room. For a few minutes, I wait outside, searching for a driver’s service that would come pick me up. When my phone dies, I decide to walk down the path, away from the commotion, hoping to get to a road where I can hail a cab. The only trouble is that I’m pretty sure I don’t have enough money in my bank account to pay them.

“Sierra,” calls a voice behind me. I look to see Clayton’s handsome face looking at me as he walks down from the driveway. “I’m sorry about this evening.”

“It’s okay,” I reply as I dig through my purse to see if I have any remaining cash. “Surprisingly enough, I know that guy. Everything that blonde girl said about him is completely true.”

“That’s not what I meant,” Clayton is now standing right next to me. “I’m sorry that I didn’t talk to you after what happened upstairs.”

“Oh, that,” I start. “I guess should know, it’s a sex party. What else were we going to do?”

Clayton stands next to me by a patch of trees in the moonlight. He looks down at me and gently smiles. There is something about him that I find irresistible, yet thrilling.

“You are beautiful, Sierra,” Clayton says as he runs his hand through my hair. “I knew there was something special about you when we met. All day long, I couldn’t get you out of my head. I would like it very much if I could see you again.”

“I would like that, too,” I say softly. The Clayton leans down, pulls off my mask, and kisses me.
