The dates I used follow the actual timeline of the Federal Army of the West, later Southwest, and later just a part of the Union Army. Did you have as much trouble following the transitions of the army names as I did at first? I hope not. Wilson Creek was considered the second major battle in the Civil War. The Confederate Army was still forming. General Price’s men were generally new recruits. When they flew the Confederate flag in the battle at Dunegan’s farm, it was the first time a single flag unified the southern troops under Major General Sterling Price and Brigadier General Benjamin McCulloch.

And thus ends the history lesson. I just love knowing about the people who lived before us and can’t stop telling people about them. I absolutely hated history in school, because it never talked about the people affected by the wars and dates we memorized. So please forgive my passion for making up for the lost years of learning.
