Chapter
21

Things have been great between Wyatt and me, we spend as
much time together as we can manage. He comes into the shop almost every
morning to get his cup of coffee.  Its strange, but I am loving it. I haven't
told the girls yet, I am not ready to do that. They have already had to get use
to Tessa.

I am lost in thought working on donuts, when I hear my phone
ring. I see that it is Kyle and I answer quickly, hoping nothing is wrong with
the girls.

"Hello, Kyle?"

"Hi Anne. Good Morning."

"Is everything okay?"

"Oh, yeah. Sorry I am calling you so early. I was
wondering if we meet tonight. I have some things I need to talk to you
about."

"OooK.....are you sure everything is alright?" I
ask worried, this is weird.

"It is really, can we have dinner?"

"Sure. Where do you want to meet?"

"Let's go to Coney Island, how about six?"

"Sure."

"Thanks again, see you then."

I hear the phone click off. Now that was a strange
conversation. I wonder what that is all about. God, I hope it's not about him
and Tessa. I really don't want to spend the night talking about her. Before I
drive myself crazy trying to figure out what this is about, I dive back into
making donuts.

I bring everything up front when I am done to fill the case.
Jaylah is busy making coffee and helping some early customers. Once the
customers are gone she turns to me.

"What's wrong?"

I chuckle, "Kyle called, he wants to meet me tonight to
talk."

"Really, I wonder what he wants. You don't suppose he
is serious with that bitch do you?"

"I hope not, but that's what I was thinking too."

She shakes her head and we hear the bell above the door go
off. In walks Wyatt, with his sexy smile on his face. I smile back, not even
thinking about my earlier conversation.

"Hello beautiful."

"Hi." I smile back at him. Jaylah looks at the two
of us, shakes her head and laughs. She goes into the back, I am sure to leave
us alone. He gets to the counter and tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear.
His thumb is rubbing my cheek, when he leans in and gives me a gentle kiss.

"Mmmmm. Can I get you a coffee?"

He chuckles, "That would be great."

I turn to make his favorite carmel latte, with a smile on my
face. I love seeing him in the morning he always brightens my day. Jaylah walks
back up front and nudges me. Another customer walks in and she goes to help
them. I grab one of Wyatt's favorite donuts and put in a bag. I walk to the
counter and hand it all to him.

"Thanks," he says with a smile.

"You’re welcome, tell Dan and Rick hello for me."

"Okay, you have a great day, beautiful."

"You too, I will talk to you later."

I wave to him as he is walking out of the shop, before he
leaves he turns and winks at me. God, his smile is so damn sexy. I can't wait
for us to have more alone time together. I watch as he hops in his truck, he
turns and waves before he drives away.

"Man you have it bad, toots" Jaylah laughs at me
and shakes her head.

I know she is right and it scares me. I don't know if I am
ready to have such a serious relationship. I haven't been divorced that long
and I worry about my girls being able to adjust to all of this. Especially
since I think Kyle is serious with Tessa. I really wish he would think long and
hard about her. He could use some time being alone. It did wonders for me.

~~~
I pull into a parking spot in front of the Coney Island,
it's a couple of minutes before six. I see Kyle's car parked and know he is
already inside. I take a deep breath and get out of the car. I walk into the restaurant
and look around and see him waving me over to the table.
I sit down across the booth from him. "Hello,
Kyle."
"Hi, thanks for coming. I wasn't sure if you
would."
I nod and smile back at him. I look over the menu, the
waitress comes and takes our order. I take a sip of my water and look over at
Kyle. He is fidgeting with his napkin, then looks up at me.
"Soooo....how's the shop doing?"
"Good, but that's not what you wanted to talk to me
about," I smile back at him. He actually looks upset.
"No, I guess it isn't. Look Anne, I wanted to let you
know that Tessa and I broke up. I couldn't handle how she was treating you and
she was getting really demanding."
"Wow, really? That is so not what I thought you were
going to tell me," I chuckle. "Sorry I don't mean to laugh at
you."
"It's fine. You probably thought I was going to tell
you we were serious, huh?"
"Yeah, actually I was."
"Please don't break up because of me. I'm fine. Your
private life is your own."
"Thanks, but I couldn't handle the drama, anymore."
We both laugh together, it's nice. We haven't done that in a
long time. The waitress brings out our dinners. We start eating and talking
about the girls. It was a very pleasant meal, but I am still not sure why he
couldn't have told me about Tessa over the phone. I look up to see Kyle
watching me and I smile.
"Thanks again for coming. It's nice to have a meal with
you. I miss this."
I catch myself before I roll my eyes, "Yes it has been
nice."
The waitress comes and asks if we need anything else. Kyle
orders a piece of apple pie and I decide what the hell. I order a piece of
coconut cream pie, I don't eat dessert very often.
When the waitress drops off desserts and sets the bill on
the table. I dig in and groan after I take the first bite. I look to see Kyle
chuckle at me.
"What?" I ask with my mouth full.
"Nothing. I see you are enjoying your dessert."
"Yeah, sorry. I haven't had this in a long time."
We both smile.
Once we are both done, I stand to get ready to leave. Kyle
comes next to me and puts his hand on my arm.
"We should do this more often, maybe next time we can
bring the girls," he says.
I walk out of his embrace, "That would be nice, thank
you for dinner."
Kyle pays for our meal and we walk outside. He walks me to
my car.
"Thanks for coming," he looks into my eyes. He
gives me a kiss on the cheek, I look into his eyes and see sadness.
"Sure, Kyle. I will talk to you later."
I get into my car and watch him walk to his. When he looks
back at me, I wave. What a strange meal. It's early still and I wonder what
Wyatt is doing tonight. I get my phone and decide to find out.
Anne 6:54pm
what r u doing?
Wyatt 6:55pm
nothing....why?
Anne 6:55pm
Wyatt 6:56pm
only if it's u
Anne 6:57pm
I'm on my way  ;)
This is the first time I have ever been to his house, I am
really excited. I know he lives in Mr. Nolan's rental house, dad told me that
when he first moved here. It's only about ten minutes away. I pull into his
long driveway, I forgot how beautiful this piece of property was. I don't come
out here to often.
I get out of the car and see him standing in his front door
smiling at me. When I walk up the porch he opens the door for me.
"Well hello, beautiful."
"Hello," I smile back at him.
He grabs me into his arms and kisses me. I drop my purse,
wrap my arms around his neck and dig my hands into his hair. He picks me up and
I wrap my legs around his waist. He kicks the front door closed, as he carries
me to his room. I start to unbutton his shirt as we go, he starts kissing me
again.
Wyatt
I was so glad to get that text from Anne. This is the first
time she has come to my place. I almost texted her back to tell her where I
lived, when I heard her pull into the driveway. I should have known better,
being in a small town of course she new where I lived.
I didn't waste anytime getting her into my bedroom. We made
love and she fell asleep shortly after. I love having her in my arms, I like to
watch her sleep. I gently unwrap myself to go into the kitchen. I hadn't eaten
anything and my stomach is growling.
As I am making myself a grilled cheese sandwich, I feel Anne
wrap her arms around my waste.
"Sorry, I didn't want to wake you."
"It's okay, I was lonely in there."
"You want a sandwich?"
"No thanks, I went out to dinner before I came
over."
"Oh, with who?"
She walks over to the fridge and grabs a bottle of water. I
look over at her and raise one of my eyebrows at her. Who did she have dinner
with that she doesn't want to tell me?
"Umm....it was Kyle. Before you say anything, he wanted
to let me know that he broke up with Tessa."
"Were your girls there?"
"No, it was only us." She looks away as I bring my
sandwich to the table.
"Why didn't he call you and let you know."
"I'm not sure, he looked sad when we left."
I am not liking where this seems to be going. I am hoping he
isn't getting any ideas about getting Anne back. I try to keep my temper down,
I don't want her getting mad at me. I look up at her and smile. I finish my
sandwich quickly and she has gotten very quiet. I walk over to her and pull her
up to me.
"What's wrong?"
"I hope you know nothing happened, it was only
dinner."
"I didn't say anything," I reply, trying not to
get mad.
"You didn't have to. We have children together, he will
always be in my life."
"Okay."
She looks into my eyes, I don't want to fight about her
ex-husband. I brush my knuckles across her cheek and kiss her gently. I don't
like where this conversation is heading, so I decide to drop it. We have better
things to do with our time, so I pick her up in my arms and carry her back to
my room to finish what we started earlier.
Chapter
I left Wyatt's house feeling great. I really need to do that
more often. I get to work right on time and see Jaylah unlocking the door. I
run up to her with a smile.
"Good Morning. I see someone didn't come home last
night." She raises her eyebrow at me.
"Yeah I went over to Wyatt's house last night." I
smile back at her.
"So, what happened with Kyle?"
"He wanted to tell me that he broke up with
Tessa."
"What? That's weird, why didn't he just call and let
you know?"
We walk into the back and start our daily routine. I keep
thinking about dinner with Kyle and the way Wyatt acted. He brushed it off, but
I could tell something was wrong. I guess I can understand, I wouldn't like it
if he was out with Sue or his ex-wife.
I look back at Jaylah, "Kyle told me that he wants to
go out with me more often and with the girls. He looked so sad when we
left."
"That asshat, better not get any ideas with you."
"It's over between us, I hope he realizes that. He hurt
me more than I think he knows."
Jaylah shakes her head and goes up front to start making
coffee. I finish up all the baking in the back and bring it up. The morning
ends up being a busy one, we were so caught up with our day.
I realized in the afternoon that Wyatt didn't come in for
his coffee. I wonder if everything is okay. I shake it off and get back to
work. I have the girls for the weekend, so I won't be in the shop the next two
days. I have our weekend planned and we are going to spend tomorrow at the
Detroit Zoo. We haven't gone there in a long time and I am looking forward to
it.
I am finishing up my day when Julia walks in to start her
shift. She walks in the back to grab an apron. As she ties on her floral apron,
I fill her in on what she needs to do tonight. I hurry up to leave and go pick
up the girls.
I drive to Kyle's house and pull into the driveway. I get
out and walk up to the porch, I start to knock when the door opens. I see Katie
smiling at me and I open the door.
"Hello, baby."
"Hi, mama. We aren't ready yet, sorry."
I follow her in the house and Kyle walks out of the kitchen.
He sees me and smiles.
"Hi, Anne."
"Hi. Sorry I know I am a little early. I missed the
girls."
"It's fine. They are finishing up, want a drink?"
I nod, as Shannon comes running up to me and gives me a hug.
I smile down at her and give her a kiss.
"Go get ready, honey."
"Okay, mama."
I walk into the kitchen and sit at the table. Kyle brings me
a glass of ice tea and sets it in front of me.
"Thanks." I smile up at him.
He sits down across from me. I look around not sure what to
say.
"So, have any plans for this weekend?" he asks.
"Yeah, I am going to take the girls to the zoo,
tomorrow."
"That will be nice. I miss doing stuff like that as a
family."
He has that sad, far away look in his eyes again. I take a
drink of my tea and play with my glass. I am not understanding where he is at.
The girls come up to me and let me know that they are ready. I look over to
Kyle and he nods. The girls give him a hug and kiss. I stand up and get ready
to leave.
Kyle grabs my arm as I walk past him. I look at him and he
drops his hand.
"Bye, Kyle. Have a good weekend."
"Thanks, Anne. I love you Katie, Shannon. Be good for
your mom."
"Bye. Daddy," the girls say together and wave.
We get into the car and I look back to see Kyle waving to
us. I wave back and can't shake the feeling of how sad he is. Where was this
when it could have mattered for us. I shake my head of these thoughts and think
about my weekend with the girls.
~~~

We had a long day at the zoo, but we had a great time. The
girls are exhausted from all the walking that we did. It didn't take me long to
get them to go to sleep. I get a bottle of wine and a glass from the kitchen. I
throw myself down on the couch, exhausted myself.

I decide to watch a movie and relax the rest of the night.
As I am sitting here, not really watching the movie I put on, I realize that I
still haven't heard from Wyatt. Not understanding what is going on, I decide to
text him.

Anne 8:06pm

I finish up my glass of wine, with a smile on my face. I'm
exhausted and decide to go to bed. I want to get to dad's house early and make
dinner. We are spending the day there, I am looking forward to have the day
with dad and the girls.

I put my pj's on and crawl under the covers. I smile to
myself and fall asleep with Wyatt on my mind.
