“Oh I’m okay, just tired. We have been going nonstop since we got back and the fashion sho
w took a lot out of me. Thanks
, but I’m good. Really!
Now stop trying to make a big fuss over me. I am not a child.”

Simone shrugged her shoulders, taking her sister’s word for it. She turned back to continue making dinner. If Mya wanted to keep secrets, then so should she. But, whatever was going on, she would find out. She always did. “Whatever My, whatever you say. I was just being concerned. You do look a bit tired. You ma

your eyes for those dark circles before we leave tonight,” Simone said. She knew that that would get her sister’s attention. She never left the house without looking her complete best.

“Thanks, I will but as I said before, I’m fine!”

“Well, we all know what fine stands for…” Before Simone could finish, Mya cut her off by giving her the most evil stare she ever saw. Simone quickly backed off. She didn’t want to ruin a nice evening with her sister. They hadn’t spent any quality time together in days and she missed her.
Even with all the conniving, manipulating, deceiving things Mya did, she still loved her sister unconditionally. Simone smiled at her sister and surprisingly Mya walked over to her and embraced her. In that moment nothing else mattered. They were together and that meant more to Simone than anything else.

“I love you Sissy,” Mya said.

“I love you more,” Simone replied.

Once their little display of affection towards each other was over, Mya walked back over to the island and sat down. She
looked around the kitchen. She
loved their home, but the kitchen was the best room in the house.
That was the first thing they noticed when looking for a home, just after leaving the hotel they occupied for a few months after returning to the city.
She and Simone spent most of their time there, cooking, eating, talking and just spending time with each other.
Purchasing a home was something they always hoped to accomplish and who better to do it with than a twin sister, Mya thought. They were truly blessed even through all the messed up situations they had been in
volved in
.

“What the hell am I thinking? I don’t believe in that. If God existed, why
did
all the bad stuff happen to us and why does it continue on
happening? To hell with a God,” Mya declared. She watched Simone make dinner, anticipating her delicious cooking. Simone had always been a great cook, just like their mother. She made it look easy and the finished product left anyone wanting more. Mya could cook, but not like Simone. And oh how she loved when she made island food, just like she was making in that moment.

Once dinner was finished Mya and Simone sat down together and ate. They laughed about silly stuff and recalled painful times.
They talked about what their lives would be like if their father hadn’t died or if they hadn’t run away from home. They talked about their mother and if they would ever see her again. They talked about Khalil and Dexter. They talked about Sugah and how wonderful she was.
They
also
talked about what would happen if they ran into Jade again and how they would go about telling their story.

“We have to get her to believe that we had nothing to do with taking her child away. It was all X’s doing. I miss her so much
, My
. She was nice to us.
She was kinda like a big sister or something.
She took us in when we had nowhere else to go.
I will forever be grateful to her.
I don’t understand all that
happened. I think part of me blocked it out of my mind intentionally,” Simone said with tears in her eyes. “I still don’t understand just how a man can take a newborn child away from his mother. Mya what happened and please don’

bullshit story about you don’t know or that it’s best if I
did
n’t know. I can handle to truth.”

Mya was suddenly proud of her sister for standing up to her, demanding answers. Was she finally growing a damn backbone after all this time or had she always had one and pretended not to?
A million
questions now lingered in Mya’s head regarding her sister. Was Simone as naïve as she appeared or had sh
e made her out to be that way?
Mya watched Simone struggle with her thoughts.
What
was
she thinking?

Simone would get answers, she thought watching her sister carefully. She knew more than what she was putting on to.
All those years of pretending to be stupid, innocent, and a pushover were over. Soon everyone would see just how smart she really was. She knew of all the vindictive things her sister had done over the years. She knew about
Bo and what he did to Mya. Simone also knew about what happened to Bo and the man who Mya convinced her
to run away with her too
. He was a heartless pedophile, preying on young girls.
She knew what really happened to him years ago when he accidently went missing.

Pretending to be blind saved her a lot of grief until those innocent little girls got involved and what happened to them. If Dex knew that they had anything to do with his sister’s murder, he would kill them, Simone thought. Mya still cared a great deal for him and she couldn’t blame her, he was one fine-ass, sexy-ass, intelligent-ass, wealthy-ass man. Maybe she should have gone after him instead of Khalil like she had wanted to in the first place, but
no
thanks to Mya, she was bamboozled again. They always wanted her over her sister
, but somehow Mya always convinced her that she wasn’t good enough for them. Those days of believing her were over
.
Simone knew now that Mya was jealous. Had she
always been jealous of her? Simone
’s guess was yes.
They looked the exact same because they are identical twins. Their bodies are shaped the same. They have the same naturally curly sandy-brown hair, with flawless skin. They spoke in the same voice
with the same tone
, the same mannerisms, had the same impeccable sense of style and loved the color blue.  But there was a
few
difference
s
between them, their eyes
and their attitudes were the complete opposite
. Mya had light brown eyes
like their mother
and her own eyes were light green
like their father
,
according to their mother
and the picture she kept hidden in her bible
. No one really noticed the difference
s
unless they stood next to each other, which rarely happened per request of her sister, Simone thought.
Her attitude was always positive, while Mya’s was always negative. At times she was hard to be around because of all the negative energy she radiated.

Simone was tired of Mya making an ass out of her, or allowing it to happen. It was time. It was time she took over her own life before she let Mya get her killed
or lose someone else she cared for
. She was in love, with a great man, even if he was younger than she. If she wanted to be with him she had to tell him everythin
g before Mya got in his head first
. She always did
, with everyone she ever cared about
. Why was her twin so evil…wicked…hateful? Yes, she had gone through horrible situations, but many of those things she brought upon herself pretending to be someone she wasn’t. If their mother could see them now, she would be furious with them. She would scorn them or slap their faces. Simone missed their mother. Thanks to Mya they hadn’t seen her in years. They didn’t even know where she was, what she looked like or if she had gotten remarried. But Simone was determined to locate her and tell her how sorry she was for letting Mya make her leave h
er
. Come to think of it, whenever something bad happened in her life, Mya was always present, and usually the one to blame. Her sister was more trouble than what it was worth
,
Simone gathered in that moment.

“Earth to Simone, girl snap ya ass back in reality”, Mya said clapping her hands in her face. Simone became immediately annoyed and suddenly wanted to get as far away from her twin as possible
before
she took all of her anger out on
her
ass
. If that happened there would be nothing left of her existence.

“What’s going on in that small mind of yours, girl? I can tell that something has you all worked up, now spill it! And don’t give me
a reason to make you talk either. You get on my fucking nerves sometimes, damn.
I should have just left their dumb ass at home to fend for yourself. Mama didn’t even want you!
Of all the people in the world to have as a sibling, I was burdened with your simple ass. You are giving me a damn headache. Clean this shit up and be quick about doing it. We have to meet Mark and Tory later to go over the plan. I’m going to take a nap. Wake me up in a few hours. Geesh, fucking moron
, I tell ya
!”

Before Simone could say or do anything, Mya was down the hallway. Simone
was beyond outraged
.
What was she talking about? Their mama did want her. It was all her fault that she wasn’t with their mother. Well, enough was enough Mya concluded. Simon
e would pay!

“Who in the fuck does she think she’s talking to like that? That bitch got me all fucked up. If she want a fight, then so be it. Let the games begin, Bitch! We will see who gets the last laugh in the end,” Simone said in a whisper.
She turned back on her music and danced like she was on stage, performing on Broadway. After the kitchen was spotless and the leftovers were put away, Simone went to her room to make an important phone call. It was time she stopped pretending.

When Mya woke up the house was dark and eerie. She glanced over at the clock and saw that it was way passed the time she and Simone where to meet with Mark and Tory. “You stupid cunt,” she called out into the silence. “How could you let me oversleep? We are late! Come one, hurry up. We gotta go.” When she realized that Simone hadn’t answered her, Mya knew something was wrong. Simone wasn’t there. She ran from
her room
throughout the house and her sister was nowhere to be found. Picking up her cell phone, Mya pressed #2. When Simone’s voicemail greeted her ear, she became outraged. “What is that little bitch up to? She had better not gone and done anything stupid or she will regret it for the rest of her sad and pathetic life.”
Mya pressed #1 on her phone. She paced back and forth waiting on the other
person
to answer the call.

“Hello, yes it’s me. No, I cannot talk about that right now. She is starting to ask questions. I think she knows something. Yes, this is serious. I may need you to come here and soon. I will call you later tonight but right now I am late for a meeting. Okay, I love you too.” There was a slight pause and then Mya spoke again, but not in her usual harsh tone. She was sincere, soft-spoken and almost like a child. “I love you too, Mama!” After ending the call, she
hurried to get herself fresh
ened up and ran from the house.
She didn’t see the shadow watching her as she got into her car and sped off down the quiet street. Simone smiled, waving in the darkness. “Checkmate, Bitch!”

As she
and her accomplice
made
t
he
i
r way back into the house the headlights
from the cars
of her guests pulled into the driveway. She was scared, but excited to see what would happen once she told them the truth.
And from the looks of it, so was her partner in crime. Simone quickly moved to the side to allow access to the front door. If this was going to work, now was not the time to be seen by anyone yet. What if things didn’t work out as they had planned? Then the secret would have to wait for another time to be revealed. But if everything went along as planned, tonight would turn out to be a joyous occasion for two people who deserved it most.

Waiting by the front door, Simone put on her happy face
. Showing any sign of weakness c
ould cause her guests to believe she was lying and she was no liar, with the exception of keeping herself protected from her evil ass twin.
Before her guests got to the door, she took out her cell phone.

“Hey

yes

she just left. I know and please be careful. That bitch is crazy. Call me when she leaves. We will…everything is going to
work out great. Trust me!
Okay

I gotta go. I love you

bye
.”

Simone ended the call and put on her poker face.
Some
things were
not better off as secrets
, she reassured herself, greeting her houseguests. It was time things were brought into the light.
She knew that Mya would hate her for what she was about to do, but she couldn’t live with herse
lf anymore now that she knew the
truth. She hated spying on her sister, but she was glad she had. All the shocking information she learned was sad and hurtful, also happy and exciting. She would deal with whatever backlash between her and Mya when the time came. Right now, she was really to start her redemption phrase.
