“I’ll have my secretary get in touch with your secretary, and perhaps we’ll seal this deal.”
“Now you’re talking.” He grazed her throat with his teeth, smiling at her shiver. “I’ll see you tonight. Don’t be late. I’m a very busy man and I demand punctuality.”
“Yes, sir.” She lifted up to kiss him. “I wouldn’t want to upset the boss.”
***
Sabelle kissed Thomas and Janie, stroking a hand down each of their cheeks, as they slept peacefully, contentedly beside each other.
So close
. She smiled, staring down at them. After tomorrow, she’d be free. Thomas and Janie would be free. She’d be just another single mom, and her children would no longer be at risk.
Her heart warmed at the thought.
She left the room, closing the door behind her, and skipped down the hall to her bedroom. Or Gavin’s room, rather.
She gathered her sexiest black lace bra and panties, black thigh highs and black stilettos, and laid them out on the bed, before heading into the bathroom. A flip of the shower filled the room with thick steam and the scent of Gavin.
Mmmmm
.
Sabelle stepped inside and showered quickly, shaving every possible hair until her skin felt smooth to the touch, before exiting the shower. Quick sprays of Flowerbomb brought a smile to her face, and she threw her hair up in a clip, adding a small bit of Viva Glam red lipstick.
Excitement stirred in her stomach, as she slipped on the lingerie, slowly gliding the silky thigh highs and locking them into the garter.
She needed a fix. Needed Gavin. Wanted to smooth her hands over his strong, chiseled body and feel him shatter around her.
She slipped a robe over the lingerie, concealing what she wore beneath, and headed toward his office—where they’d arranged their little tryst.
No one seemed to be around as she descended the stairs. Like a criminal, she tiptoed in her shoes and opened the door, slipping inside.
The dark room swallowed her, and only a silhouette could be seen against the window. “Good evening, master.” She smiled and bit her lip at the seductive tone in her voice. “I’ve come to discuss my punishment for earlier.”
Sabelle widened her robe, cocked a hip to the side, and gripped her waist with both hands.
The lights flipped on, and a blast of air blew from her chest.
Xander stood holding a pair of binoculars away from his eyes, his gaze devouring her body before landing back on her paralyzed stare. “Fuck. Me.”
She quickly covered herself, embarrassment washing through her in tidal waves of absolute mortification.
He whistled and set the binoculars on Gavin’s desk. “Always said Gavin was a lucky man. But you make me want to tempt his blade. I don’t suppose you’d consider coming down to the dungeon to try out my new spreader bar?”
She scowled, crossing her arms. “What are you doing in his office?”
“Saw something lurking off beyond the west gates.” His eyebrow kicked up. “Dare I ask what you’re doing here?”
“Where is Gavin?”
“He was called into the casino. Some demon trashed the dance floor.” His gaze fell away toward her legs and back. “Probably won’t be back for a
long
, long time.”
She nodded and backed away. “Okay. Thanks.” Turning around brought her facing the door, but a blast of heat hitting her neck drew her short.
“Tell me something,” he whispered. “Are you for real, or is all of this just some ploy?”
“Excuse me?”
A white object flashed in front of her face, and she sucked in a breath, staring down at
Inconsequential,
written in black ink across the business card—the one that’d been given to her by the male in the alley of
Sanctuary
.
“How do you … have that?”
“It’s my business to know every possible security breach. Gavin is my client and a friend. I take both positions very seriously.” He lifted a lock of her hair.
Goddamn, nothing creeped her out quite like the Fallen. Her powers would be useless against Xander.
“I’ll ask you again. Are. You. For. Real?”
“He offered me a deal to ditch my pimp. I’ve no idea who he is. I’ve no intentions of taking it. I’m for real.”
“Good.” He released her hair and handed her the card. “I didn’t want to have to take matters into my own hands.”
“Can I go now?”
“Absolutely.”
Sabelle pushed through the door, nerves rattled. She hadn’t even thought about the card since the asshole in the alley had given it to her that night.
Bastard
. Xander had gone through her things. Sure, she admired his loyalty to Gavin, but it didn’t stop her from feeling violated.
With a frown, she stood in the middle of the foyer, wrapped in her robe. Disappointment stabbed her in the chest, as she climbed the stairs to Gavin’s room. After tossing the card into the mouth of her purse on the floor, she threw herself on the bed.
Zeus stared down at her from the ceiling. All mighty. Powerful. Zeus.
What would a woman do to seduce a god?
As soon as the thought entered her mind, Sabelle sat up from the bed, threw one of Gavin’s ties from the armoire over her head, tucked it beneath her robe, and exited the room.
She reached the front door, and, as expected, Bennett met her with a quizzical stare.
“I need a car, Bennett.”
“Perhaps you’d like me to drive you somewhere, Miss?”
Perhaps. The last thing Sabelle needed was to get pulled over in a racy, if not bombtastic, get up. “Yes, please.”
His onceover left her cringing a bit. “Do you wish to change first?”
“No.” She coughed. “Thank you.”
Bennett led her down the hall to a garage, where a number of vehicles sat parked. Oh, man, Griff would piss his pants at the sight.
“Holy sh—” The sleek black vehicle off in the corner, lit by a sole spotlight, damn near stole her breath. “Is that … a
Bugatti Veyron
?”
“Yes, Miss.”
What she wouldn’t give to get behind
that
wheel with a lead foot. Bennett opened the door to a black Bentley, and Sabelle settled into the cold, leather seats.
Within seconds, he’d started the vehicle, and warmth hit her ass. “Seat warmers. Nice.”
“Always a hit with the ladies.” Bennett’s cut and dry humor brought a smile to her face. “Where are we off to?”
“To see Gavin.”
“Very well.” He took off up the ramp, out onto the long driveway, and once they’d passed the gates, Bennett hammered the gas.
Sabelle refused to let the opportunity slip. Who knew what the next night would bring? And after? Would Gavin return to Obsidius? The thought pierced her heart. She couldn’t bear the idea of anyone hurting him. Tormenting him. Except her, of course, but she’d assure it ended in his pleasure. No. The night belonged to her and Gavin. Emergency or not, she wouldn’t let him get out of it so easily.
Bennett entered a long tunnel, lit only by the occasional street lamp. She’d heard rumors about it, but no one had ever actually seen the secret entrance the brothers took to get to the bar.
A few miles in, the tunnel opened to a large, spacious underground parking lot, and Bennett parked the Bentley close to an elevator with an elaborate red door.
“I trust you know where to find Master Gavin’s office?”
“Yes, thank you, Bennett.”
“Will you need me to stay?”
She glanced around and found Gavin’s Mercedes parked next to Logan’s McLaren. “No. I’ll catch a ride with Gavin.” Sabelle stepped inside the elevator, pressing the button to the fifth floor. Flames danced around the numbers, and she shot upward, passing the bar, where Daria waited tables, the dance floor, the casino floor, security, until she reached the brothers’ offices.
Heart pounding in her chest, Sabelle walked the long, quiet hallway until she arrived at the office at the end. The last time she’d been inside, Gavin had fired her.
Ugh
. Forget that thought, Sabelle.
Another disturbing thought struck her stomach.
What if he’s with another woman?
Sickness churned in her stomach at visuals of her walking in on him banging away at one of the waitresses.
Cherie. She’d be the worst, for sure.
He doesn’t sleep with the staff
, she assured herself.
Sabelle clamped her eyes shut, held her breath, and knocked. No answer. She pressed her ear to the door. Silence.
A half-hearted wriggle of the knob incited a victorious gasp when it opened.
His office stood empty. Quiet. Black and white images adorned the walls—faces and cityscape. The large window at the rear offered a breathtaking view of Detroit’s skyline. She’d seen it during the day, but nothing like night, when all the abandonment served as shadows to the lights and pyres of distant skyscrapers. So beautiful.
She stepped carefully toward his desk.
The room smelled like leather. Business. A small indentation marred the desk, in front of a small TV that’d been tuned into the dance floor. Sabelle watched Gavin on screen, standing arms crossed, as he talked to Mack from security. The placed had been trashed, but that didn’t seem to deter the crowd much. Women still danced around the destruction.
Cherie stood beside Gavin, who appeared oblivious to her long glances up and down his body, and only thoughts of clawing out the woman’s eyeballs eased the jealousy churning in Sabelle’s gut.
Gavin stepped from the camera’s view, and Sabelle removed her robe, stuffed it under the desk, and sat back in his chair. Kicking her stilettos up onto the wood, she arranged his tie, allowing it to fall into her cleavage.
Voices rose from outside the office. Gavin’s. And a woman’s. Sabelle peered toward the camera, to find that Cherie had disappeared, as well.
Shit.
The voices drew closer.
She suddenly felt like an ass. He’d come up to his office with another woman! What did that make her?
Sabelle ducked under his desk, knocking her head on the wood. “Ouch!” She slapped a hand to her forehead and froze, ears perked.
“You have no idea.” Cherie’s voice arrived in sharp clarity, as the door opened, and the laughter that followed stung Sabelle’s ears. “Sabelle might be a succubus, but she’s got nothing on this pussy, baby.”
The door closed.
A quandary of emotions raked across her heart. She could pop up from the desk and go all commander bitch. She could wallow in tears beneath his desk, listening to the two of them fuck. Or she could leave without saying a word. Gather her kids and walk right the hell out the door.
Brisk footfalls approached the desk. Two? Four? She bit her lip. Gods, the anticipation was killing her. Gavin huffed and fell into his chair, legs spread in front of her, taunting. No Cherie. Ha!
He grabbed himself through his slacks and moaned. “Sabelle,” he whispered.
Chills climbed her spine.
What to do now?
How creepy would it be to jump up from the desk and yell ‘
Surprise!
’? A move like that could get her accidentally killed.
She bit her lip, doing her best to avoid his knees. The longer she remained under the desk, the more awkward it became.
Gavin’s hand stroked the front of his pants. So badly she wanted to unzip the damn things and take him in her mouth.
Smooth Sabelle. Only you could turn a potentially sexy evening into a fucking disaster
.
How long would she be trapped, watching him make a less than ambitious effort to get himself off?
A knock arrived, and Gavin sat up again.
“Hey.” Logan’s distinct voice carried across the office. “I’m takin’ off. Calla’s waiting on me.”
“Yes, of course. Go.”
“You stickin’ around?”
“A little longer.” Gavin sighed. “Not ready to go home, yet.”
“Everything good?”
“Define good.”
“You got that succubus staying with you. All okay?”
What sounded like a puffed breath gave Sabelle the impression it wasn’t. “It’s complicated.”
Complicated?
She smacked a hand to her mouth, wanting so badly to scream into her palm.
“All women are complicated. Later.”
“Yep.”
As soon as the door clicked the fire kicked on inside of her. Flames so hot she could damn well singe a bastard.
Complicated?
What the fuck was so complicated?
And why the hell should she sit here all night like some teenage puppy dog hoping for a bone?
Sabelle pushed at Gavin’s chair.
“What the fu—?” Gavin’s limbs flew up, as she crawled out from beneath his desk.
“Complicated?” She placed her hands on her hips, hot tears flooding her eyes. “I’m complicated?”
Gavin’s jaw fell open, his eyeballs bouncing up and down.
She snapped her fingers. “Hey, I’m up here.”
“What the hell? What are you wearing?”
“Never mind what I’m wearing. It’s not for you. It’s too
complicated
for you.”
Ooh, good burn
. She spun around and marched toward the door, but a yank of her arm halted her steps. “Let go of me!”
Gavin’s arms engulfed her. “You’re not going anywhere. You’re especially not leaving my office dressed like that.”
“The hell I’m not!” She dug her heel into his shin, cringing at the grunt in her ear. Just enough slack in his grip allowed her to get loose, and she ran, as fast as a woman could run in three-inch heels, toward the door.
Turns out, it wasn’t very fast at all.
A hand slipped across her stomach, and whirling around, she slammed into Gavin’s body. The heat of his stare almost broke her. Though, the anger inside rose above it. “I swear to the gods, if you don’t let me go, I’m going scream bloody murder.”
“Scream. No one will hear you.” The mockery in his voice made her want to slap him.
Her jaw shifted, and a yank at the back of her head left her paralyzed in his grip. Gavin dipped his head, kissing her throat, as tears slid down her cheek.
“Why are you crying?”
“I came here. For you.” Damn the sniffles.
Keep it together. Don’t be weak
. “If you don’t want this, then let me go. Let’s end it. Right now.”
“What makes you think I don’t want this?”
