Allie laughed then, as he’d hoped she
would. A scratchy, throated laugh that lightened the mood. She
needed hot tea, lemon, and honey. He was about to make the
suggestion when she squirmed beneath the quilts, squeezed her arms
out. Curved them about her neck. “Thanks for coming after me.” She
kissed him full on the mouth.

“
I needed a date for New
Year’s Eve.”

“
Kind of last
minute.”

He nipped her bottom lip. “Not last
minute, when it leads to a lifetime.”

“
That
sounds…permanent.”

“
Engagement, wedding
permanent.”

“
You’re asking?”

“
You accepting?”

“
Only if we have outdoor
nuptials and the moose walk me down the aisle.”

“
I was going to ask them to
be my best men.”

“
That would be quite a
wedding album.”

“
One of a kind. Just like
you, Allie Hartley.”

“
Snow one like you, Rhys
Forester.”

They went on to prove how special they
were to each other. For the rest of their lives.
