"Not my phone," Layla told him between kisses.
"Yeah." He had no desire to abandon her lips, her soft body. "Ignore it. Whoever it is can leave a message."
After the song's chorus repeated ten times, the phone stopped. Cam had hardly finished sighing in relief when the same tune began again.
"Maybe you should get it," Layla said, her pretty blue eyes clouding with concern. "They might need you at the Shamrock."
"For God's sake," he muttered, climbing off the bed. He uttered a few more choice words as he searched the floor for his phone.
His curses stopped abruptly when he saw the caller's name. Even without the name, he'd have known who was calling. He knew Paige's number by heart.
Don't pick up
, he told himself.
If you do, you'll only get dragged in again. Don't you remember how much it hurt the last time?
But he knew Paige. She wouldn't give up. She'd keep calling and texting until she wore him down. Until he was forced to speak to her.
Forced, nothing. You're no victim. Block her number, for Christ's sake. Ignore her.
He wasn't sure he could do that. Because part of him still wasn't over her.
He glanced at Layla, who was sitting up, gazing at him with a puzzled frown. He didn't know what lay ahead with her, but something was there. Something more than just sex, just friendship. Cam knew she felt it, too.
And then there was Paige. The girl who'd broken his heart.
His mouth twisted at the sappy sentiment. Something out of a cheesy romance. Hell, he wished she
had
broken his heart. That would have been letting him off easy. No, what she'd done was tear out his guts and stomp all over them.
Never again.
In one decisive move, he shut down the phone and set it on the nightstand. To answer the question in Layla's eyes, he said, "It wasn't important."
He slipped back into bed and snuggled her close. She sighed, nestling her head on his shoulder. He slid his arm around her waist. She was soft and warm and sexy. It felt good, being with her. Real good.
He let go a long breath and closed his eyes. As much as he wanted to relax and sink into sleep, his thoughts kept coiling back to Paige.
What the hell does she want…?

Once again, thanks to my awesome critique partner Denise. And many thanks to Sabrina, for her invaluable insights as a beta reader. Thanks as well to Chris for being my "technical advisor" on things Buffalonian. Any mistakes are strictly my own.
