“Alex…uh... what...” I was unable to form a coherent sentence.

“Mmm mmm.” Apparently he couldn’t either.

That humming sent me over the edge. I’d heard of “hummers,” but I didn’t think it was delivered by a man. Maybe it wasn’t and maybe that wasn’t his intent, but it felt amazing. “I need you inside me… Please… now…” I was turned on, and I needed relief from the pressure building inside me.

I felt just his tip push into me and pull out again. I tried to move my hips closer, but he held them in place.

“I’ve got you sweetheart.”

He thrust inside me, and I saw stars, which was pretty cool since I was used to seeing blackness. He let go of my hips, and we moved together as if music was on. Our bodies danced as one. I wasn’t going to last, and I needed him to be ready with me. I squeezed my hand between our legs and caressed him. He groaned, and I stopped, thinking I’d hurt him.

“Don’t stop, that feels amazing. Damn, Aubrey, do you know how hot you are? How good you are? How good you feel?” His lips were on mine, demanding and loving at the same time. His tongue mirrored his hips.

I was ready to explode. He pulled back, I opened my eyes, and I saw his face. He looked at me, and I saw his gorgeous face. I smiled and said, “Your eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue, like the depths of the sea.”

“Mmm mmm, thank you. Wait… You can see me?”

“Yes. Please, love me, Alex. I want to watch you, and I don’t know how long this will last.” I thrust my hips, praying for my sight to stay.

“I love you so much, you know that?” His voice was so pure, and I knew his love was too.

My heart filled. I watched him reach his climax, not even worrying about my own. I wanted to see the pleasure in his face. I saw his feelings pour out of him. His eyes never left mine. No words were needed, just our eyes locked together.
Please let this last…don’t think of anything bad…don’t think of that kiss…
I memorized every feature of his face. He faded, and my tears flowed. Alex tried to pull out of me.

“No. Please just stay.” I closed my eyes and sighed.

“It’s gone again, isn’t it?”

My vision was back to black, but I still pictured him over me, looking at me and loving me. “Yeah, but now your beautiful face was the last thing I saw.”

“Does your head hurt?”

“No, I’m fine. Really.” I heard him exhale and then what sounded like a stifled cry. I touched his cheeks and brought his head to my chest. “Alex, I’m okay, really.” I ran my hands down his back and back up to the nape of his neck. “Thank you for being here. Sorry I got upset. When my sight comes back like that, I get so excited and then terrified that it will never happen again. I will it to stay, but it never does.”

He kissed my chest. “Let’s think positively. Your surgery will be a success, and we’ll see the world together. I’ll take you places you never dreamed of. We’ll see the beauty of the waves, the aura of the moon, and the beauty of our family. We’re in this together. I want forever with you.” He brought his lips to mine and kissed me as if we were tasting each other for the first time.

We were side by side and still naked. Although we weren’t physically connected, I knew our souls and hearts were. My head rested on his smooth, taut chest. I loved the way I fit there. He talked about “forever” and “our family” again. I’d never wanted anything more.

We spent the next day getting ready for my parents—after we made love all morning. We stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things I knew my parents would enjoy, and we headed to his apartment. As we walked in, I realized I hadn’t been there since the accident. The smell of citrus hit me.

“It smells so clean in here.” He must have had a cleaning person take care of his place while he was in Paris.

“I had it cleaned while I was gone.”

I smirked. I was right. He wanted to sit on the balcony and have a glass of wine, which sounded like heaven. We were just about to order Chinese take-out when his phone rang.

“Alex Logan. No, that delivery wasn’t expected for two weeks. No, they can’t leave it now. We don’t have the storage for it.”

I listened and assumed it was someone at the club. The thought of the club made me shiver.

“Mike, just tell them to take it back and deliver in two weeks. Yeah, I’m serious.”

I could tell Alex was getting frustrated.
Who’s Mike?

“Isn’t Brett there? Fine, I’ll be there soon. Tell them to wait for me, and if they leave, they’ve lost my business. I’ll set them straight.” He hung up, and I heard the sound of his keys being picked up off the table. “Babe, I need to get to the club. Want to come? We can grab an early dinner afterward.”

My heart raced. I needed to go to the club at some point, but I couldn’t see what was going on or who was there. That was petrifying. My expression must have spoken volumes.

His arms wrapped around me. “If you don’t want to, I understand. You can hang here, and I’ll be back, with dinner, within the hour.”

I needed to go. It was late afternoon, so no one would be there. “I want to be with you. Okay, I’ll go.”

His fingers curled between mine, and he kissed my knuckles. “What’s wrong?”

I turned toward him. “I just haven’t been back to the club since… you know.”

“I know. It kills me that I…” Alex sighed. “That I caused all of this.” His voice got softer as he spoke.

I found his cheek with my palm. “I told you, you didn’t cause this. You need to believe that, Alex. We both played a part in what happened. That’s not what I’m worried about. Do you think Leah will be there? She looked so smug that night. I hate her.” I crossed my arms. I was getting more and more aggravated. I really did hate her. Not dislike. Honest-to-goodness hate. “I was so mortified. She was so pleased with herself when you kissed her. I get that you’re a hot guy and a great lover, but you’re
my
lover,
my
hot guy! She thinks she’s a beautiful piece of ass that everyone wants, and that night, you proved her right.”

Alex cleared his throat.

“Okay, what?”

“Are you done?” he asked.

I chuckled. “Yeah, I’m done.” I wasn’t close to being done. I wanted to rip her perfectly coiffed hair out of her brain-lacking head.

“First of all, thank you for calling me hot and a great lover.” He kissed my palm, and I felt his smile. “I’m not, nor do I want to be, with her. You’re the beautiful one, not her. To me, you’re the most beautiful woman, my beautiful woman. I only want you, and I’ll repeat that over and over until you believe me.”

“I believe you. I suppose we should leave and get this over with.”

His lips touched mine, and I relished the taste and smell of him. He took my hand and led me outside. We got in his car and headed off to the club.

He turned on the radio, and we listened to a playlist he had loaded. We listened to “Talking to the Moon,” and the words resonated with me. He had put that song on my tablet, and I loved it. I pictured him talking to the moon, hoping that I’d hear him. He’d told me that he had also talked to the waves.

He must have noticed my expression. “I like these songs too. They remind me of you.”

I nodded and noticed the car was stopped. We must be at the club. “I do know you only want me. I want you and only you. I always have.”

I felt him unbuckle my seatbelt, then the next thing I knew, I was hoisted onto his lap. My ass was backed up to the steering wheel.

He pulled my face down to his. He didn’t kiss me, but he whispered onto my lips, “I will love you until the day I die.”

I felt tears push against my eyes. That whisper was so hot that I felt it in my jeans. It may be fall and cool outside, but I was overheating. “I love you so much that it hurts sometimes.”

He kissed me, and I grinded on him. I didn’t care where we were. He gripped the back of my head, tangling my hair in his fingers, while his right hand moved under my sweater and over my lace bra. I swear the man had magic fingers. I moved my hips faster and felt like a teenager dry-humping in a car. But we weren’t teenagers. We didn’t have much room in his Maserati, but we didn’t need it.

“I want you. I need to be inside you.” His voice was rough, like he was ready to come apart. “I need to feel you around me. I’m hungry for you.”

Oh my God! I was going to have an orgasm if he didn’t stop talking. My movements became slower and more deliberate. He licked my neck from my shoulder to my ear. He bit the top of my ear, which made me squeal, and then he pressed his tongue in my mouth.

“What do you want, Aubrey?”

“I want—”

Before I could answer, his phone rang. I suddenly remembered where we were and why we were there.

“Shit.” He must have pushed his hands-free link because I heard the conversation. “Yeah?”

“Dude, get your ass in here. This guy’s a prick. Mike tried to reason with him before I got here,” Brett said.

“You can’t handle him? Hey, how did you know I was here?”

“I just pulled up and you uh… looked… busy. So I thought I’d try to handle this, but he wants you.”

Brett saw us? Was Julie with him? I needed to get off of Alex and out of his car. I shifted and his hand settled on my hip, preventing me from moving.

He sounded more annoyed. “Yeah, I’ll be right in. What the fuck is with this guy? I should fire them and cancel the whole order.”

Alex hung up, and I stayed stock-still. I felt his face in my hair and his mouth near my ear.

“You and me in my office as soon as I’m done with this guy. I want you on my desk, naked. Understood?”

All I could do was nod. Naked? In his office? I prayed his office had a dead bolt and a chain. Bad enough that Brett saw us doing the bump and grind. I was mortified. “Alex, who’s Mike?”

“He’s a bartender. I hired him when I went to Paris. I didn’t want to leave Brett and Tyler a man down. It freed up Ty to help with the business side of the club.”

We walked into the club, and Brett greeted us. He kissed my cheek and told me Julie was at the bar.

It sounded noisy. “Is it crowded in here?” I asked.

Brett told me there was a decent crowd, and I felt my face redden. How many people saw us in the parking lot?

Alex must have sensed my embarrassment. “I parked in the back. No one saw us, except for Brett.”

Alex laughed and walked me over to Julie, who pulled me into a hug. Alex kissed my cheek. He told me he’d be back in ten minutes, and then we would meet in his office. With a smack on the ass, he guided me to an empty barstool. That smack and the thought of his office made me damper than I already was.

“So, Miss Aubrey, I heard you were getting a little Maserati action… or was it the Maserati’s seat getting the action?” Julie giggled.

“Oh, look at who we have here,” said a nasty voice. “So you’re back trying to reclaim your man? Well, just so you know, you’re a little late. He was well taken care of while you were gone.” She whispered in my ear, “He’s better than I remembered. His lips are like velvet against mine. Let’s just say we did things that would make your head spin.”

My blood boiled. God, I hated her. Julie started to say something, but I cut her off. I slid off my stool, hanging on to the back to stabilize myself. Leah was taller than I was by about five inches since I didn’t have heels. “Julie, is Leah in front of me?”

I heard Leah huff, and I pictured her rolling her eyes and crossing her arms.

“Yes, directly in front of you.”

“Does she have heels on?”

“Yup, about four inches. Your head reaches her chin. If you reach out about ten inches, you could touch her. I got your back, so go ahead.”

“Want to know what color bra I’m wearing too?” Leah sounded disgusted.

I grinned. “No, that won’t be necessary.” My palm connected with what I thought was the majority of her cheek. I heard Julie laugh.

Leah gasped. “You blind bitch! You want to go rounds with me?”

I thrust out my chest, trying to portray a tough girl. I was just about to challenge her when I heard him.

“What the hell is going on here?” Alex sounded pissed!

“Nothing I can’t handle, honey,” I said.

“You wish, you bitch. Julie, get your hands off me and let Helen Keller fight her own battles.” Leah was trying to sound fierce.

“You call her a name again, and you’re out of here for good, got it?” Alex ordered.

I couldn’t resist calling Leah out on her lie. “Alex, should you talk like that to the woman who took such good care of you while I was away? The one you did things with that would make my head spin?”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

I wasn’t sure who that question was directed at, so I decided to answer. “I’m talking about your lover here, the one who satisfied your needs while I was in Paris.”

“Leah, what the fuck? Why did you lie to Aubrey?”

“Alex, this homely bitch slapped me. I want to know what you’re going to do about it!”

“That’s it. You’re done. I never want to see you here again. Do you understand? If I hear that you even tried to get in, I’ll press charges on you for trespassing so fast your head will spin. Now get the fuck out!” Alex’s voice scared me a little.

Note to self: don’t piss him off.
I heard sniffles. Was she playing the “poor me” card?

“Tyler! Get your… whatever she is out of here. If you want to see her, do it on your own time. She isn’t allowed in my club again.”

Leah said, “Wait until Daddy hears. He won’t be happy, and I’m sure your father won’t be pleased either. We’re supposed to be together. You aren’t supposed to be with her.” Leah sniffled like a child who didn’t get her way. What would she do next? Throw herself on the floor and throw a temper tantrum? I wished I could see that if she did.

“I should be with you? Well, you can forget that. It won’t happen…ever.” Alex sounded exasperated and ticked off. “I’m in love with Aubrey. Get that through your thick skull. As far as our fathers are concerned, it’ll be a cold day in hell when I let either of them dictate who I spend my life with. Now get the fuck out of here!”

Holy crap, I’d never heard Alex so upset. I was having second thoughts about adding to this situation. I heard Tyler tell her to “come on,” and then there was silence.
