Awesome.
And the white clapboard farmhouse in front of her looked breathtaking. A lonely two-story building with a white picket fence. Okay, so maybe because of all the snow plastering the roof and everywhere, the house might be another color but hey, if she got her way, that farmhouse would be white and so would the fence.
And in the background, through the swirling snowflakes she spied a dark ominous building. The barn, she presumed. It would be painted red. Yeah, a red barn.
“What are you smiling at?” Evan asked as he switched off the Christmas music and turned off the truck.
“You,” she whispered. “I’m smiling at you because I feel like I’ve just come home.”
Gosh, where had those words come from?
She expected him to jolt and start up the car and bring her back to the club’s parking lot and for him to tell her she was moving way too fast.
Maybe she was, but it just felt right to tell him what she felt. Felt right to trust him.
He grinned, that awesome smile that made her heart leap with joy.
“You know what? I’ve been thinking the same thing. Call me crazy or maybe that’s why I was so damn scared shitless to ask you out on a real date, because something was telling me that you are the girl for me.”

Surprise breezed through Roxie at his comment.
Evan shook his head and frowned, staring at her, almost willing her to understand.
“Am I making sense?” he asked.
Hell no.
She could read what she figured to be desperation in his eyes. As if he were hoping she wouldn’t think he was totally nuts or was some insane serial killer or something.
“I mean we barely know each other and this might sound crazy but it runs in my family.”
Roxie blinked in puzzlement. “Okay, you lost me. What runs in your family?”
Being crazy? Oh no, that would just be her luck for him to be crazy.
“It happened to my brother, to my dad and to my sister. This love at first sight thing. It’s the family curse.”
Shit.
The truck shuddered as a blast of wind snapped against it. But Roxie didn’t quite feel it from the shock of hearing his confession.
Love at first sight was the family curse?
Oh man, had she been dropped into some freaking fantasy world or something?
“You look stunned. I guess I shouldn’t have dropped it on you like this.”
Roxie couldn’t help but laugh. “I think family curses like that are just what I need.
There’s nothing more in the world that I would love than to wake up every Christmas morning with you, Evan.”
He looked properly shocked.
“And tomorrow morning will just happen to be the first Christmas,” she said boldly, loving this newfound freedom he’d given to her.
“A hot, sexy woman for Christmas. I like the sound of that,” Evan said. His eyes twinkled and he leaned over, his hands tangling in her hair.

When his mouth melted over hers like white-hot lava, Roxie once again felt as if she’d finally come home.
