“Well, I applied for a job, an associate professorship…

and I got it.” He looked so pleased for her, some of her worry lifted.

“That’s wonderful.”

“It is sort of, Nick, but it’s in Auckland. Auckland, New Zealand.”

Nick laughed. “I know where Auckland is.” His shoulders began to shake and Lissy sat up against the headboard of the bed.

“Nick, it’s not funny. You’ll be here and I’ll be across the Tasman Sea. I can’t refuse it now.”

“Oh, Lissy, this is meant to be.” He stopped laughing, but his lips were still upturned in a huge smile as he spoke.

“That will be a great place for me to base myself to begin my next research project. I would much rather be out in the field, back on a boat than working from a university base. I can see myself living on a sailing boat in the marina in Auckland harbor. How would you feel about that?” Nick leaned over and put his head on the pillow next to her. “You’re still fragile,” he said. “I don’t know whether to ask you now.”

Lissy looked up at him confused.

“Ask me what?”

“How would you feel about living on a boat in Auckland?”

Her answer was unspoken and she demonstrated her acceptance to Nick’s quiet satisfaction. She wound her arms around his neck and kissed him soundly, despite her fragility.

“I guess that’s a yes,” he said.

Author Bio

Annie’s love of reading and history began at an early age and she was a child who always carried a book or two, no matter what she was doing. Her love of writing developed as soon as she could read and write, and continued throughout school and university, and the completion of an English and History degree. Until recently, Annie’s writing skills were put to use in an administrative career, writing boring presentations and submissions while dreaming up romances in her head. The romances won and she decided to retire from from the world of full-time work to spend time on writing the romance stories in her head. She now spends her working day sitting in her writing chair overlooking the beach, weaving romances into all her favorite travel destinations. Annie loves writing about families and their trials and tribulations as they seek happiness and romance, and enjoys having her characters reappear in later books.
