"I—"
"Tony!" said a syrupy voice that screeched down my spine like nails on a chalkboard. I knew that voice. And now I understood why Antonio was in such a rush to get rid of me.
He gave me one last look that teetered somewhere between anger and pleading, then turned his back on me.
I watched, open mouthed as he walked straight to the limo and greeted the woman who was waiting there for him. I saw his arm slip around her waist.
And then I saw him kiss her.
A moment later, they got into the limousine and the door closed. The car drove away, leaving me staring after them.
"—ma’am?"
I blinked, realizing the cab driver had been speaking to me.
"Are you all right?" he said again. "You look like you’ve seen a ghost."
"Not a ghost," I mumbled. No. Although I did wish the wicked witch had remained buried in his past. This woman was real. Very real.
And her name was Naomi.
