The hole that had opened when the stitches released should have been mending together, but it was actually getting bigger. We took pictures and sent them to the nursing staff at recovery house. When we heard back from the nurses they told Sheelagh everything looked fine and the hole would heal from the inside out. Sheelagh wasn’t happy with their answer but went along with it.

The next night after some wine and dinner we had a pretty big fight. What you have to know is that Sheelagh very seldom argues or raises her voice with me. Over supper she said she wanted us to laugh more like she did with her roommate from the recovery house, and she wanted me to ‘lighten up’ with regards to various slang terms for vagina. I am way past using silly terms such as pussy and kitty.

Naturally, that got my back up. I got angry with her for wanting me to change even more than I already had. It just got uglier from there. It was one of those unfortunate times I got caught up in the fight instead of looking for the reason behind the words. We did eventually end up apologizing to each other and went to bed on good terms

Over the next few days Sheelagh remained concerned because more stitches were coming out, and the opening wasn’t closing. She contacted the nurses again and eventually received a phone call from one of the doctors. The doctor clarified that there never was a problem worth being so alarmed about. Sheelagh’s body was healing faster than average and what was happening was supposed to happen. We were extremely relieved to have our worries put to rest.

Final Words

It's not uncommon for people who have completed GRS to get the blues. They often view having GRS as the event that finalizes their transition and have spent years doing what is needed to prepare for it, then it is over. So much focus and effort, and its finally over. Sheelagh seemed more relieved and at peace than blue. I guess that shouldn’t come as a surprise because Sheelagh always has been one of a kind!

Sheelagh returned from her last appointment with her endocrinologist, and he wished her well on returning to work and losing weight. She left the appointment feeling happy - her transition was complete. When returning to her car she felt confident and didn’t care when shorter women looked her way.

Sheelagh was now a woman in body and soul. I was happy for her. The part of Sheelagh that I loved when I met her was still there. No longer was she keeping a part of herself from the world and from me. Now the love that had been there from the beginning was purer because there was nothing left to hide.

It was a hell of a journey and I’m glad we have come to the end. Writing this book brought back many painful and difficult times, but one thing this story has always been is a love story.

A true love story that never ends.

If you enjoyed my story or it helped you in any way would you please leave a nice review of the book. After all, every good review helps.
