Kathryn Weathersby is an independent scholar living in Washington, D.C. She has pioneered the study of the international history of the Korean War through the use of Russian archives and has published a number of articles on the topic. She is now working on a book on the Soviet Union and the Korean War.

Odd Arne Westad was director of research at the Norwegian Nobel Institute, and is now reader in International History at the London School of Economics. He is the author of a number of books and articles on Cold War history, including
Cold War and Revolution: Soviet-American Rivalry and the Origins of the Chinese Civil War, 1944-1946
(1994) and, most recently,
The Fall of Détente: Soviet-American Relations during the Carter Years
(1997).

Yang Kuisong is senior research fellow at the Institute of Modem History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. A leading authority on the history of the Chinese Communist Party, he has written and published widely on the CCP's external relations. His most recent major publication is
Zhonggong yu Mosike de guanxi
[The Chinese Communist Party's relations with Moscow] (1996).

Shu Guang Zhang is professor of diplomatic history at the University of Maryland. He is the author of
Deterrence and Strategic Culture: Chinese-American Confrontations, 1949-1958
(1992) and
Mao's Military Romanticism: China and the Korean War, 1950-1953
(1995), and coeditor (with Chen Jian) of
Chinese Communist Foreign Policy and the Cold War in Asia, 1944-1950: Documentary Evidence
(1996). He is currently writing an international history of the Western embargo against China in the 1950s.
