She stared into the water and bent down, disturbing the water’s surface with her fingers. She sighed and thought of Jordan and the lake, she thought of how he would have liked it here. She pushed him out of her mind, as she felt tears sting at her eyes. Getting up, she turned around swiftly walking out of the opening.
This time she walked straight ahead, and there was a little path leading through the middle of the trees. There was a fountain on the right hand side of the path, but as she delved deeper it became more overgrown. It was so scenic; the whole ground was covered with bluebells, bees were buzzing around her and there was a small frail bench hidden in ivy.
Elizabeth followed the path deeper and deeper, how big was this garden? She thought. She heard a cough behind some trees.
A young girl stepped out. She looked no older than eighteen. The girl looked around cautiously, staring behind Elizabeth.
“Are you alone?” She said quickly.
“Yes I’m alone,” when she spoke it sounded unfamiliar, the girl stepped out on to the path, directly in front of her.
“I need to tell you something.” She whispered. The girl looked at Elizabeth anxiously.
“What is it?” Elizabeth said curiously. The girl bit her lip.
“Please don’t tell anyone I told you, don’t even acknowledge me if you see me in the house.” She looked hurried.
“Ok.” Elizabeth said wanting her to get to the point.
“Do you love Lorcan?”
What sort of question is that for someone to ask? Elizabeth contemplated telling her the truth but wondered if the girl could be a spy of Lorcan’s.
“Why?” She thought this was the best answer.
“You need to know the truth, I heard him talking too Sable in the room upstairs.” That must be the name of the man who is constantly following Lorcan around like a lost dog, she thought.
“He said, he was planning on like taking over the world, I know that sounds far-fetched and unlikely but he sounded dead serious and not just that, he wants to make you human again and use some Limnade or something to give you immortality.”
Elizabeth took a step back. Horrified she placed her hands over her mouth. She tried to work it out, and after all it does make sense. Elizabeth knew that Lorcan didn’t like that she is a vampire.
Witches and warlocks weren’t fond of vampires, seeing as it was supposed to be a curse to punish, but if anything it gave someone everything they wanted; immortality, strength, beauty. Their own curse had backfired on them, creating a new monster.
“Please don’t say anything.” The girl pleaded “I’m just telling you, because you may be able to help.” That had answered Elizabeth’s next question, why was she telling her all of this? The girl carried on
“If he tells the humans, they will hunt us down and kill us all. They outnumber us by hundreds of thousands. You’re the only one he trusts and won’t kill, please help us.”
She looked deadly serious and Elizabeth didn’t know what to say, her plan was to kill him anyway but he did have remarkable powers now and she knew she could use some help.
“I want to, but I can’t. I want to kill him, but I don’t know how.” Elizabeth said hesitantly.
The young girl delved into her small backpack and pulled out an old knife. It didn’t look like anything special. She looked at the girl amused.
“I’m sure; I’ll just go and stab the now immortal warlock with an old knife.” Elizabeth sniggered, she couldn’t believe that she had taken t
his girl seriously for a moment.
“This is not just any old knife; it’s a family heirloom, from a very powerful warlock.” The girl looked offended and caressed the handle of the knife with her thumb. She passed it to Elizabeth. She looked around for watching eyes, but no one was around.
Elizabeth grabbed the blade of the knife.
“Careful.” The girl jumped at the sight of blood
.
“I am immortal.” Elizabeth reminded her. The girl looked to the floor as Elizabeth examined the handle.
“This should have enough power to kill him, or at least slow him down. But you need other vampires to hold him down, he has too much power, please don’t try this alone. Only someone really brave can do it alone.” The girl said nothing else but walked off, closing her backpack. Elizabeth slid it under her sleeve, keeping hold of the handle.
She sat down on the bench and tried to make sense of everything that was happening. Her head felt as if it would implode, so much had happened recently and now this. She ground her teeth as she thought to the girl’s last comment.
‘Only someone really brave can do it alone’ the words echoed around her head. So this girl thought she wasn’t brave? She would prove her wrong. She thumped her hand down onto the bench. The wood fell apart and collapsed.
Elizabeth stood up and looked at the massive hole on the right of the bench. There was no way she was giving up her strength, beauty and speed for Lorcan. She liked being a vampire.
She was strong enough to fight her enemies. If she had been offered the chance to be human a hundred years ago, she would have jumped at the chance. But so much had changed now, and leaving her human would make her weak and vulnerable to any of her enemies. She ran back to the house, knocking over a statue on the way.
chapter twenty
Elizabeth ran through the door, slamming it shut. Silence protruded through the main hall. She hurried down the narrow corridor until she entered the hall. The men and woman watched her in silence. She stomped up the staircase.
Echoes of her heels against the marble were the only sounds that could be heard. She felt their eyes watching her as she turned the corner. She saw her door, and to her surprise there were no guards. Had Lorcan begun to trust her? She chuckled under her breath as she thought of Lorcan and his stupidity. Surely he knew it was a bad idea to trust her? She pushed open her door, locking it behind her.
She ran over to the bed and slumped over the edge. She sobbed into the quilt, and punched the mattress, making a couple of pillows fall to the floor. She sniffed and looked up to the now fixed window.
When did Lorcan fix it? She wondered. She felt sick with rage; there was no way that she wanted to become a human again. Sure, if anyone had offered that to her a hundred years ago she would have jumped at the chance, but now. No. She clenched her fists in determination. There was no way she was going to let
Lorcan had taken everything away from her. Nor did she care if he told the human’s everything. She did not care much for witches and warlocks either way. Let there be a war, I am not bothered. She thought. She was lost in thought until a loud cough came from behind her. She jumped up and turned around.
Lorcan was standing there expressionless. How did he get in? And how did she not hear him? She thought anxiously.
“How long have you been standing there?” She croaked.
“Long enough,” Elizabeth gulped and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes momentarily. She gave herself a mental note to not show her emotions ever again, even in a locked room.
“What’s wrong?” Lorcan said curiously, as eh tilted his head slightly to the left. Elizabeth racked her brains, trying to come up with a convincing excuse.
“I didn’t want to say anything. It’s just I haven’t fed in weeks, and I am so thirsty.” She said putting her hand up to her throat.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” He did not look convinced.
“I know you don’t like it when I feed. I didn’t want to seem unattractive to you.” She looked at him softly and blinked.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket and held his hand up to her, as if he was demanding silence. He turned his back to her, and she took the opportunity to look around the room and see an escape route. Just the window, she looked at the glass and remembered how he has a shield around this place.
However, he did remove the guards. She wondered if he had lifted the shield as-well. She could see her chance as he mumbled on the phone. She knew she would have to act quickly; after all he was very powerful now.
“Ok, give me half an hour.” Lorcan demanded. She heard him hang up the phone and turn back to her. Damn, too late. She thought.
“Sable is going to bring you up a human to feed on. He is also going to find Cecile; I know she has been looking for you.” She gasped. Cecile, how had she forgotten about her?
She made another mental note to find her as soon as she can and tell her to run into the gardens. As soon as she kills Lorcan, she can meet her, and they can run away together. This time for good, no coming back, she thought.
“Thank you.” Elizabeth breathed. He walked over to her and sandwiched her hand between his. He opened his mouth as if to talk, but then leant in and kissed her hand. She felt the knife scrape against her arm. He led her to the bed and carefully picked her up, placing her on the bed. He didn’t take his eyes off hers for a second.
She looked at him wide eyed, she felt incredibly uncomfortable. He slithered his hand up her leg, when he reached the edge of her panties he stopped and groaned. He pushed himself on to her, pressing his long erection into her groin. He undid her skirt, revealing her panties and smooth legs.
He peeled off his top, showing off his smooth stomach. She thought of Jordan, and when he took his top off. Biting down on her lip, she remembered his lips on hers, how it felt soft and warm. How he nibbled, how he cupped her breasts, taking her nipple in his mouth. Lorcan had removed his belt and pulled down his trousers.
She snapped back to reality, she felt slightly turned on but only because of her own thoughts. She wanted to stop this.
“I thought we were going to wait?” She questioned him, his lips curved into a smirk.
“Why can’t we do it now? I think that it will be special no matter where we are, providing you’re with the person you love. Don’t you?”
She couldn’t think of a reason not to. She hated that she couldn’t use periods as an excuse, like some women do. Damn it.
“Guess so.”
He slipped his fingers under her panties, stroking her clitoris. She was already wet, from thinking about Jordan, and their sex. Lorcan smiled and took this as she was turned on by him.
He excitedly grabbed her breasts and squeezed hard. She lay still as he placed two fingers inside of her. He was not gentle, nor skilled. He unzipped her jacket; the knife cut into her skin. She quickly pulled it out from her sleeve and plunged it into Lorcans chest.
“Sorry.” She gasped as she got up and shot towards the door. Lorcan pulled out the knife and dropped it into the sheets. Blood spilled over the bed, as he watched Elizabeth attempt to escape.
The door wouldn’t open, panicking she turned the key and finally got it open. She sighed with relief and tried to run into the hall. She was thrown back into the bedroom. Lorcan had kept the shield up, or put it back up after he saw the distrust in her.
Lorcan loomed over her. Blood dripped onto her hair as she stared up to him with her mouth open. He grabbed the knife from the bed and threw it at the door, making Elizabeth jump.
“Did you genuinely think that would work?” He spat angrily. She closed her eyes and pressed her lips together. She knew she could not get away now. She didn’t even get a chance to get Cecile.
“You run into a frightened girl in my garden.” How did he know? She figured the girl had actually been a spy. Either that or someone had seen them.
“She is one of my people, loyal to me. Then magically hands you a knife to kill me, I didn’t think you were that naive.” He sat down and placed his head into the palms of his hands.
“I am so disappointed in you. You have put me in such an awkward position. I wanted you to love me of your own free will. But I can see that won’t happen.”
He stormed past her and opened walked into the hall.
“TAKE HER.” He shouted. Two men came running into the room. Elizabeth jumped to her feet and tried to fight them off. She hit scratched and kicked them, but they didn’t budge. She felt weaker than usual.
“What has he done to me?” She said tearfully. They looked into her frightened eyes and nodded to each other. One grabbed her legs, the other her arms and carried her out into the hall.
Had he removed the shield again? She thought. She was fed up with magic. Warlocks and witches gathered on the hallway, watching her. In the corner of her eye, she spotted the girl who had given her the knife. The girl smiled cruelly and raised an eyebrow to Elizabeth.
“YOU BITCH! YOU TOLD HIM. YOU SET ME UP. I WILL KILL YOU; YOU WATCH!” She screamed as they carried her into the hall she was in earlier. They threw her onto the steps, cracking her rib on the stone.
“OUCCHHHH! THANKS FOR THAT!” She screamed after the men. They closed the doors, leaving her alone. She got to her feet and looked around for an exit. She went to walk over to the window but was stopped. She felt around her, and there was a shield around her.
