“We should go.” She got up and stormed towards the mansion but was pulled back by Jordan.

He looked into her teary eyes and smiled gently. He wrapped his arms around her tightly; she rested her head on his shoulder and let a tear fall.

He rubbed her back and sighed. He still cared, and even if he didn’t have his mum, sister or Elizabeth, he still had a good friend in Abbelonna.

They pulled away and walked arm in arm to the door.

chapter thirty two

Jordan snuck up the stairs whilst Abbelonna distracted everyone with a new spell she had learnt. He watched as she turned water into liquid gold with admiration.

He reached the top of the stairs and hid in-between the two walls in which he had hid last time. He could hear people clapping.

Footsteps pattered up the stairs as nine witches and one warlock headed towards their rooms. Abbelonna followed closely behind them and looked around cautiously.

“Jordan.” She whispered. He stepped out and looked behind him.

“This way.” He followed her down the hall and was confronted by a bright orange door. She ducked and walked through it. It was smaller than the other doors he had seen here. He entered the room and saw another corridor.

“It’s like a maze.” He whispered.

“Shush.” She said quickly and walked off to the left. She opened a brown door and walked through.

“Another corridor?” he laughed, but it wasn’t. He was surprised to see a large king size bed with a patterned quilt. The dressing table was covered in makeup and the walls were a light indigo. He had expected black with pentagrams everywhere. Lorcans voice echoed outside of her door.

“In here.” She pointed to her wardrobe but it was too late, Lorcan was turning the handle. She pushed Jordan behind the door and opened it.

“Lorcan,” she smiled. “I was just coming to see you.” He went to walk in but she put her arm across the door stopping him.

“We can talk out here.” He looked around suspiciously.

“Why?” He said as he peered around her room.

“Girly stuff.” She said not really sure what she meant by that. Lorcan didn’t either but dropped it. They closed the door and Jordan stepped out and breathed. His heart pounded too loudly in his chest as if it wanted to give away his position. He thought Lorcan was going to come in and find him. He listened through the door and heard their rushed voices. “We will perform the ritual tonight.” He said excitedly.

“What about, umm, Selena?” James, one of the other warlocks said hesitantly.

“Don’t… I will, eventually sort it out.” James sighed.

“Your choice,” he muttered.

“You got a Limnade then.” Abbelonna said sourly.

“Yes, now meet me downstairs at 10-o-clock. Abbelonna you will be helping with the chants.” He said dismissing her.

When Lorcan’s back was turned she did a small courtesy and a sarcastic smile making James snigger. She opened the door and walked back into the room.

“We need to do it tonight. We have no choice.” She said biting her lip.

“I agree,” Jordan knew if he didn’t he would die. He mentally prepared himself whilst Abbelonna faffed around with some books.

“I will be right back; I need to find a couple books and a black candle.”

She walked towards the door.

“I will put a spell on my door, so no-one can get in. They will think it’s a wall.” Jordan nodded and she left, leaving him to his thoughts. He looked down to the floor, her carpet was a place lilac colour; it reminded him of Chloe’s room.

He buried his head in his hands and felt tears yet again prickle at his eyes. He felt nauseous and wasn’t sure if it was because of the lack of food or recent events.

“Chloe I am so sorry.” He whispered. He knew she couldn’t hear him, but he had to say it out loud, at least once. He bit down hard on his lip, attempting to prevent more tears from spilling.

He felt as if someone had stabbed him in the chest, leaving a hole where his heart is. How had everything gone from being so normal, to his world being turned upside down within the space of a couple of months? He had only one regret, he wished he had let himself enjoy it more.

Lorcan’s face swirled around his thoughts, rage bubbled inside of him, knowing he was in the same house as him. He wondered why Lorcan had taken everything from him, when he didn’t even know him. He stopped Chloe from coming back; he didn’t even try to save her. He wished he had seen through Lorcan that night and just found a way to save Chloe.

Although he loves Elizabeth, he loves Chloe more, family will always be more important to him. He gritted his teeth and stared angrily at himself in the mirror.

I should have stayed away from Elizabeth, spoken to my mum more, made sure Chloe was ok. I should have seen through my dad’s girlfriend. This is my entire fault, and now the people I love are dead or insane, because of me. He thought angrily before punching the mirror.

The glass shattered and landed on the dressing table. His hand was bleeding. He swallowed hard embracing the pain. It distracted him momentarily from the pain, but as soon as that pain was gone it all came rushing back.

Sometimes he hoped to simply go to sleep and to not wake up. Or that this was one long nightmare that would soon end, this all seemed bizarre, something you would only dream about, right? Suddenly, before he could stop himself, he felt it all build up and wept uncontrollably into Abbelonna’s pillow.

His nose was soon blocked and he was coughing as he tried to breath. He cried for ages, letting it all out. The pain of losing your family cuts deeper than anything he had ever experienced. He heard the door creak and sat up quickly, wiping his nose and mouth on his sleeve.

“Oh my, what’s the matter?”  Abbelonna dropped her books and ran over to Jordan, pulling him into her arms.

He sobbed on her shoulder, he felt weak and foolish but she didn’t laugh, nor did she think he was weak, which surprised him.

“I... have… lost… everything.” He cried. He stroked his hair, soothing his pain.

“I know how you feel. I can only promise that, although the pain will never disappear, it will soon bury itself so deep, that you can learn to live with it.” He looked up to her and saw sadness in her eyes.

“My whole family was killed by a vampire, including my one year old brother…” Her voice trailed off and he held her hand. He had always thought she was so sour, he now understood why.

Warmth spread through him when he looked at her, he had never had such an understanding friend before.

“I am sorry that happened to you.” Her expression softened and she let out a small smile. They were both lost souls, floating in limbo trying to find anything to hold on to.

She held on to Lorcan and he held on to Elizabeth. No one had said anything for a few minutes and they both just stared at each other.

“I have to tell you something.” She said quietly.

“I know.” He leant in and she leant away for a moment, but was soon captivated by his scent. She felt his eyes boar into hers, his lips so close to hers.

He kissed her briefly on the lips then pulled away. She didn’t mean to, but she grabbed him and kissed him hard on the mouth, and he kissed her back.

Their mouths mouthed in sync, he ran his hand through her hair and pushed his tongue into her mouth.

They both hated that they were doing this, but they couldn’t help it.

chapter thirty three

Jordan pulled away and breathed heavily.

Abbelonna took a deep breath and looked at Jordan with bewilderment. She placed her hand on her chest, her heart felt as if it was beating a thousand times a minute.

“This isn’t right. I love Lorcan.” He nodded and took her hand.

She hesitated but let him bring her towards him. She thought he was going to kiss her again, but he didn’t. Instead he looked into her eyes then to the floor.

He guessed that she would never see past Lorcan, Lorcan didn’t love her that much was obvious.

“Trust me.” He said as he gently stroked her hand with his thumb.

“We will do this, everything will work out.” She nodded and closed her eyes briefly. She was sure of her feelings for Lorcan, but Jordan had walked into her life, in love with someone whom she hated, and settled on his heart. She chose to ignore this; she knew as long as Elizabeth and Lorcan
lived; their friendship could never blossom into a romance. She was surprised though, she never had someone as kind and handsome as Jordan want to kiss her, without being under a spell.

She blushed slightly and looked down to her feet. She gathered herself and sat on the edge of her bed. Jordan walked to the middle of the room and picked up the books and candle she had dropped earlier. He placed them in her lap, she didn’t look at him.

Jordan didn’t feel guilty, after all Elizabeth had kissed Lorcan from what he heard, and he enjoyed it. He hadn’t felt that happy in ages.

It didn’t feel like kissing Elizabeth though. His affection towards them both was strong, but completely different.

Elizabeth compelled him; she was alluring, sexy, and witty. She kept him excited. He was always happy to see her. Abbelonna didn’t make him feel that way, but she did make him feel loved and cared for, he felt relaxed around her. He decided to be friends with Abbelonna and nothing more.

“So plan for tonight,” she said perking up. Jordan sat down and listened intently.

“Everyone will be there, including me, which means you need to get there without being seen. No one should be walking around but be on your guard anyway.” She said sternly. Jordan nodded.

“Then, wait outside until I shout for you. I will take him down with an old spell from this book.” She pointed to an old brown book on her desk.

“No-one should try and stop me seeing as most of them dislike him. Those who do I will also take down. Whilst I am doing that, you need to cast the binding spell on him, so when he wakes up, he won’t be able to move.” Jordan’s expression shifted from content to worry, he had to pretend that he was fully in on this, if not she would suspect something was up.

“I don’t know how to do it properly, what if I get it wrong?” She sighed.

“You won’t, you may not be a warlock anymore, but you do possess the Limnades powers, it should come to you naturally.” He looked to the floor, he still hadn’t told her, that he was never in-fact a warlock. He thought it best to keep it quiet, at least until after he kills Lorcan.

“I will then feed him the potion, you grab Elizabeth and run. Then you can take her away on your white horse and ride off into the distance.” She said with sarcasm, Jordan laughed.

“What a lovely fairy tale and you tell it so well.” She rolled her eyes.

“Please be careful. She will end up hurting you again, I don’t want that.” She said gently. He smiled at her and turned to the book on the bed. He liked that she was overprotective.

Abbelonna began to brew her love potion for Lorcan whilst he pretended to work on the body binding spell, when in fact he was memorizing the spell to kill Lorcan.

Jordan pulled on his jacket and ruffled his hair. He looked down to the brown stained grimoire that lay by his feet.

Abbelonna turned her head and smiled sweetly.

“You will be fine.” Jordan nodded and looked out the window to the garden. He stared at the trees where his dad was hidden and wanted to see him.

“My dad needs some food, I’m going to go and check on him.” He took a couple steps forward but Abbelonna stopped him.
