“Mrs. Cole, will Mr. Wade be staying for dinner?”

CeCe raised her gaze to Wade. “Will he?”

“Maria, can you put a hold on that dinner for, I don’t know, about an hour, hour and a half?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Then I reckon I’ll stay.” He pushed off the wall and grabbed CeCe’s hand.

“Where are we going?” CeCe asked as he pulled her across the foyer.

“You really have to ask?”

No. The heated glance he sent her answered the question for him.

Inside her bedroom, Wade closed the door. But he didn’t take her to the bed. He didn’t tear off her clothes or his own.

Instead he sat on the wing chair by the window and pulled her into his lap.

“Chair sex?” she asked. She eyed the high arms and back. “That might be tough.”

“We’re not having sex.”

“We’re not?” Her voice rose high with surprise.

The corner of Wade’s mouth tipped up. “A’ight. We are, but not right this minute.”

That was more like the Wade she knew.

“Then what are we doing, right this minute?”

Making out would be good. She already felt like a damned teenager around him. She might as well act like one too.

“We’re going to talk.”

“Okay. About?”

“Us.”

Her heart thundered. “Us?”

The doctor’s words niggled at the back of her brain. He’d said she shouldn’t be an
us
at least for a year, maybe two. She’d only made it two weeks. Not two years.

But to be fair, she hadn’t pursued this relationship and she wasn’t the one to bring up the subject now. She’d been good and followed orders. As much as it had killed her to do it, she hadn’t even texted Wade to tell him she’d landed safely.

The whole time CeCe had been holding the internal debate with herself and the echo of her doctor’s words in her own head, Wade had looked as if he was in pain.

Oh, God. She was so stupid. Maybe he wanted to make it clear to her that they would never be anything more than sex so she didn’t get confused by his long distance booty call.

She turned her full attention to him. Delaying the inevitable wouldn’t solve anything.

“Wade, what do you want to say?”

“This—you and me—it isn’t just about sex for me. Not anymore.”

Her eyes widened. “Then what is this between you and me?”

“Hell if I know.” He drew in a breath. “But I’m pretty sure I’m having . . . feelings.”

His expression when he said the word—feelings—was so telling CeCe had to hide her smile. It was as if he was shocked and appalled at the mere fact he had them. As if the word tasted bad in his mouth.

“And these feelings, can you put a name to them perhaps?” She bit her lip and waited, her own feelings soaring.

Obviously unhappy she’d pressed him further, he pulled his mouth to one side. Finally, he huffed out a breath.

He was having trouble maintaining eye contact as he said, “I think I probably love you. I know. I don’t near deserve you. Tell me to get the hell out and I’ll understand.”

She cupped his face in her hands, forcing him to look at her. “I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you.”

He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, right.”

“Shut up and kiss me.” She leaned in but before she pressed her mouth to his, she repeated his words back to him. “And I think I probably love you too.”

He let out a breath, his relief visible before he crashed into her mouth. Before she knew what had happened, Wade had stood with her in his arms and they were tumbling onto her bed.

“Now we’re having sex.” He grinned.

“I figured that.”

Wade sobered as he braced over her. “I’m not gonna lie. I have no idea how to go about making this thing work between me and you. All I know is I’m willing to do whatever it takes. I hope that’s good enough.”

“Yes. That’s good enough. And you know, I was thinking how I wouldn’t mind spending some more time in Texas.”

His eyes flew wide. “Would you?”

“I would. If you wanted me to.”

“Hell yeah, I want you to.” His eyes narrowed. “Don’t you know I always want you? Day and night. When I’m trying to work. When I’m trying to sleep. All I can think about is you.”

“Good.” She smiled.

“Yeah, I figured you’d like hearing that.” He shook his head but his amusement was soon replaced by his concentration as he focused on her pencil skirt. “I’m liking this sexy secretary look.”

“Secretary?” She lifted a brow. “Sexy
CEO
, thank you.”

“Fine.” He grinned. “Now let’s make you a sexy naked CEO.”

“Only if you’ll be my naked cowboy.”

“A bit of a stretch but I think I can make it work.” He ran his hands down her body, over her clothes as he straddled her. “God, I missed you.”

“I missed you too.” More than she’d been willing to admit even to herself.

His gaze hit on her bedside table and the drawer filled with lube and toys. He shook his head. “I’m so crazy about you, I might even let you do to me what you were trying.”

She had to control a surprised laugh. “Wow, that is crazy.”

“I know. That’s what I’m saying. You make me insane.” He leaned low and spoke close enough he could kiss her in between his sentences. “You make me want to be things I’m not. Do things I never wanted to do.”

Wade shook his head, once again looking baffled at the whole situation.

Being in love was obviously a new thing for him.

She fell in love too fast and Wade not at all—complete opposites, the two of them made a hell of a pair. But maybe that was a good thing.

Two halves of one whole. Yin and yang. They’d complement each other. Like a partnership. CeCe liked the idea of that.

Almost giddy with anticipation, she reached up and stroked the stubble on his cheeks. “It’s okay, baby. I’ll be gentle.”

Wade let out a sigh. “Yup. Completely insane.”

“Mmm, hmm.” She nodded. “I love you though.”

“That’s damn good because I’m completely in love with you.” He drew in and blew out a long slow breath.

For a moment, he looked a little pale in spite of his tan and she seriously feared he might pass out.

“Wow. This love stuff is completely out of my wheelhouse.” After swallowing hard, Wade brought his gaze up to meet hers. “Can we fuck now, please? At least I’m good at that.”

As far as CeCe was concerned, Wade was pretty good at the love stuff too, in spite of the fact it obviously scared the hell out of him.

She smiled at his discomfort and teased, “Yes, my golden-tongued poet, we can fuck now.”

His eyes widened as he laughed. “I’ll show you golden-tongued.”

He slid down her body while pushing up her skirt and CeCe was very glad he’d told Maria to hold dinner. This could take awhile.
