Soft pressure below her neck dipped into the hollow behind her clavicle. Hot breath blazed a trail to her breast where his tongue swirled around a stiff nipple. Her back arched slowly, greeting his kiss. Despite a deep desire to clutch him to her chest, she forced her hands to remain at her sides. Soft pumps of fist rubbing cock shook the sawhorse. She pictured him diving in, breaking her wide open, and letting himself go inside her.

Gods, what she wouldn’t give …

Lids still clamped tight, she tensed at the tickle of his mouth over her belly—even felt his lashes fanning her through the rubber. Kiss … kiss … suck on the sensitive flesh above her core, then—nothing. Silently begging him not to stop, she almost opened her eyes. Heat shifted from her side and resurfaced right where she wanted him. Between her legs.

Her hands blindly groped for his head, grabbed him by that lush, thick hair, and urged his mouth toward her sex. Warm embers stoked to a flat-out blaze as he moved in, though she wasn’t sure how much was his Fire or hers. He’d burned so much of her Air tonight, it would take her a week to recover. And he hadn’t even made skin contact.

The scratch of teeth on her engorged nub through the catsuit tore the breath from her chest. The graze softened to a French kiss, and he moaned against her, the slaps of his jerks underscoring her urgency. Wetness soaked the rubber on both sides. She ground against the latex barrier, his lips and tongue, the Air warning her of the imminent danger.

Her eyes snapped open and latched onto his hungry tiger face. Muscles in his pumping arm tensed. His cock thickened, elongated, begged her to say the word.

“Are you ready, Kitty Cat?” Someone else’s hoarse voice spoke in her stead. Couldn’t have been her.

“God, yes, Mistress. Please …” The sheen of sweat on his shoulders, the concentration he was about to lose, the promise of him cutting loose something really bad, yet so fucking good, tripped the switch.

“Right here, slave.” She opened her legs fully, exposing the outline of every peak and valley of her sex. “Put your come right here, and finish me off with your hand while you do it.”

Byrn’s lids grew heavy, the strokes slowed, and he stepped up to the plate. The backs of his folded fingers rested against the cleft between her inner thigh and ass cheek as his thumb roughed her clit into a frenzy, nearly burning a hole through the rubber. He unleashed his load in searing streaks across the pink latex, using the fluid as lube for his thumb.

The shock wave from that rush of Fire emblazoned her mind, body, and soul, stripping her of precious Air, leaving a weakened, naked Vexx in its wake.

Her head fell back, eyes shut. A chain reaction of lightning-hot desire pinballed from core to appendages and straight into her heart.

Where was her brain in all of this? She hadn’t a clue.

Not good for an Aer Elemental. Not good at all.

Byrn slumped over her, cock still in hand, shoulders rising and falling softly. He lifted his blondish mane and caught her gaze. Gratification, relief, and a hint of self-consciousness fueled the sparks in his red eyes. “Thank you, Mistress.” The words were gentle. Maybe even genuine.

Thoroughly vexed as to how to respond, Vexx opened her arms to him. His hips docked in the harbor of her still-spread thighs. She wrapped her legs around his. Vexx gave him a tentative hug, careful not to let the skin on his neck and face touch her. He settled in her arms and held her.

She could never have this man, no matter how much she wanted him.

Cursed by the very Elements that blessed them with their amazing gifts. What a fucking tragedy.

Vexx reopened the communication channel to her brain and allowed Byrn access.
That was … intense. And awkward.

Yeah.
He was still hugging her. Why didn’t he let go?

Why don’t you see to Mr. Fyre Man, and I’ll tidy up in here.

He pulled away, no trace of emotion on his face.
Meet you at the car in ten.

Vexx glanced to the window. The expressions of the people greeting her ranged from bliss to jealousy, arousal, desire, awe, and respect. The Fyre met her gaze and licked his lips. She blew him a kiss as she wiped the evidence of Byrn’s submission off the catsuit with a wet rag.
So long, sucker.

, ten minutes later, Byrn slid into the passenger side of the rental car, slammed the door shut behind him, and stretched lazily into the seat. His head resting on bent arms, he was his old self, sated and languid. But Vexx noted a trace of yearning in his eyes that hadn’t been there before. A newfound respect? Nah, must’ve been the dim lights playing tricks.

“Did you take care of business?” She already knew he had by the look on his face.

“Yep.”

“Was he good for you?” Vexx checked for oncoming traffic and pulled into the street.

“They always are.” Byrn wiped his mouth with the back of his wrist and grinned.

“Too bad he was the wrong guy, but at least that’s one less Fyre for the Aussie Sentinels to worry about.” Vexx peeled the wrapper off a piece of bubblegum and popped the pink cube in her mouth.

Byrn’s heat subsided as he faced her. “You gonna be okay?”

She snorted to cover her surprise. He was worried about her? “Of course, I’ll be okay, dummy.”

“You lost a lot of Air in there.” An apology hid somewhere under the words, but it wasn’t in Byrn’s nature to apologize for anything.

“I’m fine.” Not even close, but she would be in time.

They continued on in silence for a while.

A few stoplights away from the hotel, Vexx said, “Jack’s gonna want to know what went down tonight.”

Byrn pressed his lips tight and nodded.

“Let’s pretend it never happened,” they said at the same time.

Both laughed. Byrn held out a hand to shake. She started to accept, then realized she’d taken her gloves off. Biting her bottom lip, she dropped her hand back to the steering wheel.

Byrn sighed and scrubbed his face. His mouth twitched. Perhaps he couldn’t find the right words, either. The light turned green, and Vexx continued onward.

“I’m sorry things aren’t different.” His words not only broke the silence, but they also broke her heart.

“Yeah. Me too.” She glanced at his handsome profile. It would be a long time before she forgot anything that happened tonight. But she had to pretend, for the sake of the Librus team—her
friends
—that everything was hunky dory. That she didn’t give a rat’s ass about Byrn. That his man-whoring didn’t bother her in the least.

That she didn’t love him like whoa.

Vexx punched him in the shoulder. “You’re still an asshole.”

“I know. You wanna lick my popsicle when we get home?”

“How about I shove it up your ass?”

A familiar toothy grin seized his face. “Now you’re talking.”
