For four generations, all my father's family had done was make a living, farming. There were a few good years in there. One hundred acres was, for me, then, starting with the same land Dad had, working in the same soil my great-grandparents had somehow managed to pay for, far more exciting than twenty thousand acres could have been. I learned, slowly, how to live.
