“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, Mommy, Daddy said.”
“What did Daddy say?” I look up and see my husband walk into the kitchen with our son up on his shoulders.
“That Lily could have an ice-cream.” I give him a questioning look as he knows our family will be here soon and then we will all have food so the children aren’t allowed treats until they eat all their dinner. Sometimes with the three of them I feel like I am the only grown up, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Me too.” My little boy who is three minutes older than his sister calls out while bouncing on his father’s shoulders.
“Oscar, Lily, where are you?” We hear come through the hallway of our large home.
“Granddaddy, Nanny!” Both the children scream as Samuel places Oscar back on the ground and he follows his sister to the hallway. Soon all the family have arrived and we’ve been kissed and hugged as they all make themselves comfortable in the large back yard that we all share. Both Samuel and I watch out the window as our twins run around trying to get everyone’s attention just as they jump on their trampoline that their father bought them yesterday.
“I love you,” he says to me as he places a kiss on my temple.
“I love you too and I’ve never been happier.” I respond as Samuel turns me around to face him. He places both hands on my face as he looks into my eyes and I see all the love he has for me in those beautiful orbs that have melted away the defenses that I had built up around myself. Sometimes I still find I have to pinch myself when I look at how my life turned out. I got more than I ever could have imagined and it’s all because of the man before me. He’s helped me turn into the woman I thought I would never be, the woman I wanted to be, but was too scared to want it. Even through all the mess that was my childhood I have the family I always wanted and needed to become that woman.
“Thank-you for saying yes and making me the happiest man on earth.”
“I love you.” And Samuel leans in and embraces me in a smoldering kiss that awakens my desire for him even though we’ve already done it this morning; since I found out I seem to want him more than normal.
“Do you have the picture?” He asks me and I nod with delight. He takes a hand and leads me through the back door to the garden where everyone is chatting. When we get to everyone Samuel gives me another kiss and we break it off when our son tells our secret.
“Awwwh Mommy and Daddy keep kissing because Mommy has a baby in her tummy.” As if on cue everyone turns around to look at us and Samuel shouts yes as everyone gets excited and comes up to congratulate us. As I look around I feel immense pride in my new family. We are so close it’s a rare thing,
but I thank my stars that they have accepted me and welcomed me with open arms. All I ever wanted when I grew up was to be loved and be a part of a family and now my greatest wish has come true. I have the love of my husband, my children and my family and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a part of a family; I have a family at last.
