“Damn, I’ve missed you baby,” Ken said as he came close to climaxing.

“Ahhh, I missed you too,” Rhonda screamed in ecstasy until finally they came together with Rhonda collapsing on the back of the couch with Ken holding her up as they continued kissing.

Rhonda told Ken that later that day that she wa
nted to be with him, but she needed time to fix things back home since her parents, David’s parents, and David’s whole church congregation had been told they were getting married. Rhonda asked Ken to give her time while she made things right within the next month. During the month of February, Rhonda did her best to keep her distance from Ken because she felt horrible for cheating on David, even if he had not been having sex with her. Usually when Rhonda came home to spend those weekends with David, he would be so busy showing her off to members of the church and the community as he attended local events and such. These things took up most of their time when Rhonda was in town. She never got the nerve up to have a conversation with David about her feelings for Ken, and because of David taking her for granted she tried to use that as an excuse to get involved with Ken again. By March, they were back on again with Rhonda spending every other weekend with Ken—the weekends that she did not go home. Once it began warming up, Ken started taking Rhonda away to Traverse City for their weekends together because he had property there and thought it would be a nice, romantic getaway. Rhonda was also concerned about what her neighbors might think seeing Ken coming over often, and then seeing David occasionally pop up. David still had not made much effort to visit Rhonda so if the neighbors were really watching that hard they would have thought Ken was her only suitor anyway. Rhonda also was keeping it a secret from LaVerne that she was involved with Ken again. She knew LaVerne would be thrilled, but knew that if she told LaVerne everything that she would have to deal with the pressure from both LaVerne and Ken to end things with David.

Months had went by and Ken was still waiting for Rhonda to end things with David, but he still continued to be patient because he loved Rhonda and wanted her any way that he could have her. Ken truly had faith that she would come around and be hers completely sooner rather than later; she would have to do something very soon though because David was putting pressure on Rhonda to settle on a summer date and the beginning of summer was just a few weeks away. Ken, although he never admitted it to Rhonda, also got pleasure out of the fact that he had gotten Rhonda back in his life, especially after that smug asshole had the nerve to flaunt the fact that Rhonda had chosen David over him after she accepted David’s proposal. Now Ken was the one who’s name Rhonda called out while they made love every other weekend, while David on the other hand neglected her and was helping push Rhonda into his arms even more. Rhonda knew that Ken got a kick out of this because of how he would sometimes make certain comments during their lovemaking with Ken mentioning that he was doing what “the good preacher” or “the good reverend” wasn’t doing for Rhonda. As crazy as it sounded, this kind of turned Rhonda on during sex, but as soon as it was over she would feel guilty again. Rhonda decided on that hot summer day in Traverse City that she was going to confess everything to David when she went home that following weekend. For now, though, she wouldn’t share this with Ken just in case she lost her nerve again.

Epilogue

On the eve of Rhonda Love Downing’s birthday that early fall, she and Ken were strolling around downtown after a romantic dinner at Ken’s condo. Ken had been encouraging Rhonda
to stay active so that her labor would go much smoother. Rhonda and Ken’s baby was due around Valentine’s Day that next year, and they were thrilled. Rhonda had moved out of her apartment when the lease was up a couple of months back, and Ken had been renovating his place for the arrival of his fiancé and their baby. The plan was to eventually move into a more family, friendly environment by the time the little one was a toddler, but for now Rhonda enjoyed living downtown with the love of her life. Things had suddenly turned around, but not exactly like Rhonda had expected or planned, when she went home that weekend planning to end the engagement with David.

When Rhonda arrived home that Saturday she tried connecting with David but could not reach him. She did not have a key to his place, something that he conveniently kept forgetting to take care of, so this time she had no choice but to stay with her parents that evening. After leaving message after message for David to call her, Rhonda finally decided she would just have dinner with him after church, which they usually did anyway those Sundays after church, and then have the talk with him. She did talk to her parents that night and confessed to them that she was not in love with David and decided she was going to end the engagement. Surprisingly, Rhonda’s parents were thrilled by her news because they noticed that she did not seem to be happy. Having her parents support made her more determined to end everything that following day. When she arrived early to the church the next morning, Rhonda tried stopping by David’s office first to greet him and make plans for them to dine privately after service. As she approached the closed office door, she heard an argument believing it was a result of a bickering couple being counseled by David, but then she recognized the angry male voice as belonging to David. She listened a few seconds longer realizing that the female voice belonged to a lady who was cursing David for leaving her and her baby in a dump while going off and preparing to marry “that bitch.” Immediately, Rhonda knew whom that female voice belonged to and walked in on the confrontation. Both David and Dana stopped arguing as they looked at Rhonda; they appeared to be in more shock than she.

“Dana, don’t worry
—you can have him! I was about to end things with him today anyway. Trifling, lying-ass bastard!” Rhonda said as she pulled the engagement ring off and flung it at him.

“Rhonda, wait…I was going to tell you but…”

“When? You should have told me as soon as you stepped back into my life, David. I almost lost the love of my life trying to give you another chance. Thank God he waited for me so don’t you worry. I’ll be just fine.”

Rhonda walked out the office leaving David and D
ana behind her. From what she later heard, David ended up trying to do the right thing by marrying Dana and becoming a full-time father to their baby. It wasn’t before long, though, that David was back to sleeping around on Dana.

When Rhonda returned back to the city to share the news with Ken, of course he was thrilled to have Rhonda all to himself. Before long, they got the news about Rhonda being pregnant. Rhonda’s parents soon came to the city that summer to meet Ken and his parents, and everyone got along perfectly. It was during their visit that week that Ken spoke with Mr. and Mrs. Downing to get permission to ask for Rhonda’s hand in marriage, which they happily gave their blessings. That following week, Ken treated Rhonda out to a night on the town, something similar to what he had always done but at the end of this particular date he proposed to Rhonda in the park where they met for their first official date. Ken pulled a Tiffany ring box out of his pocket, showing a ring worthy of his queen, and Rhonda immediately said yes without any hesitation or doubts. Now as Rhonda walked through that same park holding hands with Ken and trying to get him to tell her what big surprises he had in store that next day for her birthday, Rhonda could not help but feel the happiest that she had ever been. Life continued to be leaning in her favor, and she could not wait for what more it had to offer.
