She watched as a barbed implement drove through
the air, cutting the vibrating heat like a mirage sliced in
half.

It bit into the demon above her and he tore his
finger out of her pussy in a reactive spasm, turning to face his
attacker.

Constantine stood above Hayden.

Ember choked back a relieved sob and fell
backward, curling her legs against herself in the fetal
position.

Hayden began to leap to his feet to fight this
renegade vampire, but in so doing, inadvertently wrapped the barbed
chain around his torso. Its metal teeth punctured his skin as he
turned and Hayden howled in misery and rage.

Constantine smiled, wrapping a loop of the chain
around his forearm on the smooth side that held no barbs.

He jerked it with the strength of his lineage:
Druid, vampire and Exotic coming together smoothly. His mixed-blood
rose to the challenge, his cunning and strength in battle was
nearly unstoppable.

Con would need it, as Hayden breathed through
the pain of The Encourager and pulled Constantine closer even as
the barbs bit deeper.

“Do your worst, vampire,” Hayden challenged, his
demonic strength a mountain of muscle against Constantine.

Con's smile widened, becoming a grin. “I shall,”
Con promised and his fangs sprung as he took a chunk of demon meat
from Hayden's upper chest. He tore it out and spit it against the
wall of the In Between, where it slid down in a smoldering crimson
blob to land on the floor and steam and fester.

Hayden bellowed and butted his head against
Con's, tearing twin holes in Con's scalp, where it bled freely into
his eyes, clouding his vision.

Constantine didn't need to see, he closed his
eyes against his own blood and stomped on the instep of the demon
as he jerked The Encourager with another looping twist and used his
head like a battering ram, rapping the side of the demon's jaw with
his skull.

Then his adversary's tail buried itself in Con's
back and things got interesting.

He wasn't sure if he could beat this demon.

Con's eyes popped open and he swung his head to
rid his face of the blood.

His blood.

It splattered on Ember as her deep garnet eyes
held his, shocky and wide-- unseeing.

She opened her mouth and the siren was
released.

The water from the pool did not respond for a
heart-rendering moment that seemed to swell. Then it rose like a
wall without mercy and encapsulated the Demon. It acted as a wash
of acid as it destroyed the Demon.

Ember choked and retched as the flesh melted off
his bones in a sodden sliding mountain of organic gore.

He was a full-blooded demon; to him the sea was
a caustic substance, an able weapon. What Constantine couldn't do
in the tight battle, Ember had done for him.

When Hayden was a pool of demonic sludge at his
feet Constantine stepped over him dismissively, jerking away the
blood and flesh-laden Encourager as he did. He attached it to his
belt of other weapons and knelt beside Ember.

She looked at him with her eyes like lifeless
jewels. The fire of her was gone.

Constantine acted on the first tender impulse of
his life, bringing her gown over her nakedness and tucking it
beneath her.

Con moved against her body and drew an
unresistant Ember against him.

She lay there for a moment and their hearts beat
in harmony briefly; his fast from battle, hers a depressed
rhythm.

When the first anguished sob tore from her
throat he let her cry and an alien emotion overtook him.

Empathy.

And Constantine had thought that a myth.

Kane

Kane came to with a lurching groan. That fuck
Hayden had lanced his skull with his unusual spiked tail. It was
rare amongst most of demonkind, although more common in the Demon
Warriors. A perfect battle tool. Unfortunately, Kane had never
anticipated its use against him. Only foe.

He rose to his hands and knees, fighting the
bile that rose from the blow. Demons healed quickly and as he let
the moment ride, he gradually recovered from the vertigo.

Kane stood and automatically searched for the
Mer breeder, Ember.

That is not what his eyes saw. Before him was a
knot of Demon flesh, melted and deformed.

Dead.

Kane's eyes widened.

Ember was nowhere to be found, his second was
dead and his eyes found the pool.

It was empty. The seawater reservoir’s contents
rose in a steaming hiss off his second's corpse.

Hayden had tried to use the breeder after a
lucky strike against himself and she had used the Siren's wail of
the Mer to assist in her defense.

And she had escaped as Kane had slept off the
damage inflicted by his own kind.

Fuck,
Kane seethed. Then his nostrils
flared, catching the scent of another supernatural.

What?
He breathed more deeply.
Vampire,
his mind whispered in identification.

Like a demon with a bone, he followed what had
been taken from him.

Kane had never lost a breeder, and he wasn't
about to begin with this one.

Ember was the water to put out his flame.

Fire and ice.

Kane tracked.

Alexandra

Alexandra stalked out of Lucas' chamber in
internal turmoil.
That bastard,
she fumed. He had never
cared for her! It had all been an elaborate ruse? And for what?
Females must breed with Lucas.

Alexandra had mistaken the pleasure he forced
from her to be motivated by concern that she enjoy the rut as much
as he.

Obviously, she had been quite wrong. She was
like any other breeder to fuck.

She fought back the tears that chilled the
underside of her eyelids. Her dismay would be a secret she kept to
herself. Alexandra was very unpopular amongst the other female
breeding demons.

They hated her because her skin was richly dark,
her ass plump and round, her eyes a never-before seen lavender,
tits like ripe round fruit.

She was the one most often fucked by Lucas.
Recently, he had fucked no one but her. It had caused fights.

Alexandra wore the marks of other females who
wished to harm her for her coveted position with Lucas. A memory
came of Lucas touching the healing wounds with a question in his
eyes, the gaze darkening as he wondered at it. Alexandra's claimed
clumsiness in response to the unspoken question in his searching
gaze. She did not wish for more resentment and hatred directed at
her.

Wouldn't they be thrilled to know he thought her
a whore like the others?

Yet, how could Alexandra be a whore if she had
only been with Lucas? How could she help but enjoy the things he
did to her body, the things she felt as he did them? His cooling
seed and tongue as he kissed her lips, as his tail and prick
pierced the deep heat of her ass and pussy...
no
, he felt
too good for her to deny the soft begging noises she made as Lucas
took her.

She closed her eyes and utterly missed the
attack when it came, so deep in thought was she about Lucas'
scathing words.

A silken bag was thrown over her head and she
kicked out, pinwheeling her arms.

They were caught by the Demon males who had been
coveting her from a distance for some time. They'd waited for the
opportunity to possess this Demon female who had so fully captured
the attention of their leader.

They dragged her off, making haste to escape the
underground lair as the males were very aware of the repercussions
that might follow Alexandra's kidnap and forced breeding.

Alexandra could identify by scent the ones who
had taken her and a fine trembling rage rose up. They were males
who had treated her with deference. With respect.

That they would take her now could only mean one
thing: Lucas had encouraged it.

To not want her? Fine, so be it. To encourage
the Demon Warriors of their kind to perform a mass rape on a female
that had only been with one male? Without the rite.... it was
sacrilege.

Alexandra couldn't stop the tears that fell,
tracking a pathway of ice as they rolled down her hot face.

Drops of ice melted as they hit the steaming
ground of their underworld, yet some remained, like the bread
crumbs left by Hansel and Gretel.

For her tears were not hot, but chilled, falling
as ice and landing like frozen jewels.

Lucas

Lucas paced back and forth in his suite of
underground rooms. His place of meeting the warriors lay adjacent
to the chamber where he fucked the breeders.

Where he had just enjoyed the best fucking of
his demonic existence.

With Alexandra.

His mind rejected the image of her lavender eyes
looking at him with barely veiled betrayal as it rose inside the
dark recesses of his skull.

He put his palms on either side of his head.

Lucas couldn't stand that he was having this
degree of trouble. She was a female, for Master's sake!

Lucas could not believe what he was considering.
It went against every rule, every law of Demon existence.

He wanted Alexandra. He wanted her so badly his
cock and balls throbbed to the beat of his heart. Since his first
deflowering of her virgin cunt he'd been hardly able to perform
with other breeders. He was a disgrace as a leader. Lucas feared
that his warriors had grown suspicious of the inordinate amount of
time he spent fucking Alexandra.

Hell
, he smiled at his internal use of
the word,
time he'd spent
near
her
.

Lucas thought of the months' old punishment he'd
given Brolach . How he'd forced Brolach to purge his own seed while
he watched Lucas fuck the breeder.

Then the word had come to Lucas that Brolach had
protected a half-breed demon.

With the ebony wings of an angel.

Brolach had been of angel descent. He'd cleverly
hidden it for centuries from all, and because of his weakness for a
breeder, had let the secret of his ancestry be told in a most
undeniable way. A most... visual way.

A breeder.... that Brolach cared for. He'd
revealed himself and put a bounty written in blood by the Master
himself on his head. It had seemed beyond suicidal to Lucas when
his Demon Warriors relayed the perfection of his protection of
Ruby, the breeder that was both Mer and Demon.

It seemed not so much now.

Lucas stopped pacing, giving a steaming hiss at
his weakness. But that mixed-blood would not quiet in his veins, it
spurred him toward the female.

His great-grandsire had mated with a Demon
female. It had been the cover-up of the greatest order. However,
what could not be contained, that which manifested now, was that
pesky Druid lineage.

No, Lucas was not vampire, but his
great-grandmother had lain with a Druid vampire, his cock healing
from the scalding even as he took her.

He had been killed for his trouble by a
wandering troop of Mer. It seemed hardly fair that the one who'd
killed the male Druid, had then bonded with that long ago ancestor
when he healed her.

Thereby allowing the chill of bodily fluids that
stood in testimony of that bit of Mer bonding while the Druid
warrior lay dying, his seed having already taken root within the
female breeder.

Later she would have Demon spawn.

Yet they would harbor the Druid vampire lineage,
Demon as the outward shell, the guts of the male- Druid.

Always Druid.

With a kick of Mer.

Now Lucas resisted his mixed nature, railed
against it.

In the end, he succumbed.

He strode out of his chamber and within two
paces his eyes caught sight of something which glittered on the
steaming floor.

It shone.

Like melting jewels.

Lucas hunkered down next to those shimmering
chunks.

Ice!
His mind supplied in curiosity.
Lucas turned that curiosity over in his mind, trying to make sense
of finding ice in the bowels of Hades.

His gaze jerked up and he stood, the few he had
collected melting against his hand.

They were tears.

Alexandra's tears.

Lucas slowly turned in a full circle, taking in
the breadth and width of the broiling corridor. Where had she gone?
His hand involuntarily clenched around the small chunks of ice,
crushing them inside his palm.

His nostrils flared, taking in the scent he knew
was hers... and found it.

Fear, confusion and anger were mixed, his
olfactory senses uniquely designed to find breeders; another Druid
offshoot, both blessing and curse.

Lucas scowled, ignoring the rippling steam that
rose in response to his emotions.

He understood that he had put the confusion and
anger there. Lucas had sent her a slew of mixed signals. It was a
defense mechanism on his part. Part survival instinct, part loyalty
to the High Demon subjects he oversaw.

However, there was one emotion that did not
fit.

The fear.

Alexandra should not have felt fear.

Lucas hesitated, he could not have been leader
of the High Demons for centuries without some degree of intuition.
He allowed his gaze to sharpen, taking in his surroundings to the
minutest detail. As Alexandra's icy tears slicked his palm with her
sadness he found what he was looking for and a fine enlightening
rage swept over him like a heatwave.

A scrap of pale violet material lay along the
wall of the corridor, partially singed by the heat.

It was the sheer panel that had covered the
cleft of her womanhood.

It had been torn away.

Horns sprouted on top of his head with a painful
push and Lucas' vision slid to the red of battle.

Some Demon males had thought to whisk Alexandra
away. He had paid her too much attention, held onto her as his main
concubine too long. Made her vulnerable by his want of her.
