At last, the buzzer rings. My heart leaps into my throat and I can’t catch my breath.
 
I glance at the clock. It’s even earlier than I expected. I try to calm myself down as I cross the room and release the downstairs door. I check myself in the mirror one last time, and then force myself to wait until I hear the knock on the door. I take a deep breath and open.
 

But it isn’t Lazarus. And I wish I’d never opened the door.
