Hubert Wolf, born in 1959, is a professor of ecclesiastical history at University of Muenster, Germany. He was honored with the Leibnizpreis of the German Science Society (DFG), the Communicator Prize, and the Gutenberg Prize, and he was a fellow at the historical society in Munich.

A NOTE ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR

Ruth Martin has a PhD in twentieth-century German literature and philosophy from the University of London, where she also lectured. She is now a full-time translator and has translated several nonfiction books from German.
