Alana and the two servants had stayed behind with Kirstin, as everyone made their way to the gathering. Lachlan stood in the front of everyone, next to the priest, as they awaited the bride.
Stringed music played off to the side, with the occasional entrance of a flute. Butterflies fluttered in the soft breeze, and clouds passed slowly in the blue sky. Everything was serene, and everyone was calm.
People turned in their seats upon seeing Lachlan’s eyes widen for an instant, and upon seeing the flash of ivory, was a young blonde woman who seemed to glow in the sun’s beams.
The heavens shown down on her as she walked down the small aisle in white. Lachlan was serious, but something in him shown above Kirstin. Gratitude, compassion, and thrill erupted from his very core, making him smile at his soon to be wife.
Kirstin had done her best not to shake, but she could not help the light tears that brimmed her eyes with joy and fervor. When she had closed the distance between herself and Lachlan, and took his hand into her own, only then did the tears finally fall.
He wiped them away with his fingers, and gently gave her a reassuring smile.
The priest had begun to speak, but his words did not prevent Kirstin from gazing over the crowd. She took in the appearances of her father, her brother, her friends, and in the very back she even saw green eyes that belonged to no other than Graham himself. He had given her a small smile, and despite its sadness, it was genuine.
Within time, the priest had spoken and together, they said their vows, sealing their matrimony with a kiss that was full of passion and sincerity. With the kiss, came love and promise, but also the loss of Kirstin’s innocence as she sealed away her childhood.
For Kirstin was no longer the highlander’s servant; she was with certainty, and undoubtedly, the highlander’s wife.
