“Anyway, you shouldn’t be on your feet,” Keo said.

“If a doctor had said that, I might have listened.”

“I think Allie knows what she’s talking about.”

“Probably.” He looked up at the clear, sunny sky and blinked against the sun. “How did I get here, anyway?”

“You don’t remember?”

“Nope.”

“Zachary and Shorty carried you. You’ve been asleep for two days.”

“No wonder I feel so good.” He paused for a moment, then, “Riggs would never leave Murtaugh behind.”

“Yeah, well, you were already too old for this shit when all of this began. At this point, you’re pretty much stinking up the joint.”

Norris grunted before grinning at him. “So, this Allie. She pretty or what? No one was there when I woke up.”

“She’s definitely a looker. But I don’t think she goes for old guys.”

“Of course not,” Norris frowned. “Why should my luck improve all of a sudden?” Then he beamed, looking half his age all of a sudden. “I can’t believe we’re still alive.
Dae-
fucking-
bak,
kid.”

Keo looked out at the glistening lake and smiled.
“Daebak,
old-timer.”

“You sure you’re gonna be fine out there without me?”

“I’ll get by.”

“I don’t doubt it. You’re a survivor, kid. This kind of world was made for people like you, not old farts like me.”

“Is that what that smell is?”

Norris grunted. “Smartass.”

Keo grinned. “We never got around to grabbing a Blu-ray of
Lethal Weapon.

“Nope. We’ll put that on the to-do list when we meet up again.”

“What was it called, anyway?”

“What’s that?”

“The sequel to
Lethal Weapon.

Norris chuckled. “
Lethal Weapon 2.
They called the third and fourth one
Lethal Weapon 3
and
Lethal Weapon 4
, respectively.”

“Not very creative of them,” Keo said.

“Nah, they sorta blew their load with the first movie,” Norris said. “The first sequel was pretty good, though…”

EPILOGUE

“To any survivors
out there, if you’re hearing this, you are not alone. There are things you need to know about our enemy—these creatures of the night, these ghouls. They are not invincible, and they have weaknesses other than sunlight. One: you can kill them with silver. Stab them, shoot them, or cut them with any silver weapon, and they will die. Two: they will not cross bodies of water. An island, a boat—get to anything that can separate you from land. Three: some ultraviolet light has proven effective, but flashlights and lightbulbs with UV don’t seem to have any effect. We don’t know why, so use this information with caution. If you’re hearing this message, you are not alone. Stay strong, stay smart, and adapt. We owe it to those we’ve lost to keep fighting, to never give up. Good luck.”
