“Please........I am FINE”.
Laughing, as the singer had nodded, giving her a wink before moving over to get himself coffee.
“Well my main concern was that my big brother here would be boring you”.
He had laughed.
“Wouldn’t want him to scare you off” as Ryan had snorted loudly.
“Far from it dear brother......this lovely lady is so the opposite of bored ...... that she has agreed to stay here until her leg has mended”.
Tom had smiled over at her.
“Fantastic”.
His tone full of sincerity before taking on a more serious note, “In all honesty Jenna, it really is the least we can do.........and I would like to make sure that you get a reward”.
She had looked at him in complete horror.
“No...Absolutely not”.
She had determined, seeing how Ryan was looking at her with more sombre eyes now.
“You know I don’t get you Americans......why does everything have to have a reward or the ability to sue attached to it?”
Her eyes growing wide with concern as gasping she had looked at Tom.
“You aren’t going to sue the club are you?” her question making the other man frown slightly.
“Well.........I’m really not sure...” he had begun, stopping seeing the look on her lovely face.
“Please.........please don’t do that. The owner is a friend of mine, he gave me a job for a few days before I moved on.....if you sue him you will destroy his club.......and he has his life savings poured into it”.
The low voice of Ryan Trudeau had interjected softly.
“I’m sorry Jenna.......he is your boyfriend”.
Seeing as she had looked at him with irritation in her eyes.
“No......a friend.........and a good person” she had added sternly.
“What happened with that light was terrible...........and I am sure that by now Mark has had every single light in that place double checked, but nobody was hurt, so please, for my sake if that is what it takes please don’t have him closed down”.
Tom had looked over at Ryan, his expression uncertain before the elder brother had spoken.
“If that is what you want........then fine.......but on one condition Jenna.......that he has that whole club double checked by a health and safety expert”.
The look of relief on her face had filled him again with the strangest sensation. This woman who could have taken advantage of her situation was more interested in others than herself, Ryan realising that he had not met anybody like Jenna Long.
“Thank you”.
She had smiled her body noticeably relaxing into the chair.
After a few seconds of silence Ryan had seized on something she had said.
“Move on? You don’t live in New York?”
Jenna had given him a big smile.
“No........I promised myself when I had finished my university course that I would take a year off and take a trip around the world......and that is exactly what I am doing”.
He had looked at her with surprise.
“Alone?”
His voice surprised.
With another smile she had nodded, “Yep......nobody to slow me down”.
She had chuckled, before telling them how she had planned the trip and was for the most part staying with friends from school and university. The two brothers had looked at her with respect, before Tom had looked at his watch, quickly drinking down his coffee.
“Sorry”.
He had said apologetically at Jenna.
“Gotta run, got a photo shoot and interview”.
His brother had nodded in agreement.
“I gotta go too......I have a date”.
He had said, Jenna once more feeling a rush of jealousy filling her, before she had put on a smile, using the crutches to move to the comfortable couch she had sat on the previous evening.
“Well......I’ll just slum it in this lap of luxury apartment”.
Tom had chuckled back.
“That’s the spirit.......feel free to use anything”, before the two men had left together, Jenna enjoying the sudden silence. As she had retrieved her mobile phone, she had found it full of messages, many from news reporters, but others from Mark the club owner. Ringing him she had heard the relief on his voice.
“Oh my God, Jenna....I was so worried about you. I was ready to send the police around to Tom Trudeau’s place to rescue you”.
Jenna had laughed before assuring him that she was fine, explaining what had happened and how her ankle was sprained.
He had groaned softly.
“It is a nightmare Jenna. The place if full of reporters trying to paint me as some public nuisance, and it is only a matter of time before his lawyers have me closed down”, his voice full of misery, as Jenna had told him of her conversation with the two brothers, and their promise not to press charges if he had the place inspected. The relief on his voice had been instant as he had thanked her, both for saving the heart-throb singer and for saving his business, Jenna just so glad to be able to repay him for his kindness to her.
For the rest of the day she had sat reading, enjoying the peace. With a smile Jenna had realised that it was the first time in the past three months since she had began her journey that she had really relaxed and she had enjoyed the time to herself, especially given the opulence of her surroundings. As the daylight had turned to a dusty half light her stomach had rumbled hungrily and using her crutches she had made her way over to the fridge, giving a small laugh at seeing how empty it was, not relishing the beer or champagne for supper. As she had stood frowning in concentration the lift had opened and Tom had moved into the living area.
Seeing her stood at the fridge he had chuckled before looking apologetically at her.
“I’m sorry, we aren’t big on cooking”, moving towards her.
“Just pick up the phone and order what you want ...... 24 hour concierge” he had chuckled, picking up what appeared to be a menu.
“Actually I’m feeling a bit peckish myself”.
He had smiled.
“Fancy splitting a pizza?”
Jenna had nodded enthusiastically, seeing as he had picked up the phone and agreeing on toppings had placed the order.
She had watched the singer, so handsome with charm oozing so naturally from every pore. He had in turn watched her, his eyes slowly, seductively moving down her.
“Well it seems we are alone”.
He had drawled sensually, moving closer to Jenna. Watching his obvious attempts at seduction her hand had flown to try to cover her mouth as unable to hold it back she had laughed loudly, seeing the look of surprise on his face.
“Does that actually work on girls?”
She had managed, as he had stopped with complete surprise on his handsome features.
“Well....usually”.
He had finally managed, his mouth twitching despite himself.
“Should I try another line?”
At this Jenna had again broke down into hysterics, tears streaming down her face as he had joined her, picking up a towel and launching it at her.
“Shut up”.
He had chuckled, the two of them suddenly feeling so comfortable together.
Ryan Trudeau had stepped from the lift, sighing gently. He had thrown his jacket on a nearby chair combing his fingers through his hair. An afternoon of mediocre sex followed by a lunch in which he had listened to his date’s boring stories and inane chatter had made his mood less than happy, the call needing him to return to work to deal with an unexpected problem almost a relief. Throughout the day his mind had wandered back to the woman who had saved his brother, the mere thought of her raising him to a level that the women he had slept with had not managed in the most intimate way.
He had frowned slightly hearing the laughter coming from one of the living rooms, and had moved quietly towards the sound, stopping at the door seeing as Jenna and Tom had lounged on the large comfortable settee, playing cards, a discarded pizza box close by them. He had smiled listening as the two had joked with each other, Tom accusing her of cheating as she had told him to stop being such a baby. This last line making him laugh as the two had looked up in surprise.
Moving in to join them he had pulled up a stool sitting down.
“OK..........deal me in”.
He had managed smiling at the two, seeing as Tom had chuckled, while Jenna had become quieter.
“Sure thing bro”, he had laughed.
“I need the backup...this one” he had moved his head to indicate Jenna “Is a cheat” Jenna looking at him with mock indignation.
“pfft......you’re just a bad player” she had chuckled pulling in her cards and smiling.
As they had played Tom had looked over at Ryan.
“So how did it go with what’s her name”.
He had grinned wickedly, his mouth widening as Ryan had glared back at him. Putting on a polite smile Jenna had looked at him.
“Have you been going out with your girlfriend long”?
She had asked, quickly looking at Tom who had burst out laughing.
“Yeah, like Ryan does relationships”.
He had laughed, his brother giving him a playful smack, before smiling roguishly at her.
“So many women, so little time” he had chuckled, picking up another card.
“I am just trying to be fair” before looking back at Tom
“Like my little brother is any better”.
Looking over at Jenna.
“I’m surprised that he hasn’t hit on you yet”.
Tom and Jenna had looked at each other before bursting into fits of laughter, Tom seeing the surprised look on Ryan’s face, explaining.
“She shot me down in flames; I’m surprised that I’m not still smoking”.
Jenna had moved to pick up a card not seeing the way Ryan had looked at her, his expression more serious and thoughtful.
For another hour the three had played cards, all laughing constantly as they had tried to pit wits with the other, Ryan laughing at her poker face.
“You cannot hide anything”.
He had chuckled, as she had tried not to show that she held such a good hand. She had grimaced back giving a small smile seeing as Tom had been trying to give his poker face too, telling all instantly that he had a bad hand. She had to admit though that Ryan was unreadable, and she could tell little from his expression what he was thinking, once more finding herself sliding her eyes over his wonderful body, shocked to discover that she envied the woman who had been lucky enough to find herself in his arms that day.
Finally she had pushed her cards to the side, giving a small yawn.
“Well if you two card sharks don’t mind..........I need some sleep”.
She had grinned, seeing the way the two brothers seemed genuinely disappointed for her to be going. Tom had quickly leapt to his feet to help her up, and she had waved away any more assistance as she had picked up the crutches that had been delivered that morning.
“OK, Jenna .........but do not think that you are getting off this easy.......I will demand a rematch”.
She had smiled warmly back at the two men, before swinging her way back to her bedroom.
“Yeah yeah Trudeau, bring it on”, hearing the laughter as she had disappeared from the room, realising that she had really enjoyed herself.
The following day, she had awoken early, and made her way into the kitchen, surprised to find Ryan sitting at the counter drinking coffee as he had flicked through a paper, his eyes rising, surprised to see her up.
