Chapter
Three

It was a little bit late, and
since Kiki didn’t have a car, Billy offered to walk her home. He didn’t bring
his car as well. He always preferred taking a cab especially after a night of
drinking, and Kiki thought this was responsible of him.

“Kiki, I have a confession to
make. I am attracted to you, and I can’t go on anymore without letting you
know.”

Kiki was flattered. That was
the most beautiful thing she has ever heard ever since the breakup with Kevin.
She never thought or expected to be attracted to another man, much less for the
feelings to be mutual.

At first, she didn’t really
know how to respond.

So, she just smiled and kept on
walking beside this gorgeous man. For some strange reason, Kiki felt really
safe around Billy and didn’t really want him to leave. She silently put her
hand around his arm and moved a little bit closer.

Billy took note of what she was
doing and smiled without saying a word, but he made sure that he squeezed her
hand right back to show her that it was all ok and that she had nothing to
worry about.

However, Billy felt a bit
unsettled. He was falling in love with this big, black woman right beside him,
but he had a secret. One that he wanted to share with her, but he was
apprehensive to do so since he wasn’t sure that things were going to be the
same after sharing it.

Finally, they got to the house,
and Kiki told him to come in just for a cup of coffee.

“It’s really cold and we’re a
little bit tipsy. I don’t think it is a good idea for you to just leave without
having some.”

“That would be a brilliant
idea. And thanks for being too kind.”

With that, he stepped inside
and closed the door behind him. Kiki wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to
do, but at that point, she didn’t really care. All she wanted to do was to
spend more time with Billy.

The two didn’t even get around
to having coffee. As soon as the door was locked, Kiki flung herself on Billy
and they started kissing. At first, Billy was a little bit uneasy. Kiki thought
she was being way too aggressive and started to pull back. Billy seemed to have
read her mind.

“Don’t worry, you aren’t being
too aggressive. It’s just that I haven’t been in a situation like this one in a
while, so I’m a little bit nervous. That’s all.”

Billy grabbed her by her chin,
kissing her slowly and sensually. That was something that she surely had missed
and wanted to enjoy every single bit of it.

Billy was a little bit too
hungry, and he carried her to the couch where he started ridding her of her
clothes. This just felt as though she was in a dream. Kiki closed her eyes for
a moment.

When she opened them, Kiki was
more than glad to find out that she was still in the same situation with a
gorgeous man kissing her.

Billy was kissing her all over,
placing kisses on her eyes, nose, lips, and chin. When he got to her neck, he
started blowing on it softly, and this drove her a little over the edge. Kiki
closed her eyes and bit her lower lip while she put her hands around his head
and directed him just where she wanted to be kissed.

“Oh, and here I was thinking
that you were an innocent little janitor.”

“You know what they say, don’t
ever judge a book by its cover.”

They moved towards the bed.
Billy then slid his muscular hands around her waist and started kissing her
once again, making sure that she was comfortable enough right before he could
make love to her. Kiki’s body felt really warm, and she exploded with passion.

The lovemaking was so
incredible that they both moaned in passion and finally collapsed in each
other’s arms. After such intimacy, Kiki wanted to know all about Billy.

“So, what can you tell me about
you?” Kiki started as she ran her finger through his hair.

“You can ask me anything and I
assure you, you will get the answers.”

That seemed like an awfully
incredible game to play, and Kiki was up for it. So, she thought of the best
question to ask him while they lay in bed, naked and trying to recover from the
intense love making that had just come to a close.

“Are you in a relationship of
some sort?”

“I was, but it ended a very
long time ago. That is why I moved here so that I could start on a new path. I
needed to find myself.”

There was also another question
that Kiki wanted to ask him. But as far as she was concerned, she wanted to
look him into his eyes when she asked so that she could get it straight. So,
she sat up and turned towards Billy.

Billy knew what was coming and prepared
himself.

“Do you like me?”

When she asked that question,
Kiki didn’t even think of breaking eye contact. She just felt she needed to
know the truth and nothing but the truth.

“If I didn’t like you, I
wouldn’t be here. Trust me on that one.” he said without breaking eye contact.
Looking into the depths of his eyes, Kiki somehow knew that Billy had genuine
feelings for her.

Billy saw one of his hands turn
into hard claws and hid it under the pillow. Thankfully, Kiki had her eyes
closed, so she didn’t see them. That was what Billy was trying to hide. Billy
was a shape shifter.

As a matter of fact, he was the
bear that was being reported on the news.

The last thing he wanted to do
was to scare people, and so, he kept it a secret. But now, this was becoming a
heavy burden to carry since Kiki was a smart woman and sooner or later, she was
going to find out.

“Hey, are you asleep?”

“Not really. I’m just
recovering from that incredible experience you just gave me. What’s the matter?
You seem as though you have something serious you want to say.”

Billy felt that it would be a
good idea to just come out clean and tell Kiki straight up. But for a moment,
he paused because he didn’t know how she was going to take it.

How on earth do you just tell a
girl you like that you are a bear and that you are three hundred years old?
That would be really weird.

Kiki, on the other hand, never
believed in such supernatural stuff and always dismissed them as stupid stories
meant to scare off children and make some money from the movies.

Billy paused for a moment. He
didn’t have an idea where to start. But he knew that he had to start from
somewhere. So, he cleared his throat and went ahead with it anyway.

“I know this is going to sound
a little bit stupid…”

“What is? Look…”

Kiki grabbed his massive hand
and rubbed reassuringly before finishing up her statement.

“…you know you can tell me
anything.”

“I am a shape shifter.”

Kiki looked at him with wide
eyes. After a few moments, she couldn’t hold it any longer and burst out
laughing. Billy looked at her as she rolled along the bed and kicked. This was
the funniest thing that she heard in years especially after a steamy session of
lovemaking.

Kiki then looked back at
Billy’s face. When she saw that he was serious, she stopped laughing and looked
at him, though tears were still pouring from her eyes uncontrollably.

When he got her attention,
Billy took his arm from under the pillow, and for the first time ever, Kiki was
able to see that he had huge claws. She froze for a moment, not knowing what to
say or do. Once again, Billy could smell her fear and wanted to say something
to assuage her.

“You have absolutely nothing to
worry about. I’m not going to eat you alive or something like that. I know it’s
shocking, but this is who I am. I don’t hurt people. I’m just different.”

For a moment, Kiki thought she
was in shock, but then, she was able to move. Kiki never thought much or
believed in the supernatural, and now that this was right in front of her, she
was dumbfounded.

She was scared almost to death,
but she didn’t want to let this opportunity to slide.

So, she reached out her hand
and touched the furry hand and claws. She retracted her hand as soon as she
felt his fur.

“It’s ok. Go ahead and feel
them. I promised that I won’t hurt you. Just promise that you won’t tell
anyone.”

Chapter
Four

Monday came around, and Kiki
was finally forced to come out of bed. Since she had early classes to teach,
she had to get up early. She didn’t really mind as she loved teaching the kids,
but she wished she could spend more time with Billy.

While she went about her day,
Kiki couldn’t stop reliving her weekend and how incredible it was. She enjoyed
every minute she spent with Billy more than she ever did with any other man.
She couldn’t help but think back to what happened that morning.

Billy had already left since he
also had to be in school early. But he promised to stop by at any time that
Kiki wanted him to. For an animal, Billy was surely a gentleman and that rare
combination was what made him even more attractive to her.

After taking a quick shower,
Kiki stepped out of the house with a smile on her face, ready to conquer
anything. What transpired over the weekend between her and Billy gave her such
a high that she felt nothing could bring her down at the moment.

Some of her colleagues also
noticed that their friend was glowing and just couldn’t stop wondering.

But it was Lillian who made it
a point to ask, as usual.

“I just noticed that you have
this glow about you. So, want to go ahead and give me the juicy details about
what happened with the hot janitor?”

Kiki just rolled her eyes and
continued rifling through her stuff. But she knew that no matter how hard she
tried to ignore her, Lillian was going to get the information that she wanted.

No one was as persistent and
she always made sure that she got whatever she asked for, even if it meant
torturing the person of interest.

“We hooked up and that’s the
end of the story.”

“Not enough though! Like I
said, I need the juicy details. And that dry statement that you just gave me
doesn’t quite cut it. So, are you going to tell us what the hell happened or do
you prefer that I torture it out of you?”

Kiki wasn’t going to sit there
and get tickled like a little girl. It was in her place of work for crying out
loud. But then again, that was Lillian Becker. The two had been friends ever
since they were little girls and had gone through each and every single step of
life together.

This meant that Kiki knew what
she was capable of doing – which included being fired just because she was
tickling her colleague for information about a steamy weekend with the janitor.
Kiki took another glance at her friend and realized just how serious she was.

So, she decided to clear her
throat and just spill the beans.

To be honest, she was also
dying to talk to someone about how glorious her weekend was. But just like she
had promised Billy, Kiki wasn’t going to spill the beans about him being a
shape shifter.

Even if she hadn’t promised,
there was absolutely no way she could tell anyone without looking crazy.

Secondly, she just didn’t like
sharing everything with everybody. Kiki always believed that if you kept on
putting all of your secrets out there, they lose value.

So, she cleared her throat and gave
her friends all of the details that they wanted to hear but left some things to
herself.

The day was a bit hectic, which
was usually the case on Mondays, and Kiki couldn’t wait to go back home. So, as
soon as she was done with her classes, Kiki collected her stuff and left
without even telling her friends.

Billy and Kiki had agreed to
have a date out in the woods because he felt he had to give her a glimpse of
his world- the kind of world that she had been dying to get to know all about.

So, at the end of the day, he
got out much earlier and went into the woods to make the necessary
preparations.

There was no suitable space due
to the overgrowth, so Billy decided to use his supernatural powers to make one.
But before he could turn into a bear and start uprooting trees all over the
place, he had to check everywhere just to make sure that nobody was watching.

The last thing he wanted to do
was expose himself, especially after just moving into the new town and getting
settled in.

Being a bear had its fair share
of disadvantages as much as it had its advantages. As far as the advantages
went, Billy was never in danger. He had super strength and had superfast
healing abilities.

He didn’t age, and thus, had to
move from place to place after every couple of years so that he wouldn’t draw
any attention to himself.

As for the disadvantages, he
couldn’t get attached to people since he would need to leave them after a
while. However, this didn’t stop him from falling for this black, beautiful
woman by the name of Kiki.

Apart from this, one other
thing that he worries about are the wolves. There are different kinds of shape
shifters, but the bears have been at odds with the wolves for centuries. A
wolf’s bite can be lethal to him, but his bite can be equally fatal to one. The
problem with wolves was that they always walked in packs and that made them
very dangerous. Bears, on the other hand, always lived alone.

Thankfully, there weren’t many
wolves in Brooklyn. This was the main reason he decided to move here.

Seeing no one in the vicinity,
Billy took off his shirt and bent over as a splitting headache kicked in from
nowhere. He clenched his fists as the pain seared through him. This always
happened when he transformed. It doesn’t seem like it was something that he can
get used to Brown fur started to sprout from his arms, and claws replaced his
human nails. His ears grew taller and hairy and so did his general body size.

In just a moment, Billy had
turned into a huge and menacing grizzly, and he tore a couple of trees down
with his claws.

Unbeknownst to him, Kiki was
watching him from a distance, and she just couldn’t stop wondering how he
managed to do that. She took a step and Billy suddenly stopped and sniffed
around. Kiki’s scent wafted through his nostrils.

At this, he started
transforming back to his human form. That also took a lot of strength and once
the transformation was complete, he stood there in the middle of the clearing,
all sweaty and naked.

“Can you kindly hand me my
clothes please?”

“Sure.”

Kiki took the huge bag as well
as the picnic basket that was in the direction Billy pointed and carried it to
where he was. Billy was so exhausted that Kiki felt sorry for a moment. He was
doing all this to himself just to make her day.

But despite that, it felt so
romantic and Kiki felt as though she was falling in love with him even more.

She went ahead and wiped his
sweaty body with the towel right before putting the shirt over his body. Kiki
then took it to herself to put the carpet down and laid out the picnic he
prepared for them to enjoy.

It was the most romantic thing
that Billy had ever done in his three hundred years and looked forward to
cuddling. For some reason, he felt a connection with Kiki that he never had
before.

During the picnic, Kiki asked a
lot of questions about his past. She was especially interested about the
seventeenth century, and how it was for someone who actually survived that
entire time.

She always suspected that
history books had left out some of the most important details about humanity.

Billy indulged her questions
and was fascinated by her curiosity. He told her about the secrets he knew and
some events that were indeed left out.

The two talked and cuddled
until it was dark. Then, Kiki asked if he wanted to go back to her place. Billy
was apprehensive about always staying at her place as he could feel himself
getting attached to her more and more with each moment they spent together.
This scared him.

The most traumatic moments in
his life were when he had to vanish and finally leave behind people he cared
about. He thought about when it would finally be time for him to leave Kiki.
This really killed him inside.

On the other hand, Kiki wanted
to be with Billy. She wanted to know all there is about him. She was willing to
uproot her life if that was what Billy needed. She was tired of living such a
mundane life. She pictured how it would be to be like him, become a bear. Even
if she hadn’t been with Billy that long, she knew she would do this for him. He
made her feel special and even forget about Kevin.

“But I don’t want to go.” Kiki
nagged while hugging the tree that they were leaning on.

“I don’t want to go as well.
But these woods are a little dangerous when it gets dark.”

“But you are strong enough to
protect me… right?”

“Yes, of course, but there is
absolutely no point in exposing you to that kind of risk.”

Kiki always listened to reason.
As much as she didn’t want to leave, she felt as though she didn’t have an
option. Besides, Billy was looking out for her and that felt really romantic.
Billy never stopped being such a sweet teddy bear.

So, she climbed on his back,
and he ran through the woods, tearing down trees with his hands and leaping
over great heights.

She always loved it when Billy
did this. She held tight onto his back. She didn’t want to let go of him. Kiki
closed her eyes and took a deep breath of fresh air. It was like she had never
felt before.

Finally, the lovebirds got back
to town and Kiki didn’t want to get off from his back. It just felt like the
right thing to do. The two had grown so attached within the short time that
they were dating that Kiki always felt comfortable letting out the little kid
inside while she was around him.

Billy didn’t mind at all. As a
matter of fact, Billy thought it was the cutest thing he had seen a human do.

“So, are you just going to stay
on my back?”  he asked, smiling.

“You realize I can do this for
an entire week. In fact, I was thinking of stopping with the driving to and
from school. All I need is to climb onto your back and get you to do the rest.”

They laughed about it as they
finally reached her apartment. As usual, Kiki invited him in. Before they went
in, however, he had to stop for a moment and sniffed around. Ever since Billy
got to town, he picked up a very queer scent that could only belong to a wolf.

He though that wolves weren’t
around and not once was Billy wrong before.

Wolves always hunted in packs,
so it was easy to pick up their scent. However, this seemed to be a loner wolf,
which is why Billy almost missed it.  Fortunately, this also meant it was easy
for him to tackle the wolf.

At that point, Billy would have
tackled ten wolves since the last thing he wanted was to be moved from a town
that he had already settled in. It seemed unfair what these wolves were doing
to him.

This time round, he was going
to take a stand. He didn’t want to have to leave Kiki any sooner than he had
to. Even if he died, he knew he got to spend his last moments where Kiki is.

“I can’t stay tonight,” he told
Kiki.

She looked a bit sad about this
but kissed him and let him go.
