Chapter 15:

Rayna

I had been so sick lately, and I didn’t know why. Ace was out of town, and I was currently throwing my guts up when Rico walked into the bathroom with a cold rag, laying it on the back of my neck.

“You okay?” he asked, looking so concerned.

“I think I just have food poisoning.”

“I haven’t taken you to eat anything though.”

“It has been going on all week,” I answered him. He stepped back for a second.

“Damn,” he sighed.

“What?” I said, looking into his eyes.

“I think you might be pregnant, Rayna.”

“No. Can’t be.”

“It’s not impossible,” he mumbled.

“Get out,” I said after thinking about it for a few seconds.

After about an hour, I heard my bedroom door open and Rico walked back in. I ignored him and turned back to the TV, and he walked over and snatched me off the bed, taking me into the bathroom. I noticed he had a Walgreen’s bag in his hand.

“Here. Take these,” he said, handing me three different pregnancy tests, and a cup to pee in.

“Wow,” I said, sitting on the toilet. I mugged him. “Ummm. Get out,” I said, rolling my eyes.

“Girl, I done seen that pussy inside out, now piss,” he said as if he was aggravated. I sat on the toilet for a few seconds before the urine started to roll out. I filled the cup up and sat it on the sink. I dipped the tips of the tests into the urine like the instructions said to do, and sat them on the sink before walking out. I set my timer on my phone for five minutes to check the tests. I laid back in my bed and closed my eyes. I could slowly feel my pressure start to rise. I hoped I wasn’t pregnant. After keeping my eyes closed for a while, my timer went off. I walked into the bathroom, where Rico was looking at the tests with a blank expression on his face. I grabbed the tests, and two of them had double lines, and the digital one said 3+ weeks.

“Oh my fucking goodness,” I said as I fell to the floor, breaking down. I felt Rico’s hand on my back. I looked up, and he had an expression on his face that I couldn’t read

“What am I going to do?” I said in between sobs.

“First, you have got to stop crying. We got ourselves into this. Now we have got to figure this shit out.”

“How though, Rico? I’m so scared. I don’t know if it’s his or yours.”

“I know how you’re feeling, Rayna. I have a wife at home that I am going to have to tell this to. I have a whole family that I’ve jeopardized, a seven-year-old daughter a six-month-old son,” he said, which made me cry harder. I had gotten myself into some real shit with a nigga who had an entire family.

“I’m going to get rid of it.” He raised his eyebrow.

“No you’re not. I won’t allow you to do that to yourself. There is a strong possibility that baby is mine, and I won’t allow it,” he said, looking me in my eyes.

“What do you mean? What do you think will happen if I keep it and it just so happens to be yours?” I said sniffling. “Ace will kill me,” I said looking down at my hands.

“Well, we have a choice. Either tell him now, or wait. I’d advise you to tell him now. Either way, he won’t kill you. I won’t allow that to happen.” I sat there thinking for a minute, not knowing what to do at this very moment. All I knew was that I was in some deep ass shit right now.

Later that evening, I heard the front door open.

“I’m home!” I heard Ace yell as he walked further into the house. I closed my eyes tightly, cringing at the fact of what I was about to have to do. I walked out of the kitchen to the front door and gave him a hug.

“Hey Anthony,” I said lowly.

“Oh shit, you called me by my government. Something is wrong. What’s wrong?” he said, starting to panic. I hated when his overprotective ass did shit like this.

“Sit down. We need to talk,” I said, walking towards the table.

“Wassup Rico,” he said, dapping Rico up as he walked in the room. I just wanted to run the fuck away, but I knew this had to be done and I started to feel a little safer with Rico here. “So wassup, baby?” Ace said, sitting at the dinner table and grabbing my hand.

“Ace. I’ve been really sick, throwing up every day, s-so I took a pregnancy test and...” I paused.

“And what?” Ace said, getting impatient.

“I’m pregnant.” He looked at me, cocking his neck to the side; he then sighed, scrunching his face up.

“So what’s the catch, Rayna? I can feel the fuck vibe. What’s the damn problem with you being pregnant?”

“I-I,” I said starting to stumble over my words.

“What!” he raised his voice, ready for me to get to the point.

“When I got those pictures of you having sex with that Veronica woman, I was so distraught that Rico comforted me, and we ended up having sex.”

Time froze as soon as that three letter word left my mouth. Before I knew it, Ace had jumped over the table with his hands around my neck. Rico punched him in his eye and he ended up letting go, which caused them to start going at it. They were going blow for blow, both of them looking like the heavyweight champions of the fucking world. Rico started to get the best of Ace, and I just couldn’t watch it anymore.

“STOP!” I said, stepping in between the men. They finally stopped fighting.

“Get the fuck out of my house, man. I don’t want to see you until the DNA test comes back in nine months,” Ace said, looking at me in disgust. I went upstairs and packed my suitcase. I left a lot, but I’d come back for that later. I needed to leave so I could lay down. I felt myself getting sick all over again, and there was only once place I could go right now without having to be alone.

Chapter 16:

Gena

I had just put Kenyah down for bed when I heard a knock at the door. I walked over to my door and looked through the peephole, seeing that it was a distraught looking Rayna.

“What the fuck,” I whispered to myself while opening up the door. As soon as the door opened, she fell into my arms sobbing. I walked her over to the couch and sat down. I picked her face up so I could look into her eyes that showed nothing but pain.

“Damn, I know this can’t be good. What happened?”

“Y-y-you know h-how I told you I s-slipped and had sex with Rico?”

“Yes, did Ace find out?”

“I-I’m pregnannnnt,” she said, breaking down all over.

“Oh shit,” I said aloud. “Is it Rico’s?” She shrugged her shoulders. I couldn’t believe that my girl was in this fucked up ass situation, but it could happen to just about anybody when you’re playing with fire the way she was. “Baby, you have got to be safer than that. A baby was not the worst thing that Rico could have given you; if it is his, you guys are just going to have to deal with it. I hate that you’re in this situation. I really do. You can utilize my guest room for as long as you need. You know I’m here for you Rayna, through anything.” I started to shed a few tears, heartbroken for my friend.

“Thank you so much, Gena,” she said lying on my lap and staring at nothing in particular.

“Have you eaten?” I asked her, honestly concerned about her health.

“No, not since earlier.”

“Come on, I made some spaghetti earlier. You can’t be doing all this stressing, and you have to make sure you’re eating.”

“I know, I’ve just been so sick,” she said, looking at me with sad eyes.

“When you get about two months, you can have the doctor prescribe you some ondansetron; that’s what I had to take when I was pregnant with Kenyah for the days I got sick.”

“Okay. I will do that. I should have thought of that. We give them to our patients all the time,” she said with a wondering face.

“What you thinking about?” I asked her, putting her bowl in the microwave.

“Rico is married with two kids, Gena. Something I had no clue of when I fucked him,” she said, looking down at her hands.

“Damn, that’s some deep shit. Why would he ever fuck you in the first place then?” I asked, starting to get a little upset.

“Well. He was kind of trying not to, but I wasn’t taking no for an answer, and then after that I guess he was just hooked,” she said, looking down at her food. I sat there just taking in everything that she was saying. I was trying to find the right words to say to her. I didn’t want to lie to her, but at the same time I didn’t want to make her feel any worse than she already felt.

“Did you bring any clothes?” I asked her while she ate.

“Yeah, I have a suitcase in the car. I have to go get the rest of my stuff tomorrow before he changes the locks,” she said. “Hand me your keys. I’ll go get it out of your car, and I’ll go with you to get the rest of your stuff tomorrow. I got your back,” I said, reassuring her.

“Thank you, Gena,” she said to me.

“It’s cool, girl. I’m not doing anything that you wouldn’t do for me.”

After Rayna went to bed, I got a phone call from Kay telling me that he was on his way over. I got up and made sure the house was clean. I brushed my teeth, and after ten minutes I heard my doorbell ring. I popped a piece of gum in my mouth and checked myself in the mirror before opening the door. He picked me up as soon as he walked in the door, carrying me to the kitchen counter and sitting me on top of it, hugging me tight.

“So I guess you missed me, huh?” I said full of laughter; his thug ass was being so sweet. I still low key had an attitude with him though. “I thought you had a girlfriend now,” I said, side eyeing him. He looked at me confused. “China?” I said in a sarcastic tone.

“I don’t even like her, baby,” he said, coming up and wrapping his arms around me from behind, and kissing my neck in the process.

“It sure didn’t look like it. I would have thought that was your baby she was carrying,” I said, turning my lip up at him.

“Damn Gena, you must want to have my baby. You seem kind of mad,” he said, kissing my ear. Why am I so weak for this man? I was sure that Slick was the only person that could make my knees weak like this.

“I don’t want none of your little foreign babies, nigga. I don’t do half breeds,” I said, laughing and knowing I was lying. He was so sexy that I’d take a baby or two from him one day. Just not today.

“You play so fucking much,” he said, picking me up and smiling wide, showing off his dimples. “Let's go to bed,” he whispered in my ear, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I wrapped my legs around his waist, allowing him to carry me to my bed. He put me down, climbing in between my legs and sliding my pants off. I started to feel those little butterflies in my stomach.

He kissed me from my belly button to my freshly shaved love box. He slid my panties down and off, burying his head in between my legs.

“Ohhh my goodness,” I said under my breath as he spread my lips apart while licking circles around my pearl, lightly sucking on it on occasion. My body stiffened, and I let out a soft moan as I reached my peak. He kept eating it, causing my body to jerk. I was weak and in one swift motion, he put my knees by my ear, plunging into me roughly. He was pleasuring me in the best way, and I looked down seeing my juices coating his stomach.

“How many rounds tonight?” I said out of breath.

“Until the sun comes up,” he said, kissing my forehead.

Chapter 17:

Enrico

I walked into my house looking down. I wasn’t ready to face this moment yet, but this was something that had to be done. At this point, I wasn’t even sure if Layla and I could be fixed. I had been by her side through all this depression, but nothing ever seemed like enough. That didn’t give me a right to cheat, but you could only push a man away enough before he got the hint. I noticed that the house was empty. I walked into my room and saw Layla lying on the bed watching TV.

“Where are the kids?” I asked, unbuttoning my shirt.

“At my mom’s house, how was your day?” she said, still looking at the TV like she could care less what my answer was going to be. I walked over and turned the TV off that she was watching.

“Why, Rico!” she said, raising her voice.

“I have to talk to you about something, Layla,” I said, sitting on the bed.

“Let me guess. You want to confess to me that you fucked that bitch you work for? I already know that, dummy,” she said in an annoyed tone.

“She’s pregnant,” I said, looking away from her. I stared at the wall before feeling something break against my head, causing me to be a little lightheaded. She had thrown a vase at me.

“HOW COULD YOU BE SO DAMN STUPID!!!” she screamed, charging toward me. I grabbed her, putting her hands behind her back as an officer would do. “Let me the fuck go!” she said full of rage.

“Layla, there is a good chance that the baby may be her boyfriend’s,” I said, trying to calm the situation a little.

“Nigga please! You know that’s going to end up being your baby! The way you looked at her, I knew something was going on! FUCK!” she said, sitting down and putting her face in her hands.

“I’m so sorry,” I said, hugging her, knowing those words meant nothing at this point, but it was all I could say. I wanted to regret it, but I didn’t. I wanted to be angry that I possibly had another child on the way by a woman other than my wife, but I wasn’t. Rayna was a great woman, and I always saw myself having a huge family. I wished it wouldn’t have unfolded like this, but shit happens.

I put the rest of my stuff in my bags before heading to my car. We decided that it was time for me to go find somewhere else to stay. This was bittersweet, but it was something that I couldn’t admit never crossed my mind during our hard times. Layla walked out, handing me my last bag. I put it in my car and grabbed her, embracing her into a long tight hug.

“I’m sorry I hurt you, Layla. I really am.” She sniffed her nose.

“Bye,” she said softly before returning to the house. I got in the car and laid my head back on the headrest, taking in the situation that had just unfolded before my eyes. I drove to a hotel close by and paid for a room. After my shower, I laid down and my mind started to wander. I picked up my phone and sent Rayna a text.

“Where are you?”

“At Gena’s house,” she replied.

“I’m coming to get you,” I said before getting up and grabbing my keys. I didn’t know why, but I felt a strong desire to be by her side throughout this whole ordeal, I guess because I felt that it was my fault as well. My phone vibrated, and Rayna had sent me another text saying that she’d be ready when I got there. I drove to Gena’s house playing
Patience
from Lucci’s
Wish Me Well
mixtape. When I got in front of Gena’s house, I got out and went to the door; after knocking twice, Rayna came to the door walking out with an overnight bag. She had her head down the whole walk to my Range Rover.

“You okay?” I asked, looking over to the passenger side of the car; she kept her head down. I left her alone for the time being and started to drive back to the hotel. As we were riding, I could see tears running down her cheeks, and I was just trying to figure out how in the hell I would possibly be able to help fix this broken woman.

“Is it cool enough in here for you?” I asked, and she shook her head yes. I walked over to her and grabbed her chin, causing her to look into my eyes.

“You cannot allow this shit to take control of you, Rayna.” Tears started to fall down her cheeks. I pulled her in closer to me and kissed her lips “I know what you’re thinking, but I promise you have me. You’re not alone. I’m going to be by your side, no matter what.”

Rayna

“I know what you’re thinking, but I promise you have me. You’re not alone. I’m going to be by your side, no matter what,” he said, rubbing his thumb across my cheek and wiping the tear that had escaped my eye without my permission. It seemed like that was all I had been doing today; hopefully my entire pregnancy wouldn’t be this way.

“You have got to stop doing so much crying, Rayna. It’s not good for your health, or the baby’s. My life is fucked up too. I went against my wedding vows and I brought you into this. We fucked up, but now it’s time to right our wrongs and figure out how to pick up the pieces to our lives.”

“I just look so bad out here. I cheated on the man who loved me when nobody else did, and I might be pregnant by a married man. I swear, I didn’t know you were married until it was already done, but I’m sure nobody will believe me,” I said, wiping yet another tear from my eye.

“Fuck everybody else, just know I got you. Nothing else fucking matters at this point,” he said, looking into my eyes and giving me a soft peck on my lips.

“Awww, you got a soft spot for little ole Rayna,” I said, trying to bring a little humor to the situation. He smiled, looking away from my eyes.

“Maybe I do,” he said, pulling me closer to his chest. “We’re going to get through this shit together, ma,” he said, kissing my forehead. The feeling of security from his strong arms caused me to fall into a deep slumber.
