Lyndley

Ky and I stood outside of my parent’s house, both of us hesitant to enter. I wasn’t sure what we would be walking into, but with Ky by my side I was a little less scared. I knew that this man would never let a single bad thing happen to me and I took comfort in that. I took in a deep breath and looked over at Ky. “You ready for this?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be.”

We entered the house hand in hand ready to take on the world. My father was the first one to approach us and without saying a single word, he pulled me into his arms and hugged me tight. I let him hold me for as long as he needed and when he finally put me back down, I placed a soft kiss to his cheek. I smiled up at him, knowing that he fully approved of the choice I had made.

Ky held his hand out for
my father to shake, but instead, he pulled Ky into a hug as well. Shocking us both. “I know you’ll take care of my precious girl. Don’t prove me wrong.”

“I wouldn’t think of it, Sir.”

“I told you son, call me Greg.

“Thank you, Greg.”

“Well, let’s head out to the firing squad.” My father joked as he led us out back where my mother and sister were waiting for us.

“Not funny, Daddy.” I whispered.

The minute Carson saw us coming she jumped up out of her chair and ran straight for us, pulling us both into a great big hug. “Oh my god, I love you both so much.”

“We love you too, Carson.” Ky replied and I looked up at him adoringly.

Carson stood there admiring my ring when my mother finally stood and made her way over to us. I was preparing myself for the worst, but prayed that she would see how happy I was.

“First off, I want to apologize to
the both of you. I was wrong for what I did, keeping you two apart like that. I never want to see my daughter hurt and I ended up being the reason she was. I can see how much you two love each other and I would never want to take that away from either of you. Ky I am truly sorry for how I have treated you. You didn’t deserve my anger and hatred. I think it was my own guilt more than anything, that kept me from seeing that you were only trying to protect my daughter, and for that I thank you. Welcome to the family, son. Take good care of my baby girl, as I know you will.”

“I promise you I will, Mrs. Caverly. She’s my top priority now.”

“Please, call me Anna.”

Ky looked over at me in disbelief and I just shrugged my shoulders as my mom leaned forward and pulled him into a loving embrace. The only thing I could do was stand back and smile. This was all I needed to be happy. My family meant the world to me and now so did Ky. Having them all be able to come together as one
, was more than I could have hoped for.

I had never known what it felt like to have someone love you more than life itself. Ky had shown me what that love felt like and brought out things in myself that I didn’t even know existed. I knew deep down that Ky was brought into my life for a reason. He was my guardian angel and my savior all in one, and I would spend the rest of our lives proving to him that I was worthy of his love
, just as he was worthy of mine. It didn’t matter where our lives took us next, because as long as we had each other, we had it all.

Ruger

For the last month I had been tryin’ my hardest to get Carson to notice me, but that seemed to be a bigger obstacle than I had originally anticipated. This girl was unlike any other girl I had ever met, and it was killin’ me that she wouldn’t give me the time of day. Usually all I would have to do is flash my badge and the panties would drop, but Carson was a whole other breed of girl.

“Ruger, what are you doing?” Ky’s voice boomed through the empty gun range.

“What are you talking about?”

“Are you gonna shoot something or what?”

Sometimes I really wanted a new friend. “Yeah, asshole. I’m just loading my clip.” This was a total lie. “Hey, when is your engagement party again?”

“Next weekend asshat. Lyndley gave you the invite almost a month ago. Why?”

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tell him the real reason I was askin’, but somehow or another I knew he would find out eventually. Before I could open my mouth to give him the run down, he was already reading my thoughts.

“Carson asked if you were coming. What the hell is going on with the two of you anyway?”

Shit! “Nothin’ much. I haven’t spoken to her in a while. Why would she be askin’ if I’m goin’?” I was tryin’ to play it cool, but was failing miserably.

“Am I gonna have to step in and stop something that shouldn’t be happening? You know Lyndley will kill me if she finds out that the two of you are hooking up behind her back, right?”

Oh if he only knew. “It’s not like that, Wakely. Just forget about it.” I picked up my gun, aimed at the target down range, and squeezed the trigger as many times as I could. This was exactly what I needed today, and I was determined to keep my mind occupied with anything not pertaining to Carson. Maybe.
