Jake took off his hat and ran his finger
through his graying hair. “Dusty, our mechanic, is out of town for
the weekend. He’ll be back Monday morning.” As Jake spoke, Kayla
felt her stomach drop. “I’d be glad to help you, but from what this
young man tells me, it sounds like you need Dusty to take care of
it.”

“That’s two days away.” A feeling of
helplessness overcame her, but then she pushed it away. She didn’t
like that feeling and she wasn’t going to wallow in it. “I don’t
suppose there’s a motel in this town?”

The older man jerked his thumb down the road.
“If there’s a room, you can stay at the Blue Moon.”

“Thank God.” She felt a rush of relief. “I
didn’t think there would be anything in a town this small.”

Kayla arranged to have the car towed to the
garage and thanked Jake. Tate gassed up his Tahoe then took her to
the motel.

When she learned there was no room at the
Blue Moon, she thought about banging her head against the wall this
time.

“I have enough food for two for a week’s
outing and plenty of room,” Tate said as they walked out the glass
door. “You’re welcome to camp with me.”

She glanced at him and considered her
options. Sleeping in her car, parked outside a garage in a strange
town or camping out with a guy she just met.

“It’s getting late in the day.” Tate rested
his arm on the back of his truck when they reached the vehicle.
“Need to get camp set up before it gets dark.”

She studied him. As well as sexy and good
looking, he was a genuinely nice guy. She had pretty good radar for
jerks and assholes and he definitely wasn’t either of those.

“Oh, come on.” He leaned against the truck
and shoved both hands into his pockets. “You sound adventurous and
you have all kinds of time. Your sister isn’t even expecting you.
Two months you said. What is a couple of days?” He smiled. “If
you’re wondering about me, I am as safe as can be.”

“Well, maybe I’m not,” she said laughing.
“Have you considered that?”

“You, dangerous? Yeah, right”. He pushed away
from the truck. “So what do you say?”

“I’ve always been a bit of a free spirit...”
She tilted her head. “Why not? Where are we going?”

He gave a quick, friendly grin. “Back in the
direction where you broke down. I was coming into town to gas up
and get a few items at the store. We can get some of your things
out of your car before it’s towed.”

Tate and Kayla went to the general store and
grabbed a few more supplies that would be needed. They bought more
food, a bottle of wine, marshmallows, kitchen matches, and rope.
She wondered what the rope was for. She could certainly think of a
thing or two.to do with it.

Would like the ways she preferred to use
rope?

It wasn’t long before they were on the road
and met up with Jake as he was about to haul off the Mustang on the
back of the bed of a tow truck. With Jake’s help she retrieved a
few things from the back of her car, including a jacket, and she
and Tate parted ways with the man.

As they headed off, the sun low in the sky,
Kayla wondered, not for the first time, what in the hell she was
doing heading into the woods with a stranger.

Chapter 2

While Kayla helped Tate set up, she found
herself enjoying his company. He was smart, funny, and friendly.
The fact that he was totally hot was a bonus. He had high energy
and she was glad she was fit and able to keep up.

As they finished setting up the tent, he
said, “You seem to know your way around a camp. You’re pretty
handy.”

She smiled. “I grew up with a father and
brothers who liked to camp, hunt, and fish. I loved the camping and
fishing part. Never could get into hunting.”

He hammered the last stake into the ground
with a flat rock. “How many brothers and sisters do you have?”

“Two older brothers, two younger sisters.”
Kayla brushed dirt off her hands. “I was a tomboy and loved to
follow my brothers around. My mother and my sisters were, and still
are, girly. They never got into the outdoor activities with my
father and brothers like I did.” She followed him to the truck.
“What about you?”

“One sister.” Tate pulled a tarp out of the
truck. “She lives in Denver with her husband and their twins, my
niece and nephew. Like your sisters, Kate doesn’t get in into
roughing it.”

He drew out some rope and set it on the
tailgate, then brought out a couple of metal poles. “I need to make
a lean-to that we can use to put stuff.”

“I’ll do it.” She wiped her hands on her jean
shorts as she walked toward him.

“Sure.” He handed her the rope and they
raised the tarp and he held one of the poles so that she could tie
the tarp to it.

As he watched her, he said, “Wow, look at
those knots. You’re pretty good that way.”

She laughed. “You have no idea.”

He gave her a quirky grin. “You sound pretty
cocky.”

“I’m confident I know how to use rope,” she
said. “What I tied down is not coming loose.”

“True confessions,” he said. “I actually had
a girlfriend tell me that same thing when we were playing around.
She made a bet with me that I couldn’t get out. She lost.”

“Well, if you ever made a bet with me, you
would lose,” Kayla said. “I’m good at it.”

“Oh, you think so?” he said.

She finished tying the last knot on the
lean-to. “I know so.”

“What’s the bet?” He gave her an amused
look.

She knew her expression was cocky but she
knew she would win. “I don’t need a bet. I can do it for sport and
watch you squirm.”

He laughed. “Okay. But if I get out, what do
I get?”

She had no doubt he wouldn’t be collecting
the reward because he wasn’t going to win. “If you win,” she said,
“I’ll buy dinner at the most expensive restaurant in Denver. But
you’ll lose, so you get to buy.”

“Deal.” He held his hand out and she took
it.

“Deal,” she replied. “But let’s do it
tomorrow when we have more time. We still have a lot to do to set
up camp.”

“Stalling?” he said.

With another laugh she said, “You’re going to
be sorry you made the bet.”

He just shook his head and then they
collected firewood and cleared a large area of brush before digging
a small pit and circling it with large stones. They built a modest
fire just as it was getting dark.

When they kicked back in a couple of camping
chairs, she watched him place a couple of baking potatoes in foil
and put in the coals along with two cored out onions wrapped in
foil with butter in the center. After cooking for a while, he put
on a big steak that they would split. The delicious smell made her
stomach rumble. When they finally ate, the dinner was amazing.

He sat close to her as they ate and they
drank wine out of plastic cups. She realized she was completely
comfortable around him, not to mention extremely attracted. She
felt electrical sensation around him, as high energy as he was. She
was certain he was just as attracted to her. She was pretty good at
reading guys.

And she so could not wait to tie him up. One
of her favorite things was to tie up big, strong men, and Tate
qualified for that role.

Firelight illuminated their campsite with an
orange glow, the forest dark and brooding where the light didn’t
reach. The air had already chilled, but the fire gave off enough
heat to ward off most of the cold.

The light danced across his features as she
looked at him. He was hot and sexy and despite the fact that he was
a stranger, she wanted him.

They talked for hours as they ate, then they
roasted marshmallows and made s’mores. The chocolate melted on the
graham crackers, the marshmallows sticky enough to keep it all
together.

When they finished the last of the s’mores,
she licked each of her fingers as she looked up at the sky.
“Beautiful,” she said. “You sure don’t get a night sky like this in
the city.”

“Nope.” He glanced at the sky. “Sure
don’t.”

He got up from his camping chair, grabbed a
towel and wet it from the ten-gallon water cooler that he had moved
onto the tailgate. He handed the towel to her to wipe off the last
of the stickiness then cleaned his own hands.

As he started searching through gear the back
of the truck, he frowned. “I only have one sleeping bag but I found
a blanket. Not a lot of good that blanket will do us.”

She walked up to him and rubbed her arms with
her hands to warm herself a little from the chill.

“So a ploy to lure me into the sleeping bag
with you.” She gave him a teasing look as she took the blanket from
him.

“Sorry,” he said. “I wasn’t planning on
company. Not to say I don’t like it.”

She glanced at the tent that looked small but
was fairly roomy inside. “I suppose we can push those two air
mattresses together that we aired up earlier. Then we can put the
blanket down and share it with the sleeping bag over us.”

“Sure you’re okay with that?” he asked.

She raised an eyebrow. “Where would you sleep
otherwise?”

He glanced toward his truck and back to her.
“In the cab.”

“This will be fine.” She started toward the
tent with the blanket then glanced over her shoulder. “Unless
you’re afraid of what I might do to you.”

Still holding the sleeping bag, he shook his
head and grinned, and followed her to the tent and they tossed the
blanket and sleeping bag inside before going back to the fire to
put it out.

When they covered the fire with dirt and had
made sure all of the coals were dead, they returned to the tent.
Both of them were quiet as they walked, thick tension between them,
and she felt a nervous flutter in her stomach. He grabbed a couple
of flashlights and the light bobbed along the ground and onto the
trees as they went.

The tension was sexual and she knew she
wanted him and bad, and she was certain he felt like she did. It
had been in the way he looked at her, in the tone of his voice, in
the way that he would brush up against her.

Her heart rate picked up a bit as she scooted
into the tent. He waited outside for her to push the two twin-sized
air mattresses together and then she laid the blanket over them.
She grabbed the sleeping bag and rolled it out, over the
blanket.

What clothing she had grabbed from the car
was in a bag in one corner of the tent.

“Hold on,” she said as she rummaged through
the bag for a nightgown. She ran across a pair of stockings and
shook her head. What was she going to use those for in the middle
of nowhere?

Cold air chilled her skin and she hurried to
ditch the clothing she was wearing and pull on the nightgown she
had brought with her—it wasn’t very substantial because she hadn’t
planned on roughing it. She shivered as she climbed under the
sleeping bag and set her flashlight on her side of the bed and
clicked it off.

“It’s safe to come in,” she called out as she
waited to get warm beneath the sleeping bag.

He crawled into the tent and zipped the door
flap behind him. The glow from his flashlight caused shadows on his
face and darkened his eyes.

She pretended not to watch as he stripped out
of his clothing, leaving only his boxer briefs. His body was even
more beautiful when it was bare. All of that firm and toned muscle,
broad shoulders and the flex of muscle in his back. His ass was
tight beneath his boxer briefs and his powerful thighs looked like
they certainly did belong to a rugby player.

His gaze met hers as he slid under the
sleeping bag then he turned off his flashlight, dousing the tent in
darkness save for the small amount of moonlight that came
through.

“Alone at last,” she said in a teasing
voice.

“Not that we haven’t been alone all night.”
His voice was so sexy it sent a thrill to her belly.

His features were starting to become a little
more visible as her eyes adjusted to the darkness. She shivered
from the cold that seemed to be more than the sleeping bag could
protect them from.

“It’s cold,” she said. “Think we should share
some body heat?”

“Sure.” He moved closer and she snuggled up
against him as he wrapped his arms around her. His masculine scent,
the heat of his body, the feel of his skin and taut muscle against
her softer body was enough to set her libido on fire. Even more
than it already was.

She tilted her chin up and he bumped his jaw
on the top of her head as she looked at him. “I don’t do one night
stands.”

“Neither do I,” he said.

Their lips met as they reached for each
other. His kiss was tentative at first but then it grew in
intensity, becoming harder, fiercer. She slid her knee between his
legs and hooked one leg over his hip as they kissed, trying to get
closer to him. As her body snugged against his she felt his
erection against her belly. It felt thick and hard and she ground
herself against him and felt heat down below.

He grabbed her upper thigh and pulled her
even closer to him as he kissed her and pumped his hips against
hers as if he was taking her. She ran one of her hands over his
powerful shoulder, down to his muscular chest and down to his hip.
She dug her fingers into his tight ass.

Tate drew away and nuzzled her ear. “This is
one way to get warm.”

She pushed at his shoulder and he rolled onto
his back, following her motion. She climbed on top and straddled
him, his cock rubbing between her thighs as she moved along it. The
movement only made her want more.

“Kayla.” He sounded almost in pain. “Do you
know what you’re doing? You’re bringing me dangerously close to
fucking you.”

“No.” She pushed his shoulders down with her
palms and he didn’t try to fight her. “I’m going to fuck you.”

His breathing grew heavier. “I don’t have a
condom. I need to get into my bag.”
