Shaun sighed and pocketed his phone. He’d deal with all that when he had to. First he needed to be absolutely sure of what he wanted. No need to put his gran—or himself—through some big scene if it wasn’t going to matter in the end.

The lobby door swung open, and Shaun mustered up a smile as Con walked in, wearing the same swim trunks from the previous weekend, this time with a snug black tank top and a pair of flip-flops. He held a tiny piece of black fabric in one hand.

“Now, before you say no,” he said, holding up his free hand, palm out. “Yes, it’s a Speedo, but it’s designed for full coverage. Nothing hanging out. Plus it’ll probably be a little big on you, so it’ll be extra-full coverage.”

Shaun gave the suit a skeptical glance. “Why aren’t you wearing them, then?”

Con looked sheepish. “Um, I didn’t exactly buy them with full coverage in mind. Bought a size smaller than I usually wear.” He gave a tentative smile. “They’ll cover more of you than they would of me.”

I guess if they’re too small, I can just go in my boxer briefs.
Shaun rolled his eyes and held out a hand. “I’ll give them a try.”

Con’s smile widened as he handed the suit over. “Meet you by the pool?”

“I’ll be there.” Shaun turned and headed down the hallway toward the restroom, which sat next to the room Jimmy used to give massages. Inside he locked himself in, took a deep breath, and stripped before stepping into the Speedo and pulling it into place.

He turned to look in the mirror and did a double take.
Damn.
He looked
hot
. The suit did cover everything, and the material was thick enough that it didn’t cling too much in the wrong places. But it was tight enough to outline the shape of his hips and, as he turned to the side, the mounds of his ass.

If he’d known he’d look like this in a Speedo, he would’ve been wearing them all along.

Or maybe not
, he thought as he pictured the look on his gran’s face if he’d pulled something like this out for the trip they’d taken to the beach earlier in the summer. Okay, so maybe he should save these for the resort, where he knew the view would be appreciated.

He pictured the look on Con’s face instead, and he felt his face heat. Somehow he didn’t think they’d be swimming for long, and he wondered if maybe Con had planned it that way.

At that moment he didn’t even care. He grabbed his clothes, took one last look in the mirror, and headed for the pool. Con could look all he wanted, as long as Shaun got what he wanted too.

And what he wanted was Con.

Chapter FOURTEEN

THE LOW
whistle Con let out when Shaun stepped into the pool enclosure had the twin effects of making him blush and turning him on—the latter probably enough that Con could see it.

“Stop it,” he muttered as he walked toward the steps into the pool.

“What, I can’t appreciate a hot guy when he’s standing in front of me? Wearing
my
clothes, and you know that makes it even hotter.”

Shaun’s face heated more, and he reluctantly admitted to himself it wasn’t entirely from embarrassment.

Thankfully, in a moment he was in the water, which cooled him down a little. Unfortunately the water also contained Con, whose presence was enough to get him going again, even without considering all that wet, bare skin.

Not that he could exactly miss that. He moved closer, drawn like a moth to a flame, until he was close enough for Con to reach out and draw him in for a kiss. Shaun sighed as he opened up and let Con’s tongue in, meeting it with his own.

Con’s soft chuckle against his lips made Shaun realize Con had tried to pull away, and Shaun had followed him with his mouth. “I could do that all night,” Con said, “but we did come here to swim a little, right?”

Shaun grinned. “I don’t know about you, but I sure did.”

He struck off for the far end of the pool, under no illusions that he could actually beat Con in a true race, but he didn’t care about that. He just swam as best he could, until his fingers brushed the wall and he pulled up, gasping because he hadn’t quite gotten the hang of breathing between strokes.

“You sneak.” Con wrapped his arms around him from behind, fitting his long, hard body against Shaun’s, and Shaun sagged back into Con’s heat. “Not a fair race when you get a head start like that. I want a rematch.”

Con slid one hand down to brush over Shaun’s groin, where his dick was waking up and taking quite an interest in things, and then Shaun jumped when Con brought his other hand into play, sliding his fingers along the crease between Shaun’s torso and thigh.

“Or,” Con purred into Shaun’s ear, “we could cut the swim session short and go have some private time in my cabin.”

Shaun’s body sure liked the sound of that.

Con kissed the spot behind Shaun’s ear that sent shivers through his whole body. “You have a while before you need to head home, don’t you? Nobody says we have to spend it all in the pool.”

“Mmmm.” Shaun shook his head and let his eyes fall shut as he sank into the sensual web Con wove around them. He soaked in the way Con touched him, simultaneously firm and gentle, sending heat throughout his body.

“C’mon,” Con whispered. “I want to touch you all over.”

Feeling almost drunk on sensation, Shaun let Con lead him out of the pool, pausing long enough to gather up their clothes and slip on shoes. He followed Con out of the pool enclosure and across the gravel road to Con’s cabin. They paused inside long enough to kick off their shoes before Con took Shaun’s hand and led him into the bathroom, where he stopped and reached for Shaun’s Speedos.

“Shower first,” he said as he pushed at the wet waistband. “Get the chlorine washed off so I can taste your skin.”

Shaun lifted his face to kiss Con again and let him strip away the suit, freeing Shaun’s cock, which had been hard since Con had kissed him in the pool. Con kept the kiss going while he pushed off his own suit, and then he wrapped an arm around Shaun and backed him toward the tub.

Eventually Con had to pull away to get the water running, but as soon as the shower was warm, he led Shaun under the spray and resumed kissing him. Shaun ran his hands over Con’s skin, helping clean off the pool water with fresh in the most pleasurable way possible.

They kissed and touched until Shaun couldn’t stand another moment. He fumbled for the faucet to turn off the water and then yanked the shower curtain aside. “Bed,” he gasped. “Before my knees give out.”

Con followed him, grabbing towels so they could make a cursory effort at drying off on their way into the bedroom. The bed was partially made up, bedspread pulled up over the sheets, and the pillows lined up at the top, but Shaun didn’t bother with the covers. He just grabbed Con’s hand and pulled, tumbling them both onto the mattress.

They rolled together, touching and writhing, until they ended up with Shaun on his back and Con leaning over him. Con smiled, the heat in his eyes enough to sear Shaun to the bone.

“Now I’m gonna get a good taste of that sweet skin,” he said, and he went to work. Starting with Shaun’s neck, he sucked, licked, and nibbled his way down. He laved Shaun’s nipples to hard points and ran his tongue down the center of Shaun’s abs, flicking it into his belly button and then rasping the flat along the line of his hipbone, lingering over the spots that made Shaun jerk and moan.

Just when Shaun was about to beg him to put his mouth where he needed it most, Con lifted his head, licked his lips, and then went down on Shaun’s cock.

Shaun shouted, his hips coming off the mattress in reflex, but Con just moved with him and brought one big hand up to lay low across his abdomen to hold him still. He sucked Shaun in deeper, and Shaun dug his fingers into the bedspread below him, hanging on for dear life.

“Fuck,” he spat out. “Oh my
God
, you’re good at that.”

Con lifted off just long enough to say, “Practice,” before going back to work.

Shaun thought his brain must have taken leave of his head, because all that was going on up there was a constant litany of
yes yes yes
. When Con added his free hand into the mix, cupping and rolling Shaun’s tight balls, Shaun let out a sound he’d never made before and came so hard he thought he’d seen heaven.

When he came back to himself, Con was kneeling over him, hand a blur on his own cock. Shaun lifted a shaking hand to run his fingertips down Con’s thigh, and Con shouted, spurting his release across Shaun’s body.

Shaun watched, fascinated, as Con’s body shook above him. All his muscles clenched up tight, and then soon after they relaxed, and Con lowered himself to his side on the mattress next to Shaun.

“Jesus,” Con gasped through harsh breaths. “That was…. Holy fuck.”

Shaun laughed unsteadily. “That’s mighty articulate of you.”

Con snorted and rolled forward to blanket himself over Shaun’s body. “Lemme rest up some, and I’ll show you articulate.” He shifted. “And maybe show you a shower too. Kinda sticky now.”

Shaun brought his still trembling arms up to wrap around Con. “Not a problem. You make a pretty good teddy bear.”

Con’s body shook as he chuckled. “Think I’m not hairy enough to be a bear, but I’ll take it.” He kissed the patch of skin on Shaun’s chest that was closest to his mouth. “You a cuddler, I guess?”

Shaun shrugged. “Dunno,” he replied. “Never had much chance to cuddle.”

Con lifted his head at that. “You never had sex with girls?”

“Not….” Shaun felt himself blush. “Fooled around some. Mostly not in the bedroom, though. It just never did that much for me, and they always seemed to want more than I did, you know? So I finally just stopped trying.”

Con nodded. “I know that feeling. Deanna was the first—only—woman I had sex with. I mean, actual penis-into-vagina sex. I figured there was something wrong with me because I just didn’t care that much about it, but she seemed happy.” He laughed and laid his head back on Shaun’s chest. “I can be pretty dense sometimes.”

“Look who you’re talking to. I’m lying in bed after hot sex with a hot guy and still trying to decide whether or not to come out.”

Con pushed up again, his gaze intent as he met Shaun’s. “You don’t have to decide right now,” he said. “You don’t have to do anything. I know what I said before, and what Jimmy said, and probably what some of the other guys would tell you too. But it has to be
your
decision, and you have to do it
your
way. Don’t do it because you think it’s what I want. Or what anyone else wants. It’s gotta be for you.”

Impulsively, Shaun sat up far enough to catch Con’s lips in a lingering kiss. “It will be,” he said as he pulled back a bare inch. “But thank you.”

He kissed Con again, and as Con lowered his body to rest full length atop Shaun’s, Shaun let the rest of the world fall away. Right then, for that night, he would forget everything else and enjoy feeling the way Con made him feel.

The real world would be there when he got back to it.

SHAUN’S ALARM
woke him at way-too-early Friday morning. He felt as if his head had hardly hit the pillow. He’d been so muzzy-headed driving home the night before that he’d left his car at Doraville and taken MARTA to East Point, not feeling up to dealing with downtown Atlanta traffic even at close to midnight.

He’d just dragged his tired ass out of the shower when he heard raised voices upstairs. He frowned as he pulled on clothes, and the voices didn’t stop. One sounded like Gran, but the other voice, a man, wasn’t one he recognized.

Heart in his throat, he shoved his feet into shoes and took the stairs up to the house. He swung around the corner into the living room to find his gran faced off with none other than Willis Erwin.

“What the hell?”

The two turned toward him. “Shaun, son—”

That was as far as Erwin got. “Get the hell out of my house,” Shaun demanded, across the room with a hand on Erwin’s upper arm almost before he knew he was moving.

“Now, there’s no need for violence,” Erwin protested.

“There’s gonna be a lot
more
violence if you don’t
get the hell out of my house
.”

The front door still stood open, which made it much easier for Shaun to shove the screen door open and push Erwin out onto the front stoop. Erwin stumbled before catching himself and spinning on one heel, shooting daggers at Shaun.

“I only want to talk to your grandmother about—”

“You don’t
talk
to her. You don’t
look
at her. You don’t
think
about her. You stay away from me and my family, or I’ll—”

“You’ll what?” Erwin’s face darkened with anger. “You’ll call the cops? You think they’ll care about another domestic in this part of town? Take some nigger boy’s word over an upstanding citizen like me?”

Shaun fought back, barely, the urge to punch Erwin in the face. “This ‘nigger boy’ is the son of a decorated cop who died protecting two small children,” he growled out. “And if you ever show your face at this house again, they’ll have no problem at all arresting you for trespassing. And whatever else they can find to charge you with.” He smiled, slow and not at all nicely. “They can be pretty creative when people threaten family.”

That took some of the wind out of Erwin’s overblown sails—but not all of it. “This isn’t over,” he snarled.

“It better be.” Shaun stepped back into the house, letting the screen door slam closed and then closing the front door almost as firmly.

He took a deep breath and then turned to face the rest of the story.

“THAT MAN
is
not
your father.”

Shaun sighed. He’d told Gran everything—leaving out the unflattering wording Erwin had used to refer to his mama—and she hadn’t come up with any evidence that he wasn’t telling the truth. But she was insistent that she was right nonetheless.

“It doesn’t matter, Gran. I don’t want to know if he is.”

Gran straightened in her chair. “I know my daughter. She might have made a mistake back then, getting herself in trouble like that, but she wasn’t one to fall for the kind of story somebody like that would’ve spun.”
