I think about it in silence for a few minutes. Earning a surprised look on her face. “You don’t like music, do you?” I feel bad in a weird way, or maybe I feel stupid. I mean she loves music, it’s her life.

“I’m not saying I don’t like it; I’m just saying I don’t really have a preference.” She giggles and rolls her eyes like she doesn’t believe me and I just let her think it. We drive the rest of the way with her flipping radio stations, trying to find one I like. When we pull up next to the sign reading Cove Haven, her mouth drops open.

“A couple’s resort? I have heard so much about this place!” she exclaims, looking out the window as her button nose smashes into the glass.

“Here we are. Get ready for a full two weeks of nothing but us. Heart-shaped pools, champagne Jacuzzi baths, and tons of other fun things to do.” Her smile gets bigger and she jumps out of the car as soon as we stop.

“Oh my god, did you see that pool! It’s freaking shaped like a heart! This is so beautiful. Thank you for bringing me here,” she says, looking around as she walks.

“Wait until you see the room.” I give her a naughty smile. We check in and get our room key and make our way upstairs in the elevator. We stop in front of room 703 where I swipe the key card and we enter into a room filled with red lights. It’s huge. There’s a living room with a small sectional couch and TV. In the next room, the wall is made of glass, showing off a personal heart-shaped pool. We venture into a small closet area which turns out to be a sauna. There’s a small massage table to the left of that and a bathroom. Her eyes light up with each thing she sees, but all that runs through my head is using it all. We walk up the stairs to the bedroom—mirrors line the walls and ceiling. There’s a round bed in the corner, draped with a purple bed set. She walks over to a small opening, leading to the giant champagne Jacuzzi tub for two. “I don’t know about you, but I could live here.” She laughs, playfully lying in the glass with no water. “Oh my god, there’s mirrors so you can watch yourself! And stars over the top of this!” She is rolling down laughing as she looks around.

I can’t help but laugh with her. I’ve never seen her so happy. I hope she stays like this the whole time. She still hasn’t mentioned much about the shit with Jake or her car. She’s holding it in, and as long as she is, the worse the breakdown will be. She gets really quiet as if she has fallen asleep, so I peek in on her. I get a dazed smile from her and then she says she’s hungry again.

“Why don’t you go get freshened up, and I will go get our luggage? When we are done, we can go take a look around the place and have a romantic dinner.”  She comes out of the shower, looking breathtaking. In this moment I feel completely different; she’s changed me in so many good ways. I no longer feel like that heartbroken boy who lost his family. That guy who sat back and watched innocent girls be hurt in the most inhuman ways. She makes me happy. She makes me forget.

The way her black, long-sleeved dress shows off bits and pieces of skin through the lace, her long hair pulled up into a messy, yet classy clip… I don’t want to leave the room. I want to rip it off her and devour her until she begs me to stop. I hold my excitement back, for her sake, at least until after dinner.

“You look absolutely stunning, you wear that dress well,” I say, holding my hand out for her to take. Bashfully taking my hand, we go downstairs and off to explore. We walk pass the heart-shaped pool, a couple making out by a small fire pit, and into a small bar/restaurant. She isn’t allowed to drink but a small glass of red wine every now and again, so she can have one tonight with dinner. A male waiter shows us to our seats and we jump right in and order our food before he gets the chance to walk away. He says it will take about thirty minutes and that we can enjoy our time in the arcade, pool tables, or darts.

“Do you play pool?” she asks hopeful, pointing in the direction of the tables. I have played when I was in college but haven’t in a really long time. I doubt I’ll be any good at it.

“I have, how about you?” I already know the answer to that question, but to make chit-chat I ask anyway.

“I am actually pretty kick-ass if you think you can take me on.” She winks, going over to the table to pick out her pool stick.

“How about a wager? You win you get to pick whatever you want. I win we eat and go back to the room so I can watch that dress fall to the floor in a pile at your feet,” I whisper in her ear. She goes flush on the spot, and I think she might lose on purpose.

“You’re on, Doctor Sexy. Show me what you got.” I run my fingers along the pool sticks, finding the right one.” I place the pool balls in the rack on the table, shuffling them up in order.

“You wanna break, bad ass, or should I?” I say, lining the white ball to the end of the triangle.

She lines up her stick. Leaning over, she closes one eye and makes the break. The balls scatter across the red velvet, the first ball to fall in a pocket is solid.  She calls it, and we start a very seductive game of pool. I try to distract her, leaning in close and breathing on her neck with each shot. She comes back at me when I shoot, leaning across the table letting her cleavage push against push against it. I can’t wait to have her tits in my mouth—just staring at them smashed against the table has my dick getting hard. She winks, and I take the shot missing terribly. This earns me a laugh.

“I knew you’d miss! Ha!” She moves next to me to take her shot, bending forward once more. I grab her by the hips, pulling her flush against the hardness in my pants. This time, when she takes her shot, I make sure to caress her ass in one quick squeeze. When she misses again, we decide the game is over. If not, we will be having sex in a public bar, on a pool table, despite who sees.

“So since I got more balls in the pockets, does that mean I win?” she says, swaying her hips back to the table.

“That’s exactly what that means. So what was your wager?” Once we take our seats back at the table, she leans across to my ear.

“To eat, then watch my dress fall to the floor. And maybe making love in the champagne glass.” Hearing my bet roll off her lips in the sweetest whisper and I don’t know if we can stay for dinner. Immediately following that thought, the waiter brings our food. She has been holding her food down all day, which is a good sign. We eat as quickly as possible—there’s so much to look forward to back at the room.

We walk up the path leading to the champagne tower, our hotel is called that; it’s pretty obvious as to why. Once the door closes on the elevator, she’s on me. Pushing my back against the wall, kissing me. She tastes so good and the way she takes charge is hot as hell. The door opens, and another couple getting in breaks us apart. The woman giggles as she walks past Laney. Her face goes red as she steps a little closer to me. When we make it to our floor we get off and rush to our room.

“When this door opens, that dress comes off. Keep on the heels, though; they’re fucking sexy,” I tell her, sliding the key card. I kick the door behind me, turning around to see her working at lightning speed, taking off her clothes. I follow her lead stripping down to nothing. She turns around meeting my gaze, and her breathing hitches.

“You are so beautiful, your skin is so soft to touch,” I say brushing my fingertips smoothly across her collarbone, down to her stomach. She shies away, not expecting me to gentle. “Let’s take this to the champagne glass, you did win after all.”

I turn on the water and pour in some bubble bath. The glass comes to life as we step in. I let her take off the heels since I changed my mind where I wanted to begin. She sits down and the bubbles slowly cover her, only her tits are peeking out through them. Sliding in next to her, I go straight to work running my hands up and down her body. I lift her on top of me and her eyes pierce straight through me. I lick my lips before I kiss her, massaging her tongue with mine. I break the kiss by giving her bottom lip a slight bite before I let go.

“I’m gonna lift you, guide me in, baby.” She does as she’s told, stroking me once then guides me into her entrance. She slides down until my balls hit her ass, letting out an intense moan. She wants me, and she wants me inside her as deep as I can go as she bounces up and down hard. When she slides down, I lift up letting her take all of me. She claws at my back—I can feel the sting of each nail that grazes my sensitive skin. I look behind her and watch the mirror, my dick slick with her juices and the bubbles splashing around us. I watch as I slide in and out of her, and she throws her head back.

Watching me move in and out of her is so intense I will blow now if she doesn’t stop. I sit up getting more into it grabbing the small of her back rocking her into me harder. “Don’t stop moving, move faster... Harder,” I say on each thrust, breathless. She moves like a machine, her warm pussy tightening around my cock as I let go deep inside. She doesn’t stop moving, just rocks back and forth until I have nothing left to give.

“Oh my god, that was…intense,” she says, sitting with my dick still buried in her. She rests her head on my shoulder, looking at me.

“I love you,” I say as I lift her chin to kiss me. We take a shower, and it’s not long before round two, and three. Then we are dead to the world, falling into the deepest sleep we’ve had in months.

My body is sore when I wake up the next morning. It still isn’t fully recovered from falling down the stairs, but I will push it aside I always do. Lying next to me, Laney’s chest rises and falls, letting out a small gurgle. She is exhausted. We have been doing an awful lot lately. I should let her take it easy and let her at least sleep in. I look through the booklet, searching for things we can do today that won’t be so tiring. We could walk by the pond and feed the Koi fish, or try out archery. It’s cold out, though, so I don’t know what she’ll say to that. She seems to like the pool; even though it’s only thirty degrees out, the damn thing is heated so hot you wouldn’t know it. While I ponder our options she emerges from sleep, asking me what I’m doing.

“Just going through the booklet the hotel gave me with all the activities in it. Do you want to walk by the pond and feed the Koi fish? We can grab lunch and just take a stroll around the place,” I ask her, tossing the book on the bed next to her.

“That sounds perfect.” She smiles, climbing out of the bed. She grabs her clothes, tossing on a flattering pair of jeans, UGG boots, and a grey hoodie.

I pull out my own casual clothes. A pair of blue jeans, black V-neck shirt, black boots, and my leather jacket. I throw them on and we leave to get breakfast downstairs.

We finish breakfast and head off to explore the resort. It’s sunny, but the air is bitter. This is supposed to be a special trip for us to talk and learn more about each other. Here I am ruining it every time Jake’s words echo in my head. He wanted to tear us apart before, but now he knows. He knows she’s pregnant, and he’s not gonna take it very well. My chest tightens picturing the nightmare I had. He killed her, that was his plan all along. Suddenly I feel watched, and then I realize I forgot to take my meds today. This is not how I want the day to go. I look to Laney and she seems off—maybe she feels it too. I watch her eyes roll in the back of her head as she takes a hard fall by the pond before I can catch her. “Laney, wake up. What’s wrong, baby? Wake up.” I start shaking her, she doesn’t budge. I check to see if she’s breathing and she is, she just fainted. I call an ambulance, hoping they can get here faster than me driving her myself.  They arrive faster than I thought they would, and climbing in the back, all the bad memories flood in drowning me in a lake of fear.

“Is she okay? She’s pregnant also. Is the baby okay?” I ask everyone that passes me in the waiting room. A red-headed woman stops in front of me, holding a cup of coffee with a not sure look on her face.

“They are both stable currently, but something is wrong with the baby. We are running tests now to see if we can find the source to it. I’m sorry, Mr. Hardy, I wish I had better answers. She is asleep now, but you more than welcome to go on back to her room,” she says as she hands me the coffee, walking back to her desk.

When I see Laney attached to the same old machines and some new ones, I feel sick. I go to the bathroom in her room and vomit until there’s nothing left to cough up. Every time things start going good, something worse happens each time. I sit down next to her, reaching for her hand to hold in mine. Fear can control you if you let it, right now nothing could scare me more. The slow beeping tones echo around me; her face looks sickly with the loss of color. This can’t mean anything good. I wait until the doctor comes in, asking me to move so he can get a better look at her. He says she is extremely dehydrated, and will need to stay put for the night. The baby is fine for now, but she did start spotting, so he tells me he will keep a close eye on everything.

She’s been through so much shit as it is; losing this baby would end her and all the recovering she’s gone through. I keep my fingers crossed, and lie back in the chair to wait. I lie awake in the chair staring at the wall for ten hours before she wakes up. Leaping out of my chair, I’m at her side instantly.
