Jay was running along side his father and brother when he heard Emily’s voice.

Jay help
Michaela
and he skidded to a stop.

Jay what is wrong?  Keep running
his father ordered, and Jay shook his head then started running again.

What was that
he asked his wolf, and he could feel that his wolf was just as confused as he was for Emily should not have been able to send him messages.  Jay cleared his mind for he needed his wits about him if they were going to save his mate and niece.

They reached the outskirts of the house that the maid told them about, and Jay looked at the pl
ace with his green eyes hard

I feel Michaela
Mark said,
and she is scared.

Michaela
Jay said softly.

Uncle Jay, he hit Emily
she sobbed.  Jay’s wolf wanted to attack now but Jay was able to bring him
under control for they needed
cool heads if they wanted to get them out alive.

We
are
coming baby girl so be a
good
girl and hide until it is over
Stan told his granddaughter.

Okay
she said, and then the link
closed.

Stan looked at all the wolves standing next to him, and behind him.  Then he lifted his head and howled, the howl echoed across the ground to travel into the pack house.

The man inside froze, and then he laughed as he shifted were he stood.  His wolf e
yes looked over at the woman
lying
w
h
ere she had fallen after he hit her.  She was a great prize, and after t
his was over, he might just mark
her so that she would never be able to leave.  Her gift would be his, and
he
howled to accept the challenge thrown his way.

Emily stirred as she heard the howling, and she knew that Jay was here.

She opened her eyes slowly
for her body ached from hitting the wall although she did not think anyt
hing was broken.  She started
slowly
to
get to her feet for she wanted to be out of the way before the wolves came into the pack house.

Then she froze as another
vision came upon her.

She heard the pounding of paws as wolves came from the hallway to her left, and then the doors burst open. More wolves stood in the doorway, and she pushed herself
in
to the
corner as they growled and launched at each other.
The wolves were fighting closer to her as she made herself as small as possible in the corner.  One wolf looked at her quickly his green eyes piercing her soul with his love and concern before he turned his attention back to his opponent.  His grayish-brown fur shimmered as he moved quickly to avoid the bite fr
om the wolf that attacked him.
Emily kept her eyes on him as she watched him defeat his opponent and go for another.  She looked around at the wolves who were fighting, and she knew that some of the wolves lying on the ground bleeding where from their pack, and the tears slipped down her face.  She turned back to Jay, and then she saw him, the brown wolf who snuck behind Jay, and was about to attack.

“NO,” she screamed as she run forward.

He would have hit Jay but she
blocked his path and his claws tore into her skin.  Her eyes widened at the pain before she slumped to the ground.  She heard Jay’s howl of pain before she passed out.

Before she blacked out
, she sent one thing to him “I love you, Jay.”

Emily gasped as the pain hit her hard.   She looked around as she felt the tears began to drift down her face for the lost that they were about to suffer.  She nee
ded to find a way to intervene
before it was too late.
She heard the pounding as in her vision, and she looked to the left to see an open hallway.  She watched as the wolves poured out; they must be
the
backup, she thought to herself.  Emily looked around the room, and suddenly she spotted it, a bow.  She looked around quickly hoping that with the bow came
arrows
and she finally spotted them as the doors burst open.  She rushed quickly across the room ignoring the pain as she snatched up the bow and grabbed the arrows.  Her eyes narrowed for she was not going to let her pack members die because of one man’s greed.  She was able to distinguish her pack from Michaela’s
sadistic
grandfather
s’ pack
for his wolves were
uglier
and less groomed.  She lifted the first arrow as the wolves growled and she let it lose the minute they attacked.  She did not stop to think but lifted another arrow.  The wolves attacked each other but she continued firing the arrows taking out every wolf that she hit.  If she was going to die today, she was going to make sure to take
out
as many as these wolves with her as possible.

Jay watched as his mate fired arrow after arrow into the wolves coming from the hidden hallway.  For one moment, he froze and as if she knew he was looking at her, she turned to him.  He looked at her with love and concern, and she mirrored his emotions as his wolf howled that they found their mate.  He turned back to his opponent as his wolf wanted his mate, but his wolf understood that they needed to eliminate the threat first before they could hold their mate.  He dodged his opponent’s attack, and then attacked himself tearing his throat out.  He swung around as his next opponent came forward and growled as he attacked.  He had just finished with him when he heard it, her scream
.

“NO,” he heard and his wolf swung around to see her run in front him as the brown wolf launched at him.  His claws ripped into her skin and her eyes widened as she collapsed to the ground.  Jay threw back his head and howled as she started bleeding.

I love you Jay
he heard as she lay still.

He launched at
t
he brown wolf without thinking, and the wolf tossed him over his head.  He landed on his back, but he was quickly up again.  He bared his teeth as the brown wolf looked at him with crazy eyes, and he knew that he was the Alpha, the man who had his own son tortured and destroyed Emily’s parents for greed and power.

My mate
his wolf growled
in pain
.  With narrowed eyes, they watched the Alpha in front of them.  He would die by them for hurting their mate and taking their niece.  The brown wolf launched, but Jay was ready.  His wolf leaped at him, and with a swipe of his paw knocked him to the ground.  His wolf landed on his hunches then spun around to face him again.  The Alpha was not looki
ng so mighty now, and Jay
so
focused on the battle that he did not know that his pack had taken
out most of the rogue
wolves.  The pack doctor they brought with them was looking over the injured wolves, and was heading for Emily.  Mark had used his link to find Michaela, and he had already rushed upstairs to get her.  Jay was oblivious to all th
is for he was focused on the wolf
who destroyed so many lives because of his madness and hunger for power.

We will show him power
his wolf proclaimed.  The brown wolf growled at him crouching low before he launched at him again.  This time, Jay allowed him to pin him to the ground, and the wolf howled in triumphant before his eyes widened in disbelief.  Jay had opened his mouth, and as the Alpha had leaned down to bite him, he had closed his canines around his neck and bit down hard.  He tore his throat open while he dug
h
is claws from his paws into his fur as if to hold on to him digging them
in
as deep as his wolf coul
d go before pushing him off.  His
fur
matted with blood as Jay staggered to his feet, but he stood on his four legs looking down on the Alpha as his blood drained out of him.  He tried to come to his feet, but he kept collapsing causing him to bleed faster
, and then the wolf took a gasping breath before his eyes closed and his breathing stopped completely.

They all watched, as he died then one of his own pack members lifted a torch that was along o
ne wall
, and threw it on him.

“He deserves to die as a wolf, not as a human,” the man spat.  Stan looked at him for most of them head shifted back as they watched Jay and the Alpha fight.  Stan looked around the r
oom and saw that there were more
members of his pack standing
than the Shadow Pack members
.  He looked at all the bodies on the floor, and he raised his brows at the wolves that had arrows in them.

“We need to get her back to the pack house,” the doctor said.  Jay shifted into his human form as he ran over to the doctor and Emily.  He knelt down to his mate and lightly pushed her brown hair off her face.  She was so pale and he could tell that she
was
bleeding heavily.

“Jay we need to get going,” Stan said putting his hand on his son’s shoulder.  Jay nodded his head
,
but before he went to lift her, “Is it okay?”

The doctor heard the worry in his voice, he put a hand on his arm,
and “
We need to get her out of here.  It will have to be so we can get
her back to the pack house
.”

Jay lifted her up and he could feel the blood run down
his arms
for although the doctor bandaged her wounds tightly she
was
bleeding badly.

“Uncle Jay,” Michaela whimpered
from Mark’s arms.  Jay gave her a weak smile as they walked out of the pack house.

Stan looked around at the remaining members, “What you do is left to you.”  His words were spoken in a hard voice that they understood what he meant.  They nodded their head and Stan walked out of the pack house.  He shifted into wolf
form,
as did the other members
heading home.  Jay and the doctor t
ook one of the vehicles
in the yard, and Sta
n would make sure that it went
back.  Once he started running for home, he felt the shiver go through him that they fought one
of the fiercest packs and almost
all of his members were going home.  The odds of that happening were so unlikely when they started out that he felt as if they had been blessed.  The few that they did lose he made sure that their bodies were taken back with them.  He was not leaving any pack mem
ber on this land if he could
help it.

Chapter 14

Jay rushed into the pack house with the
doctor
behind him.  Cass, Stacy and Sasha came out of the living room as he rushed by with Emily in his arms.

“Oh, my baby,” Stacy cried as Sasha collapsed onto the carpet.  Jay could not worry about them now as he rushed
up the stairs to their room to lay her down on the
bed.  The doctor pushed him to the side as he started to get rid of her clothes and Jay felt his wolf growl at another
male
wolf touching his mate, but Jay calmed him down with the fact that he was helping her and he already had a mate.

“We need to find a way to stop the bleeding,” the doctor said.  “She probably is goi
ng to need a transfusion to replenish the
blood she has lost.”  Jay did not like the sound of that but he helped the doctor finish getting her undressed
.  He began
stitch
ing
her up where the claws had ripped through her and Jay knew that there would be scars but he did not care as long as she lived.

After he
finished stitching
up the wounds, he stepped back.  Emily’s breathing was ragged and her heart rate was very low that the doctor did not hold out hope but he told Jay, “We need to find out what
blood
type she is so we can find someone to give her a transfusion.”  Jay nodded his head as he sat next to her on the bed.  The doctor sighed and walked out of the room.

The rest of the pack had come back and he checked each of the members although most had healed already.

“How is Emily?” Stan asked as he sat next to Cass who was holding Michaela in her arms.

“She needs a transfusion,” the doctor said bluntly.  “We need to know what her blood type is so I can get the blood for the transfusion.”

“S
he is
type O positive,” Stacy said softly tears running down her face as Jacob pulled her
close.  Jacob had been there
but unfortunately he gotten held up outside.  By the time, he made
it
into the pack house the only thing he saw was his daughter throwing herself in front of Jay.

“Then I need to get to the hospital to
do a
cross-match to see what donor can give her blood,” he said getting up.
