Jerrod threw his covers off and laid back, head cradled in his hands, staring at the sunlight filtering onto the vaulted ceiling. After Macy had left, he thought he’d go right back to sleep. But instead his mind had kicked on, reminding him of the events of the prior evening. He could feel the echoes of those events in his body now, the deep satisfaction that came from having good sex.

Had it been good for Macy too? From the uncomfortable look on her face just now, he’d guess she was experiencing some amount of discomfort and maybe remorse. That was too bad. He’d intended her first time be all about fun and pleasure. That she’d experienced pleasure last night he had no doubt. The orgasm he’d given her with his fingers had rocked her whole body to the core.

But what regrets might filter through the mind of a young woman the next morning? He had no idea whatsoever. The morning-after thoughts of a nineteen-year-old female were completely uncharted territory for him.

He closed his eyes and tried to think about something other than Macy Wilson. But without anything better to focus his gaze on, his head immediately filled with erotic images. The perfect symmetry of her breasts, topped with milk-chocolate nipples. How those nipples had gone from flat to turgid the moment he had touched them with his lips. The lush, soft curls covering her mound, the way she had looked when he laid her thighs open. The clean, arousing perfume of her pink pussy.

His cock stirred. He jerked upright in the bed.

God! What the hell was he doing? She was little more than a child. He’d taken her innocence with barely a second thought.

He remembered looking down and seeing his cock penetrating her, red and thick, thrusting greedily into her tight, wet opening. He should be disgusted with himself. But instead he was more turned on than he’d ever been. There was something about Macy’s unspoiled sexuality, her complete trust in him, her artless, eager participation that made him want to take her again. Right now.

Here, in this bed where he’d—

And then he had a flash of insight. This had to be all about his marriage, and how the sex had gotten so stale those last few years. Arlene had put up with him a couple of times a month, and that was about the extent of it. Her joyless acquiescence had made him feel dead to the vital force of sex. Ashamed of his needs. No wonder it had felt so good to give Macy that orgasm, to have her welcome his cock between her legs, where the powerful pulse of life thrummed so passionately between them.

She had
wanted
him.

A sexy, young woman had wanted him again.

The realization filled him, gladdened him. He had the urge to let go with a whoop of joy. Instead, he grinned and rolled out of bed. He’d make breakfast for them and then they’d go do something fun together. Something a young woman would enjoy. In a day or two, when her soreness had waned, he’d make love to her again, slowly and gently, taking all the time in the world.

He pulled on his jeans and a clean t-shirt and went barefoot down the stairs, whistling under his breath. In the kitchen, Peter waited by the laundry room door, his ears pinned back in annoyance. Jerrod fed him, made a pot of coffee, and took eggs out of the fridge. As he opened a loaf of the fresh sour dough bread they’d bought the day before, he heard the back door open.

He turned, expecting to see Macy dressed for the day. Instead, she stood in the open doorway, dripping wet and still as naked as when she’d left his bedroom.

“Uh, hi,” he said, his eyes going to her face. Her expression was unreadable. He schooled his gaze to stay there, not to drift lower, where silver water drops glistened on her perfect breasts and belly.

“Hi. Is there coffee yet?” She strolled over and stood next to him at the counter, watching as the pot finished brewing. Then she filled a cup, added creamer, and—to his amazement—hopped up on to the kitchen island. His heart pounded double time as she got herself settled there, her breasts bouncing, her mocha colored skin a delicious contrast to the light birch wood of the butcher block countertop. She arranged her knees in a prim position and gave him a beaming smile.

He wanted nothing more than to go to her. But he waited, leaning back against the counter across from her. What was she up to?

“Are you feeling better after your soak?”

“Know what I’ve decided, Jerrod? I’ve decided I’m feeling great. Just fantastic.”

“Okay. Glad to hear it. Me too.” He gave her an encouraging grin. It seemed like she had something else to say.

She sipped her coffee and looked thoughtful.

“You know, when I got up this morning, I was feeling really bad, like I had done something wrong last night. I was thinking about what my dad would say if he knew.”

Jerrod winced. Chuck would come unglued.

“But then, after I spent some time in the hot tub, I realized that I was doing all this
thinking
and
worrying
, instead of just
feeling
. Like maybe I should be paying attention to how great my body feels this morning. Like how awesome it was when you made me come.”

“I’m glad you liked it.”

“Yeah. It was awesome, like I said.” She took another sip. “So, instead of being all in my head about what we did, I decided I’d just try to go by what my body tells me for a change.”

He grinned. “Sounds good. And what is your body telling you right this minute?”

She smiled back over the rim of her cup, making him wait while she drained it.

“My body says it’s about time I started listening to it.”

He laughed. She set the cup down.

“Come here.” Her voice was low and husky. She crooked her finger at him.

He hardened instantly as he sauntered toward her, feeling that silly grin plastered all over his face again. The island was tall enough that they ended up almost eye to eye. He stood waiting, his erection snugged up against her knees, arms hanging at his sides. Not completely sure of what she had in mind, he thought he’d let her take the lead for now, though God knows he was aching to touch her.

“What now, princess?”

“Um, you said last night that I wouldn’t be sore any more after a couple of days.”

He nodded. “By Tuesday I’d say it’ll all be a distant memory.”

“Well—what if I don’t want to wait until Tuesday to do it again?”

Her hands began to stroke up and down his arms. Her gray and gold eyes locked with his and her tongue flicked out, licking along her lower lip nervously. Her nipples stood erect in the cool morning air.

God, she was killing him.

“Are you sure, Macy?”

She nodded and gave him a shy smile. “Something that feels that awesome can’t really be so bad, right?”

“You…are…so…right.” Between each word he leaned forward and gave her a tiny kiss, on the chin, on her nose, and finally on her mouth. Without touching her body yet, he deepened the kiss, using only his lips and tongue to tell her just how much he longed to comply with her desires. She whimpered like a puppy, pulling him closer, her tongue pushing into his mouth. Their breath mingled, tasting of coffee and cream.

He lifted his hands and placed them on her thighs, feathering his fingers against her satiny skin. Without a word from him, she parted her knees a bit. When he glanced down, he was treated to an enticing glimpse of her sweet, clean pussy lips, peeping through dark curls. His cock bulged against the zipper of his jeans, eager for release.

He kissed his way down the column of her slender throat to the little hollow between her collar bones, prolonging his own agony, seeking to arouse her more with each touch of his mouth. She arched back, thrusting her small, firm breasts out, making it clear what she wanted. He obeyed, teasing in a lazy circle around one damp areola with his tongue before drawing the taut tip into his mouth.

She made a broken, breathless sound. He suckled a moment longer and then pulled away from her breast.

“Lay back, baby,” he murmured. She leaned back on her elbows, watching him from beneath heavy lids. He put his hands on her hips and scooted her forward just a little to the edge of the counter, laying her knees wide so that her delectable pussy opened for him like a dusky orchid. He savored the faint female essence that rose from her.

“You’re beautiful, Macy.”

“No one has ever told me that before. I—I didn’t know.”

“You’re perfect.” He dipped his mouth and touched his lips to her curls, then ran his tongue along her moist slit. Her hips rose.

“Oh, God.” She shuddered.

He held her open with his thumbs, exposing her clit, then licked again from her wet opening to the little button. Taking his time, enjoying her unique flavor, he laved every crease and fold of her pussy while she gasped and wriggled in helpless ecstasy.

Just as he covered her clit with his lips and began to suckle gently, the telephone on the kitchen desk jangled.

“Ignore it. The answering machine will get it.” He went back to work, finessing her luscious pussy. His cock was rigid, twitching, waiting its turn.

Two rings. Three rings. The greeting clicked on. Jerrod willed himself not to listen as his own voice spoke.

After the greeting there was a brief pause, and then a second man’s baritone said, “Jerrod? Jerrod? Yeah, this is Chuck.”

Macy let out a little squawk and sat up, clamping her legs together. They both turned to stare at the telephone as if the man on the other end could somehow see what they were doing.

“I was hoping I could talk with Macy today, see how she’s doin’. I tried her cellphone several times and I’m not getting an answer. Could you have her call me please? I miss my baby girl. I’m here at home. This is Sunday morning. Thanks, man.”

Chapter 7

The phone clicked off and the hum of the dial tone filled Jerrod’s kitchen. Macy sat unmoving, her cheeks on fire. Horrible shame washed through her, with nausea chasing right behind. Her father had practically walked in on them.

With Jerrod’s mouth in the worst possible place!

“Where’s my towel?” Covering herself up suddenly seemed like the most important thing right now.

Jerrod tried to put a comforting arm around her. She shoved him away.

“This isn’t right. I shouldn’t do this.
We
shouldn’t do this.” Tears threatened, making her voice shaky. “I don’t know why I thought this was okay.”

Jerrod stood mute, staring at her. At least he wasn’t trying to argue with her. In fact, he looked almost as miserable as she was feeling.

“I’m so sorry,” he finally said. “I take full responsibility for this.” He turned away for a moment and ran his hands through his hair. She saw his shoulders rise as he took a deep breath, then he turned to face her again. “Look, I can see you’re feeling really uncomfortable about us having se—making love.”

“Geez, you think?” Unshed tears seemed to clog her throat, making her words sound harsh and hysterical. “That was my father!”

Jerrod’s eyes were bleak. He spoke slowly, seeming to search for just the right words. “Okay. Look. This obviously isn’t working out. I can promise you this absolutely won’t happen again. You can feel free to stay here, Macy, in your own apartment, and I give you my word I will treat you as a valued client, and the daughter of a friend, and nothing more.”

He squared his shoulders and looked into her eyes, his face sober. There was no doubt in her mind that he meant every word. She could go back to staying in the cozy room above the garage, wait for her trial, and interact with him only as her attorney and host. That’s how it should have been in the first place, if only she hadn’t pushed herself on him.

He might be willing to take the responsibility for what had gone on between them, but Macy knew better. If she hadn’t made him touch her breasts last night at the music festival, he never would have made the first move on her.

And she was the one who’d walked in here naked this morning and opened her legs for him. And all that talk about feeling great and listening to her body? Sure, it had felt true in the moment, but now she could see she’d been fooling herself. She just wasn’t ready for a grown-up relationship and all that it entailed.

“I’m the one who’s sorry, Jerrod,” she whispered. She scooted off the island and headed for the door without looking back.

“What about breakfast?” he said as her hand touched the knob. The thought of food made her want to gag.

“I don’t eat breakfast, remember?” She spoke without turning. She glanced around her. Where had she left that damn towel?

“I—I thought we might go out later, do something fun.”

“No thanks. I think I’ll just watch TV or read. I brought a couple of books with me. I’ve been wanting to get to them.” She still couldn’t turn to face him.

“All right. For lunch I’ll—”

“I’ll just have some cheese and crackers in my room.”

He was quiet for maybe fifteen seconds. She waited.

“What about your dad? Are you going to call him back?”

How could she ever talk to her dad again? Wouldn’t she give away what she’d been doing when he called? Wouldn’t he guess from the guilt in her voice?

“Later.” She pulled the door open and grabbed her towel from where it lay on the doormat. Wrapping up quickly, she crossed the yard and went up the stairs.

She spent the day staring at the first few pages of one of the romance novels she’d brought along, unable to process more than the title and dedication. She half-watched an old spy movie on TV. Finally about three o’clock she managed to get some yogurt down. She wished she’d thought to ask Jerrod to borrow his laptop. An email to Leticia, baring her soul, was just about the only thing that would help unburden some of her guilt. She’d give anything to be able to talk things over with her best friend.

But in her heart, she knew exactly what Leticia would say.

Girl, if that fine-looking man wants to stick his tongue in your pussy, you’d be the worst kind of fool to say no.

Thinking about it, Macy found herself cracking a smile for the first time since this morning. Leticia came from a big family and had two older sisters. She’d lost her virginity at age sixteen, and was already taking birth control pills at the time. Leticia’s mom was a big believer in sex education. It wasn’t anything like the way things were at Macy’s house, between her and her dad. Even attending college classes hadn’t really changed things much at home for Macy. Everything she knew about sex—up until last night—she’d learned second hand from Leticia and her sisters.
