His brows knit together. “As your husband…”

She dropped her arms from his waist and propped them on her hips. She had no intention of sailing, especially without Morgan—she would miss him too much—but she refused to tell him. She would not stand for him commanding her life.

“I will take good care of you. I know how you feel, and I promise to never leave you or our children destitute. I intend to set aside funds in your name so you will always feel secure.”

“You would do that for me?” Her heart already filled to capacity overflowed with love for him.

“I would do whatever it takes to make you happy.”

“Then you will allow me to work in your office?”

He scowled, thinking. “I don’t know… Isn’t the money I will set aside enough?”

“I won’t be happy sitting home idle day after day until our child makes an appearance.”

“Are you?”

“Not yet, but I hope to be soon.”

“We should practice.”

“I agree.” She draped her arms around his waist again. “Can I work in the office?”

“Oh, why not. I’m sure you will make my life miserable until I relent.”

She smiled at him. “Maybe.”

“I love you, Mrs. Danvers.”

She would never tire of the sound of her new name. “I love you, Mr. Danvers.”

“Now, how about we start on that baby.” He enclosed her hand within his and tugged her along behind him.

“We can’t leave the guests.”

“I am sure they will understand.”

She dug in her heels. “I hope you don’t intend to treat my family in this manner when they hold a grand ball in our honor. My mother will already be devastated that I didn’t wait until I returned to England to marry so she could plan a lavish wedding.”

He gazed at her solemnly as he stroked her cheek with his fingers. “Is that what you wanted? A grand ceremony. Because I could have arranged it. I would have rearranged the stars to make this day perfect for you.”

“It was exactly the way I dreamed. And I didn’t want to wait one more day to become your wife.”

“My sentiments exactly, since we decided I couldn’t attack your luscious body until we were man and wife.”

His lips slid across hers, sucking, licking, and devouring. She was sure they were causing a scene, but she didn’t care. He always did that to her. Stole her senses and reason. And then his tongue roamed and caressed and wrapped around hers. The party disappeared.

He lifted his head, and his breath played upon her lips as his mouth hovered mere inches from hers. “How about we make that baby?”

“I am sure our guests won’t miss us.”

A word about the author...

Loreen Augeri has always wanted to write. As a child, her stories were about the horses she enjoyed riding. Later in life, after taking a course taught by Hannah Howell, she turned to writing historical romances. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, Hearts Through History, and New England Chapter.

Loreen lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two daughters. Graduating with degrees in sociology and computer science, she now works in her local library. She loves to read historical romances (the hundreds of books stored in her basement attest to that), walk, dance, and spend time at the beach in the summer.
