The elation coursing through my body quickens my pace. I can’t wait to tell Ollie the good news so we can start our family. Thinking of us together for the rest of our lives is a dream come true. My cheeks ache from the constant smile that spreads across my face, but it can’t be helped. Family is important to me, and over the past two months since we’ve known each other he’s shown me that it’s number one for him too.

Walking into his class that first day was so nerve-racking. Sitting around all those strangers and not knowing anyone had me pulling out my bitch card. Of all the things I’ve learned in life, the most important is confidence. It’s what gets you places. You can’t let them see you sweat or cower. If they smell fear they will attack, and I’ve been attacked more times than I want to count. So I took a deep breath, straightened my shoulders, and strutted in like I owned that bitch. But when his eyes met mine I almost stumbled. I’m used to good-looking guys. My brother’s best friend David is definite eye candy, but he has a problem keeping his dipstick in his pants. This was different, though. The dusting of grey hair around his temples gave him a distinguished look. Behind his glasses were the sexiest pair of dark blue eyes surrounded by thick lashes that matched his chestnut brown hair. They drew me in from the start, and when I looked into them I felt a shiver as my pulse picked up. It was love at first sight and I was lucky enough to experience it. When I saw the surprise in his eyes, I was bold and winked.

Maybe it was that one action that started our affair. Maybe it was his email asking me to meet him after class a few days later. I don’t know or care. All I know is that I’ve loved him from the first moment I walked into his class.

Continuing into the staff parking lot, I concentrate on my mission. I know he said we can only see each other outside of town, but tonight is different. I continue on my way, wanting to surprise him with the good news. Besides, it’s Halloween and I’m dressed up. Nobody will recognize me, and if they do, I’ll just act lost or drunk.

I wait until I’m out of sight and quickly punch in the code on the driver’s side door of his black Escalade. Thank God for my great memory and the fact that it’s already dark out. He should be coming out of his office soon. He had canceled our plans to grade papers. I’m hoping when he hears the news, grading papers will be the last thing on his mind. The buzzing under my skin continues while I crawl in back and wait.
