As I stand there, alone and waiting, I try to control my nerves: to remind myself that I’ve been in
way
scarier situations than this one.

I’ve conducted million-dollar business deals.

I’ve skydived and bungee jumped.

Hell, I’ve even swum with great white sharks.

But for some reason, standing right here and
waiting,
is even scarier.

It’s scary in case she doesn’t turn up; scary in case she changes her mind.

But just then, I hear the familiar chords of the organ striking up and I turn around, just in time to see the ornate wooden doors to the chapel open, and then there she is, being led down the aisle by her mom, towards me, a calm smile on her face. Boom. It’s like my heart stops beating and the whole room – no, scratch that, the whole
world
–descends into silence for a moment.

She looks beautiful. Stunning. Incredible.

She’s everything I’ve ever wanted, and soon, in just a few minutes time, she’ll be
mine
.

As I watch her walk towards me, I realize that all my nerves, all my worries have melted away to nothing.

Because as long as I have her here with me, everything will be okay.
