Chapter One

Carol Bell fanned her face with a movie magazine, tired of the heat in her rented, neat patio-style home. Who the hell had told her it never got hot in Colorado? After she kicked her husband out, she’d moved four times over less reason than that. Washington, California, Texas, and now Denver. If something didn’t change damn soon, she was heading for home in Florida. Being a freelance artist, she wasn’t nailed down to one place for long.

She rose and drained the last of the iced tea from her glass, and sauntered to the open front door. She had been awake since five o’clock, waiting to call the property manager to report a problem with the air conditioning system. No one answered the phone until eight. Her interest picked up when a red pickup pulled into her driveway. At last the freaking electrician had showed up. Someone else must have beaten to making the call.

She didn’t move to put a wrap around her hips. If he didn’t like her shorts, too bad.

Covering her ass was the last thing on her mind as she observed him. He wasn’t really tall, but built like an athlete with a lean waist and flat gut above his belt. His dark blond hair was cropped short. She sighed. He was probably ex-military. All she knew about those guys was how fast they got in your pants and how fast they disappeared afterward. She tapped the edge of the glass against her bottom teeth. At seventeen, she’d gone in the backseat of a rented car and given it all away to a fast-talking sailor.

From that point on, she’d chosen more carefully. She hadn’t had sex fewer times, but she’d been more particular. Until Gordon Bell came along. Good looking, sexy, and wild as a March hare. Too bad he had the disposition of a buck rabbit, always in some new chick’s bed and always saying he was sorry. Last fall, she’d had too much and divorced him after he spent the weekend with a seventeen-year-old cheerleader.

She tossed the magazine onto the couch and gave all her attention to the hot number coming up her sidewalk.

Her crotch clenched with a familiar demand to be filled. Damn, this guy had everything, perfectly defined pecs and arms that could hold her down. As he walked toward her, Carol visually stroked the super-looking thighs working under his faded jeans. They weren’t tight. They were relaxed just enough to heave up in the crotch with every step. Yeah, he had a pouch full of goodies. Watching the hips work under the tool belt he wore, she couldn’t help the movement of her hips. Damn, had it been that long? Hell no, she just loved sex.

“Hi.” He lifted his hand in greeting and smiled her way. “I’m Baron. From Baron’s electrical repair and installation shop.”

A real tight-ass name. She hoped he wasn’t. “How nice.” She stood aside to let him inside the house. “You’re right on time.”

“I don’t like to keep people waiting.” He smiled, and she could have sworn he had that Prince Charming glint in his eyes. “What can I do for you today, Ms. Bell?”

Getting her eyes off his hard, bunched ass took effort. “I’m Carol.” While he dropped the well-used canvas bag on the floor, she re-checked his hands. No wedding ring. “The air conditioning went out last night, and now the ceiling fans have quit.”

“Don’t like the heat, huh?” He laughed, and the male sound pinched her nipples into peaks against the sleeveless white silk top she wore. “I’ll get you cooled off as quickly as possible.”

“I’m counting on that.” She didn’t leave the room, dropping down into a wing chair to watch him. “You from around here, Baron?”

He got a chair from the kitchen and easily climbed onto it, fiddling with the ceiling fan for several minutes before looking down at her. “Yeah. I was born on a ranch a few miles from Loveland.”

A cowboy. Carol sat forward. “I was born outside Orlando.” She frowned lightly. “I couldn’t wait to leave the place.”

He rested his hands on his trim hips, looking up at the damn fan. “Could be just a blown fuse.” His gaze held hers for several seconds. It was then she saw the sexual interest in his dark blue eyes. “This could take awhile, Carol. Want to show me the basement?”

Hell yes. She wanted to show him anything he wanted to see. He handed her a small business card with his name on it. Small jobs only. She had a job for him, and it wouldn’t take long.

“It’s dark down there, so you’d better have a good flashlight.” Carol left her chair and led the way to the basement door.

She opened it wide and went down several steps before stopping. He hadn’t turned on the flashlight yet and was close enough to brush against her back. She turned to look up, and her face met the zipper of his jeans. His hand caught her jaw while she steadied herself. He was in no hurry to move her out of the way. “Let me light things up for you.” He stepped down to stand beside her. Maybe it was the heat, but she could smell testosterone and sagebrush cologne.

Okay, take it easy. He may not be horny just because you are.
“I’ll move out of the way.” She turned to lean against the wall. Could she help it if her tits jutted out on their own accord? Of course, he would have to work hard to avoid contact with her. Thank heavens the guy was no introverted shrinking violet. He faced her full-on, his warm pecs pressing against her boobs. Her belly muscles quivered, and her pussy tightened until she thought she would scream. He wasn’t stupid. The soft intake of his breath meant the chase was on.

She didn’t want to scare him off by tearing into him. His smile was tantalizing in the glow of the flashlight’s beam. He went down the steps and flipped several switches.

“No power.” He was talking business, and she wanted to hear moans and groans. “I’ll fool around here until I find the trigger.”

He had some way of talking. She liked it. “I’ll go back upstairs and light some candles.” She turned to call down to him as an afterthought. “I used the last of the ice. There’s a bottle of wine in the refrigerator that should still be cold.” She wanted to send a message of consent if he happened to be inclined to have sex. She unbuttoned her blouse and untied the knot she’d tied in the hem.. “That is, if you’re interested.”

Baron came to the stair landing and wiped his forehead. “I’m mighty interested, Carol.” He tilted his head to one side and gave her a sexy smile. “You wouldn’t happen to have any fuses in the house?”

Carol almost laughed. Her fuse was already lit. She’d better cool the flames for now. “I’ll check around. What do they look like?” While there was still daylight to see by, she hurried around lighting candles.

She heard his delicious laugh rising up from the dark basement. He was coming back up.

“They’re short and cylinder-shaped. I’ll call Sham. He can bring some over.” He stood near the kitchen door, looking around. “He’ll be here before you know it.” He opened his cell phone and punched in a number.

Carol listened absently while he talked, mentally squeezing every visible bulge on his body. No use wasting time gawking at him. Either he would or he wouldn’t. She went into the kitchen and got three glasses out of the dishwasher. She hadn’t thought about unloading it since the lights had gone out. She was glad to find the bottle of merlot still had a slight chill on it.

She gasped with surprise to find him standing right behind her when she closed the door and turned around. “It’s left over from my birthday party.” Now why had she felt it necessary to say that? “Grab those glasses, if you don’t mind.”

“Three?” He followed after her, carrying the wine glasses.

She sat down on the sofa, holding the bottle out toward him. “Thought maybe Sham might want a drink.”

“You know.” He took the wine and filled the glasses, and sat down beside her. “You’ll like Sham. He’s quite the gourmet cook and wine snob.”

Carol snorted in her glass. “Wait till he gets a taste of this.”

He sat down beside her, and damn if his leg didn’t feel like part of hers. Since he was so close, she looked him over. She loved his teasing smile as her greedy eyes took in every inch of his solid body. She didn’t mind when he leaned closer to trace her jaw with his finger. His long-lashed eyes had a familiar gleam, and they suggested he was interested in seeing how far she would go.. He put his glass on the table and dove into the meat of the subject.

“You know, you’re sexy, Carol.” He inhaled deeply. “Sexy as hell.”

She leaned back against the warm cushions. “So, what do you do in a situation like this?”

He tugged on her blouse, smiling at the tumble of her breasts as they spilled free. “Just like a couple of warm puppies.” The man was fast on his feet, clamping his mouth onto her nipples. The heat of his mouth sucking on her nipples started a flash-fire in her crotch. She drove her fingers deep in his hair and held him fast, moaning with desire to feel that surge of fire between her thighs. He pulled away to lap at the hard peaks of her nipples. When he spoke, his voice was soft like velvet on her screaming nerves. “Carol, I’ll bet you don’t wear panties.”

“I dress for the weather, Baron.” She placed her glass next to his, but instead of lounging back, she swung her leg over his hips and moved suggestively against his rigid shaft. “What’s under your denims?”

She looked at his face, taking in the great cut of his firm mouth and strong nose. The color of his dark-lashed eyes reminded her of cobalt blue, mysterious and filled with desire. Eager to get to his cock, she eased her weight up and unzipped his jeans. He lifted his hips while she dug inside his boxers and he groaned loud, just like she liked it.

He pulled her shorts off and slipped two fingers into her wet pussy. “Ride me, Carol, girl.” His cock jerked in her hand, the head lubed and gorgeous pink.

She wasn’t thinking of anything but quelling the lava flow between her legs, getting to the point of explosion and feeling the shockwaves of climax. Yes, yes, she had to have it. Her heart thundered in her chest at the first brush of his tip against her clit. Warmth flooded upwards through her pussy to circle around both breasts he squeezed hard in his callused hands. He was huge, stretching her as he bucked his hips.

As if she were a lightweight, he rolled her onto her back and pulled her legs up to his waist, thrusting like a wild bull until she screamed in a hellish orgasm. He came quickly, falling onto her, gasping for breath. He was heavy, but smelled good, and his weight made her want sex again. Carol lay still for several minutes after he got off her. He adjusted his cock in his shorts and zipped his jeans, smiling down at her.

“I’ll be ready again in a few minutes, babe.” He took her hand to help her sit up. “Sham should be here right about now.”

Hell. She’d forgotten Sham. “He’d have been in for a shock if he’d gotten here earlier.”

He shook his head and eyed her with a grin. “Sham wouldn’t have thought a thing about it. He’s seen this before.”

“You guys share women?” She headed for the bathroom.

Carol paused at the door, her curiosity spiking. He hadn’t answered her question, but the mystery guy would be there soon. Hopefully, he wasn’t against a good time. She liked Baron, and Sham would have to amuse himself.
