and after a busy morning they stopped for lunch in a cafe in the road they named

âMuch better than naming them After dead people no one can remember,' said Maldegard as they began their afternoon's work in

âDo you think we should make a rule that no name can be more than four words long?' Edna suggested.
âNo,' said Maldegard. âIn fact, part of me says that all place names should be at least five words
long, just for the fun of it and so we are not dead boring like humans.'
âWe are humans,' said Edna.
And I am quite boring, too
, she thought.
âI know, but we're sort of honorary witches,' said Maldegard. âI mean, if we need any magic done we've only got to ask.'
âI suppose so,' said Edna.
Maldegard kept making up sillier and sillier names â
and
â while Edna, who was far more timid, tended to choose names like
and
âLet's give the streets a rest and go out into the countryside,' said Maldegard.
âGood idea,' said Edna. âWe'll drive down
and see where it takes us.'
