‘Do you think we should make a rule that no name can be more than four words long?' Edna suggested.

‘No,' said Maldegard. ‘In fact, part of me says that all place names should be at least five words
long, just for the fun of it and so we are not dead boring like humans.'

‘We are humans,' said Edna.

‘I know, but we're sort of honorary witches,' said Maldegard. ‘I mean, if we need any magic done we've only got to ask.'

‘I suppose so,' said Edna.

Maldegard kept making up sillier and sillier names –

– while Edna, who was far more timid, tended to choose names like

‘Let's give the streets a rest and go out into the countryside,' said Maldegard.

‘Good idea,' said Edna. ‘We'll drive down
and see where it takes us.'
